Here are the "C" ratings for Jackson metro area restaurants issued since April 1, 2026. The Mississippi Department of Health inspects and grades each restaurant. Waffle House (Flowood, Riverview Dr.) (6/19/2026): Food not separated, contact surface area not cleaned and sanitized, No certified manager. Received a "B" on follow-up inspection.
Dairy Queen (Ridgeland) (5/18/2026): no certified manager, permit/inspection not posted, food contact surface area not cleaned and sanitized, plumbing did not have proper back flow devices, sewage waste not properly disposed of (NASTY!) Earned "B" on follow-up inspection.
Zea's (Ridgeland) (6/25/2026): Plumbing did not have proper back flow device. food not separated and protected. Earned "B" on follow-up inspection.
Shaggy's on the Rez (Rez) (6/26/2026): food not separated, food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized. No follow-up inspection has yet occurred.
PJ's Coffee (Ridgeland) (6/17/2026): no certified manager, adequate hand washing facility supplies not accessible, permit and last inspection not posted. Earned "B" on follow-up inspection.
Beagle Eagle (Madison) (7/14/2026): food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, food not separated and protected, did not follow proper cold holding procedures, improper date marking and disposition. permit last inspection not posted.
El Sombrero (Gluckstadt) (6/8/2026):Adequate Hand Washing Facilities Supplied Accessible, food in good safe condition unadulterated, proper cold holding temperature, toxic substance identify properly stored used, permit/last inspection not posted. Earned a "B" on follow-up inspection
Tropical Smoothie (Madison) (6/8/2026): food surface contact not cleaned and sanitized, sewage waste water not properly disposed (NASTY!) Earned "B" on follow-up inspection.

Does a "B" mean Bribed? I have seen nasty circumstances at National Chain restaurants featuring filthy tables and floors with flies. It is not a big leap to presume poor practices in their kitchens.
Not the Beagle Eagle! I think the Health Inspector service has been lacking for so being understaffed, that the visits are few and far between and no one is worried about them stopping by. Back in my day you stayed on your toes and now. now no one bothers to keep certifications up, post ratings or wipe off counters.
I'm pretty sure the only time a Waffle House gets graded an "A" is the day before it opens.
