Disinformation of the Day

WARNING: The Lumumba Administration classifies this post as disinformation.

Jackson needs water operators, right? The Mayor claims Jackson has a hard time hiring water operators, right? Well, perhaps Jackson might have an easier time finding water operators if it actually advertised for the coveted Class A operators, right?  Check out the job postings for the two water treatment plants on the city website.  Notice anything missing?

Click on the images to enlarge.

There are a grand total of five postings for positions at Fewell and O.B. Curtis.  Lacking among the postings are guess what, class? Class A water operators even though there are a grand total of 46 job postings in Public Works.*

But wait, the news gets even better.  Notice anything about this feature found in every public works job posting?

You got it, ladies and germs.  Jackson has a residency requirement.  The city waived the requirement for some jobs in several years ago but it still applies to public works.  Article III, Section 2-166 states:

(a) Subject to the provisions of subsections (c) and (h) hereof, each and all new and prospective employees of the city shall maintain their domicile and principal place of residence within the City of Jackson.

(b) All persons entering upon employment with the city after the effective date of this section who do not maintain their domicile and principal place of residence within the city shall comply with the domicile and residency requirement before the expiration of the first six months from the time of their employment by the city, subject to those persons who are granted a waiver under subsection (d) who must establish residency within 12 months from the time of their employment by the city.....

(d) The director of personnel management may grant an individual waiver to a prospective employee residing outside of the city after a finding in writing that a sufficient number of qualified residents cannot be recruited for those full- or part-time position(s) requiring specialized expertise or extraordinary qualifications, certifications or training. If a waiver is granted, said employee shall be required to establish residency within the city within 12 months of employment in accordance with the provisions of this section. ....(KF: Seriously, who is going to go through those hoops?)

(i) Persons who applied and are employed for the position of certified police officer within the Jackson Police Department, persons who applied and are employed for the position of certified firefighter within the Jackson Fire Department and at-will positions are exempt from the residency requirement.

It might hurt some feelings but not many parents are going to move to Jackson and put their kids in Jackson public schools. Period.  That little fact alone discourages people from applying for the job.  The City Council should abolish the residency requirement or at least exempt Public Works from its coverage.

You simply can't make this up.  These are not serious people and that, my friends, is the bottom line.

The pay is awfully low too. $20.10 per hour only works out to about $40K per year. Anyone with the skills required for the job that agrees to work for that is desperate for some reason. Teachers, for all the hell-raising about how poorly they are paid, make more than that for only 9 months work.

This doesn't bode well for fixing the water system.

The requirement to reside in Jackson is a negative point on the job advertisement. I’m a contractor and I WILL NOT bid or perform work in the City of Jackson due to the “mandatory” minority participation requirements. I performed work on a project close to Baptist Medical Center in 2012 and thats enough for me. The city sent a list of potential job applicants and most of them had no qualifications, no education or they had felonies and numerous legal infractions. Hell, I can hire people like that all day and not have to worry about a discrimination lawsuit being filed when I fire them. And when I release them from employment based on why I released them, they fully understand and don't shout racist this and racist that. Why work the shit that Jackson emanates? Its not worth it. Everyone knows that the blue collar industry is not ripe with stellar people (and feom what I’ve seen lately the White collar field is getting worse by the day) but at least you get some people every once in a while that you can see a difference in and invest the time and money to make productive employees which in turn become productive citizens that are beneficial to society. I haven’t performed work in Jackson in 10 years and I will NOT perform work here again. I WILL NOT be any part what so ever if the Hinds County supervisors decide to construct a new jail facility on McDowell Road. Let those that want to pretend its “good money” go forth with it. I’ve learned my lessons the hard way. Thank you for allowing me to comment.

It would be interesting to see where the city posts its job openings - Monster? Indeed? Surely there are trade publications - many possibilities but is the city even trying to fill crucial positions?

There. Fixed it for you.

Airport tried to do that to some getting promoted to management roles. Didn’t fly. Later made living in the city of Jackson a requirement if taking a relocation package. A deal breaker for some. Then you had the Jackson first procurements. Same business in Pearl or Flowood (closer driving distance) but made employees use same businesses in the city of Jackson.

