Conspiracy theories and race-baiting about the Nolan Wells case raged on social media after the Wells family and attorney Benjamin Crump released the preliminary results of their autopsy earlier this week. Forensic scientist Dr. Amy Santoro provided a sober analysis of the preliminary autopsy and spoke some much-needed sense about the whole thing.

Is there a point to be made in making her sound like Minnie Mouse? I mean, really.
Odds are alcohol was involved and his underage friends knew that Alone would make them culpable for any injuries….so they clammed up and the state is forced to sort it out with no information. Now conspiracy theories will abound….which should drive clicks for this place
Remember the Delta State suicide? Same song different verse, NAACP And attorney barged in screaming racism. Facts don’t matter
Please explain how other underage drinkers could be "culpable for any injuries".
These idiots in the audience need to go watch a few episodes of Dr. G.
The Gofundme grift is up to $767,383. That will heal a lot of grief.
The widespread distrust in Mississippi’s medical examiner system largely stems from the legacy of Dr. Steven Hayne. Coveted right here on JJ. He was a discredited pathologist who handled the vast majority of the state's criminal autopsies for over two decades—and his frequent collaborator, forensic dentist Dr. Michael West.
Hayne was never board-certified in forensic pathology. He took the board examination once in the 1980s, failed or walked out, and never passed it, despite testifying for years in court as a certified expert.
The The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist: A True Story of Injustice in the American South is a good background book to understand "justice" in Mississippi.
does anyone here remember tawana brawley?
Inconclusive is the same as conclusively NOT murder.
4:10, None of Nolan’s friends “clammed up.”
The investigating authorities (Jackson County Sheriff’s Dept.) interviewed all of them within the first couple of days.
Meanwhile, dozens of young black men are murdered every week but the race hustlers and media enablers can't be bothered
I don’t suppose Sharpton and Crump could make the 3-hour drive.north to grandstand about the 50 or so blacks murdered by blacks in Jackson this year, could they? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Did I miss it, or did anyone of them exclaim, “Oh, mah Gaw-wid”?
I do. So does Al Sharpton, likely.
The same person who was a young alderman, supposed to be an up-and-coming politico? I remember quite some time back as well a high school student in the Kokomo community of Marion County who also hanged himself with his own belt from a tree in his mother’s front yard, for which tragedy a race hustle never quite got off the ground.
Speaking of the Delta State suicide (by hanging), as soon as Crump got the results of the second autopsy (that he paid for), he was never heard from at the college again. It was murder until it wasn't.
If you are 18 and there is alcohol around and someone gets injured - the cops arrest and relate all injuries to alcohol and all those near it. Car wreck? Boating accident? Underage drinker? At fault. So the underage drinkers left to avoid the possibility of being held culpable in his injuries or death. They got lawyers and kept quiet. Now conspiracies will run the gambit.
I feel sure law enforcement investigators have looked into this possibility, but what if Nolan Wells caught a ride back from Horn Island on a different boat, and he somehow fell out of that boat?
I understand his mother has filed to open probate in Jackson County Chancery Court. Would probate be needed for the GoFundMe money, or is it setting up for a wrongful death civil suit? An accident doesn’t mean negligence, or does it?
Everyone with a brain down here knows what happened. It was a tragic accident of a good young man. The circumstances leading up to that may never be known. Last year about this time another young man died on Horn Island after diving off the back of a boat. I can just imagine the storyline had Nolan done that. I imagine it would be something along the lines of someone must have pushed him. The other young man didn't make the news, of course and you can probably guess why. Also, the area where he was found is extremely dangerous. The western tip of the island has an extremely strong current. The NW part of the island has spot where it goes from a few inches deep to appr 18' deep in matter of 2-3' which is the area they said he was found. I know that doesn't mean that's where drowned, but that spot is beyond dangerous.
9:12/9:33: I'm going to clear up some of your flawed legal analysis:
1. There is no law imposing civil strict liability whenever alcohol is involved, and no such law imposing criminal culpability.
2. All of Nolan's friends that were with him that day were interviewed by law enforcement within the first two days.
3. Mississippi's Wrongful Death Act does not require a personal representative of an estate to file suit.
4. Any funds raised after Nolan's death did not belong to Nolan at the time of his death, so they would not be assets belonging to his estate.
5. You are correct that an estate has been opened for Nolan, but he had no will, so there is nothing to "probate."
But don't feel bad, you aren't the only incompetent attorney circling this case.
I notice the estate attorney is Gary Bufkin.
His office is a long way from Pascagoula, but he represented former Hinds County D.A. Jody Owens in his public corruption case, so I guess Crump figured he could trust him.
"Hayne was never board-certified in forensic pathology. He took the board examination once in the 1980s, failed or walked out, and never passed it, despite testifying for years in court as a certified expert."
Isn't that "perjury"?
Good job, 11:32
These two attorneys are nothing but race batters and money chasers. These parents should have known better! Let the truth come out and watch how fast these attorneys run, just like crump did in Cleveland MS
Why is an estate needed in this situation? Is the answer as simple as Nolan Wells, despite being only 18 years old, had assets or debts in his name only, or is there more to it?
11:13, I suspect it’s because Crump doesn’t know any better.
