Is this a paid political ad? The biased wordage would lead one to believe this.

A no vote is a vote for following proper procurement procedures.

"A no vote against this contract is a vote against trash collection in the City of Jackson. "

is this statement an example of gaslighting, passive aggressiveness, or just to be expected from narcissistic lack of self awareness?

I'm not the biggest fan of "foote", but he is correct, it is the Mayor's job to bring a proposal that can gain 4 votes

*a "NO" vote by any council member, to me, means they feel that the contract does not represent the best interest of their folks

By the way, did the parking of garbage trucks at Hawkins field ever get resolved? Anyone know?

The rats will be well fed said...

Like I posted earlier, he waited to the 11th hour to thus extort a contract out of the council or create an emergency - Marxist playbook 101.

Let the games begin.

Chuckles: I want to ask you all a question, straight out, flat out, and I want you to give me the honest answer. What do you think the chances are of a failed NOLA garbage company getting a contract if I beg and threaten enough and you vote against it EIGHT times?

City Council : Well Antar, that's difficult to say. We really don't...

Antar : Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you again about garbage, just... The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?

City Council: Not good.

[the background soundtrack music suddenly stops]

Antar : [he gulps, his mouth twitching] You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

City Council : I'd say more like one out of a million.

Antar : [long pause while he processes what he's heard] So you're telling me there's a chance. YEAH!

He wins!! Council can't afford not to agree with his proposal.

Never saw this coming. Bwa, ha, ha. Richard's knee-cappers paid a late night visit to the Chowke crib.

It's my way or the highway, peasants!

I bet my house it will be Richards.

Mayor has put a gun to the head of CC and made it appear to be their fault if trash starts to pile up. If not the lowest and best bid CC should reject contract and If contract is not clearly legal should reject . I bet the CC caves and the crooks win.

OH; Here go again!!!!!!!

Mayor going to send the ball back to Foote's court?

Will the NO and Detroit contingent be there?

The mayor has either been very shrewd in orchestrating this fiasco, or has serendipitously landed in a position where he can blame the city council if they do not rubber stamp his contract to Richards disposal. It is said that possession is 9/10's of the law. So if there is no other approved garbage vendor in place, and the city council does not approve the contract, we're right back where we started. It is unfortunate that the mayor's message re:RD being the best and cheapest bid, was not effectively challenged by Ashby Foote. Rather than focus on RD's qualifications (though their effectiveness is questionable based on their performance here; and most importantly, their hx and reviews in NOLA), a better argument is the apples to oranges comparison of costs. Additionally, their pledge to honor prices provided in the initial RFP,as a selling point, is negated by the waiver clause giving them the right to raise rates in the future. However, the mayor and his people understand that the majority of his constituents do not understand or care about the nuances. The mayor is counting on the success of his misinformation campaign. He's learned his lessons on manipulation well; but sadly has ignored the ones on effective leadership.

Keep fighting over trash while the Republicans take the city.

Council: If it's Richard's again, vote no deal, please. While in chamber, pass a resolution excoriating Jackson's little emperor for not putting out a new RFP 90 days ago.

There is no way that WM can hit the ground on the 1st, and Chowke knows this. Marxist extortion 101.

And......it's Richard's.

Councilpersons,

Do NOT vote in favor of Richard's!

I live in South Jackson. I have a 80 yard long gravel driveway. I'll be damned if I'll wrestle a humongous cart up and down this driveway twice a week. You heard from residents like me loud and clear - that's way you didn't approve the cart option. Thank you for that.

For the no-cart option, Richard's bid LOST. It lost!!!! It was NOT the winning bid! Residents DON'T WANT THE FUCKING CARTS and we DON'T want this mayor (or any mayor) doing whatever the hell he wants with our money and services with you rubber stamping it! HE IS NOT A DICTATOR!!!

If he gets away with this, it will happen over and over and over, and the only winner will be the mayor and his cronies. Everyone else loses. For God's sake, grow a pair! Step in front of the cameras and call him out on his bullshit, ALL OF YOU! You allow him to lie and lie and lie and you just sit there and go along with it. I can't figure out why??? Are you getting a piece of the action from Richards now too??

PLEASE stand up to this crook of a mayor!

It says a lot about the council and their incompetence and terrible messaging that this fool of a mayor is about to prevail over them.

Anonymous said...

Suffer the poor fools of Jackson under this mayor. I'm sure the council will be presented with the same contract they've rejected previously. Don't let the late blame game work. It's the mayor that is allowing this to occur.

Anonymous said...

Did anyone expect the outcome to be anything else? If there is anyone who thinks the mayor was going to do anything different than he did last time. It worked then and looks like it will work again. I don't know which is worse, a mayor that would stoop this low or a city council that is so weak they let him get away with it.

High noon would have been a more appropriate time for this showdown.

@ 5:05
The only elected republicans serving Jackson are Michael guest congress and Ashby Foote city council president NE Jackson and Delbert lives in ne Jackson but I don’t claim him… shonda Yates Fondren area is independent

I am impressed. The mayor and his cronies know how to manipulate the fools that worship them. Most politicians seem to manage this lately.

They tell a lie, such a no vote is a vote against garbage pick up" and they know the residents are too stupid to understand that it is a lie.

Respect. They play the game well.

5:59 You would only have to roll one and it's easy. I roll my 96 gallon I bought myself. I'm 76 and weigh 125 lbs. And, I roll it up hill. You are basing your opinion on a myth and lack of knowledge of the design that makes it easier to roll, not harder.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