August 20, 2022 at 2:15 PM, you are correct, there's a lot of discrimination in Jackson, Mississippi. Only, it's black on white discrimination.

I'm typing this slowly, because you may have gone to Harvard and you are at an educational disadvantage. Try to focus, I believe you can do it.

Facts, are not capable of being racist, or discriminatory. I know there are a few big words here, but a dictionary will help you with them.

If you don't know what a dictionary is, check with your local library, if you can find one open in Jackson. The mayah isn't really into libraries, we can tell that by the neglect.

Once more, say it with me, facts are not capable of being racist, or discriminatory.

Here's words of wisdom that everyone should acknowledge, anyone that tells you the whole truth, is your friend. That's true, regardless of the person acting like a friend or not.

Like most of KF's readers, I have been following Chowke's jackassery since he became mayor. I used to believe that his lack of effective leadership was due to his incompetence, immaturity, and inexperience.

I now believe that the ongoing destruction of Jackson has all been planned by a mayor who is a racist, narcissist, Marxist, and extremely evil person.

Jackson, I am praying for y'all.

They have to live in Jackson, unless one is the head of the now-closed city pound, but still on the payroll, driving a city truck, living in Madison County, in the classic "no-show" job.

1:51, I’m 12:55 poster…what’s your grudge? Are you part of the problem? Drug use and legal problems have kept otherwise good people from being productive to society

3:47, bingo. It's his plan. Hire friends to fill pockets without requiring them to do work, let the system fail all around them while picking up awards and being seen from the outside a a progressive leader, have the Feds/state come in to clean up the mess, and be on to the next grift. He doesn't care about the city. He cares only about the grift. We recently had a president just like that, although he did allow people to make good policies.

I wish JPD and Jackson’s city employees would stop clogging up the line at the Crossgates Starbucks and Chik-Fil-A. Don’t you people in Jackson have your own Starbucks? Our drive-thru line is already long enough without the additional ugly JPD Ford Explorers.

Timw for the state legislature to take over. No water is serious business. The city government has shown their intent to do nothing.

Lil Choke might apply for Meter Maid, provided he has no pockets in his uniform to steal the change.

Say what you want about Kenneth Stokes, fact is he's really mellowed out in his old age and calls it like it is nowadays. He was the first to give Chowke the "Lyin' Lumumba" nametag, simply because he could. Probably a good thing the Good Dr. Omari snuck in under the residency requirements, you can bet she knows Chowke can't get rid of her as he has no replacement.

Well, there IS Virgi....

Now I understand why some have made such a big deal about Lumumba’s chief of staff living in Ridgeland. Some ideas are better in theory than in practice.

maybe you have heard of it..........only someone as pathetic as you can't deliver water to jackson

I live in a subdivision in Clinton. There's a JPD cop car parked here also.

5;25pm re-read paragraph (i) in the posting. It clearly states JPD exemptions for residence requirements.

Got this month’s Southern Living in the mail today. Funny they didn’t mention the water situation in the feature article on Jackson.

So, 2:15 p.m., acknowledging the multiple problems inherent in the job postings is, somehow, racist? Get current man. That shout quit working 15 years ago.

And get somebody to tell you what the three and four syllable words in this post mean.

Pardon The Poetry said...

There's also a JPD cop living in Twin Harbors out east of Madison. I realize the position is exempt from the residency requirement, but that gasoline bill eventually mounts up.

So, what this says is:

It's more important to hire somebody to point a fire hose than someone who can correct the town's water-woes.

That'sMisterDeplorableToYou said...

@7:12 Wiseowl. I'm not sure there's even a legal provision for a recall, but even if there was, such an effort would fail. His election was more about putting a thumb in the eye of THE MAN and less about efficient operation of the city. From what I hear from the few people I know that are still in Jackson, the majority of the citizenry adore him. They hate the water/sewer/crime/blight, but they either fail to make the connection between these conditions and the city government's incompetence, or they just would rather deal with the conditions than see these people put out of office.

Why should an operator at O.B. Curtis be required to live in Jackson if O.B. Curtis itself isn't even located in Jackson?

Lil Choke has made bait outta Jackson to attract State and Federal money he can convert to slush funds. It gives many a lot of pleasure to see him flustered by outside control of that money, however.

The young boy mayor is only fulfilling the wishes of his dad Edwin Taliafero. Remember, Bennie Thompson was part of this crap and wants to “distance” himself but history will not allow that. I’m surprised a police officer would even want to work in Jackson since Lumumba, Sr was tied to an organization that killed policemen.

Anonymous said...

That is incorrect. If you go to Google and type in Ridgeland and look a the line it goes all the way east to Spillway Road from County Line. OB Curtis is bordered by OB Curtis Dr, Brashear Creek to the east and County Line to the south.

I really don’t care in what municipality the OB Curtis plant is in. But I do know that USPS addresses are most definitely not reflective of municipal borders. There are Gluckstadt addresses with Madison zips and some with Canton zips. It’s based on service area. There’s also an airport in Rankin County that is currently owned by Jackson on land owned by the city of Jackson so part of city. There’s also a way to draw municipal boundaries that includes OB Curtis within the contiguous geographical map of the City of Jackson. It seems abundantly clear that the city is fucked though.

To The JPS Alumnus @1:36 PM said...

@1:36PM Yes, it has a Ridgeland "mailing" address because the only access to their gate is through the city of Ridgeland, thus the nearest and most logical post office is in Ridgeland.

But PHYSICALLY, the plant is in the CITY OF JACKSON.

Don't believe me? Look at the city limit map.

Anonymous said...

There are multiple JPD cruisers that reside in Rankin County. The fact that the ones in charge of keeping the peace in Jackson don't wish to live there tells you all you need to know. I would venture to say most of JPD lives outside of the JPD protection area. Very telling.

Got news for you kids, OBC sits on PRVWSD owned land. Sorry, but thanks for playing.

Has Melvin hired several of his felon pals to troll this site en masse?

Of course. Seems to be a microcosm of the problems in Jackson.

If all the loud-mouth idiots would shut up and actually perform work with same vigor they shout any voice of reason down, they'd improve their living conditions substantially.

Sad that such common sense is no longer common in Jacktown.

@7:47

your attempted JPS slight not withstanding... OB Curtis IS NOT within the city limits.... of any city.

It is, indeed in Madison County. The only part of Jackson within Madison County is around Tougaloo College.

BTW, please go back to your schooling district and slap them in the face for their failure to teach you reading comprehension. The address provided above says PHYSICAL ADDRESS as Ridgeland.

Ridgeland Fire responded to and investigated the recent fire

It matters not where OB Curtis is sitting, the damn thing ain't working properly. That's the problem, not its location.

The head idiot in charge, the mayah, doesn't have the ability to hire appropriate personal. His ego, by way of education, has blinded him to his own shortcomings.

The depth of his ignorance, is only exceeded by the height of his arrogance. His lack of humility has defeated him at every challenge.

He has surrounded himself with people that have the same afflictions. From their counsel only folly is produced. You doubt my summation? What is the state of Jackson, Mississippi?

Lumumba has lost Jackson.

Anonymous said...

Lumumba would win if the election were held today.
Even if the voters had to climb mounds of garbage, dead bodies, and portholes to reach the polling place.

And they would do it without a drop of clean water to drink.

When people accept that facts simply don't matter to the uneducated masses that vote, then perhaps we can begin a conversation that will even attempt to un-sink Jackson.

Doubtful, but we must accept that the majority still approve Chuckie and blame Tate for all of this before anything constructive can be discussed.

Anonymous said...

... but we must accept that the majority still approve Chuckie ...

Lumumba wants the same kind of bailout Ray Nagin got after Hurricane Katrina. I wonder where Nagin has been the last 10 years or so . . .

5:43 I suppose we will see how Chuckie does in the next election.

Since the majority factually disapproves, they must have a secret mayoral candidate they are actively grooming.

Time will tell.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
