Pearl Issues Statement on Fatal Chase

The Pearl Police Department issued the following statement.

Pearl Police have arrested Ryan Irwin, 29 of Brandon, after a pursuit Sunday night.   Irwin is charged with felony fleeing resulting in death. He is being held without bond in the Rankin County Detention.

A Pearl Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2009 Silver Infiniti near the intersection of Bierdeman Rd. and U.S. Hwy 80 at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening.  The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed westbound on Hwy. 80 and turned north on Hwy. 468/Flowood Drive.  The Pearl officer continued pursuit and Flowood Police Department was notified and joined the pursuit in their city limits.

Irwin continued eastbound on Flowood Dr., crossing over Airport Rd.  Irwin pulled the Infiniti into the parking lot behind the Academy Sports store on Flowood Dr.  The Pearl officer pulled in where the vehicle had stopped, exited his patrol car and held Irwin at gunpoint ordering him to exit the vehicle. Irwin did not comply, backed his vehicle up and sped back out onto Flowood Dr. Flowood officers continued the pursuit a short distance when Irwin struck a motorcycle at the intersection of Old Fannin Rd. and Flowood Dr.  The driver of the motorcycle was seriously injured and transported to Merit Health Hospital in Flowood where he died. Rankin County Coroner David Ruth will release the victim’s identity.

After he was taken into custody, officers found Irwin was driving with a suspended license, no insurance and has felony convictions at the federal and state levels.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and reconstruction of the accident.

Kingfish note: A federal grand jury indicted Ryan Storm Irwin for unlawful transport of firearms in 2019.  He pleaded guilty.  U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves sentenced him to serve one year in prison and three years of probation but gave him credit for time served.  He committed drug and alcohol use violations of his probations.  Judge Reeves fined him $1,000 for the probation violations in June 2021.

Irwin had a 2014 conviction for felony larceny and 2019 possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

I already knew the race of the suspect by the amount of time it took to release his photo. Mississippi gonna always Mississippi.

I believe he might have finally achieved his goal of making himself permanently unemployable. Looks like it has been an ongoing effort for quite some time.

Judge Reeves owns this one.

Ryan "Storm" Irwin if you don't know this clown - a lifetime of criminal activity in Rankin County - I'm surprised he was out of prison long enough this time to run from the cops. Also a reputed Simon City Royal member. Now he gets to go spend the rest of his pathetic life with his "fam".

Anyone know of a person with facial tattoos who isn't a criminal/felon? Me neither.

Good lord.
If there's ever been a person that you could look at and safely assume they are a useless drain on society, he might be the best example I've seen.

Maybe the jerge should be held accountable? Hmmmm?

Reeves must have been too busy encouraging infanticide and bleating BLM to do his job. A left wing activist Judge. So much for "gun laws," eh, for the Lefty Democratic appointee to actually enforce gun laws with the full sentence allowed.

Yet, they'll bleat about more gun laws being needed.

The motorcyclist would be alive if Reeves had done his job. Hell, Reeves even gave him a blessing for violations. ATF must be sick.

And guess who's appointed by Biden to the Fed Sentencing Commission!?

Should be automatically be charged with a life sentence. No possibility of parole.

How many more people do the Pearl PD have to kill before the implement a no chase policy,?

Anonymous said...

They should have put a bullet in his f*cked up head when they had the chance.

Cops do their jobs and judges turn them loose! The criminal justice system in Mississippi is nothing but a moneymaker. Drug courts, ankle bracelets, house arrest, blah, blah, blah. Zero accountability for the thugs and the taxpayers foot the bill as we do with all social experiments.

Looks like a law abiding citizen to me. Is this guy really a SCR/white donut? I haven’t seen any of them around since before 2000.

August 15, 2022 at 12:54 PM is in the running for the internet's dumb assity award asking such a total dumb ass question as ...."How many more people do the Pearl PD have to kill before the implement a no chase policy,?"....
You twisted fool, the police was trying to stop the guy who caused the fatality, not pushing him.

If only someone had warned us...
Oh yeah, no one was taking Mr. Stokes seriously at the time.

Anonymous said...

Holding him at gunpoint of Academy parking lot? The cop who did not shoot out his tires when he first took off again has some serious job search to engage in!

Anonymous said...

Stokes would let the criminals run free so long as he gets a check no different that Ludumba.

Maybe we could actually leave all the rhetoric aside and have an actual adult conversation about pursuit policies? Maybe use actual data to make informed decisions? I know that's not the Mississippi way, but maybe we could try it just this once? Just a thought.

Anonymous said...

1:49...Quit watching tv cop shows and think that's real world. Shooting out tires of a moving vehicle is not even close to being as easy as Hollywood makes it out to be. What happens to the bullet when the shooter misses the tire? The bullet don't vanish into thin air. Firing off rounds in a crowded parking lot at a moving target is not something any responsible officer is going to do. If the shooter were to hit the tire, do you think that the tire will stop the bullet from going all the way thru and ricocheting off of the concrete and endangering even more innocent people?

For all of you who believe police should pursue a fleeing vehicle with no restrictions I simply ask, if the individual killed as a result of this pursuit was your husband, wife, son, daughter, etc. and you believe that apprehending this POS was worth their live, then I don’t know what to say.
Police officers are trained to know when the risk to the public outweigh the immediate apprehension of a fleeing driver. We can’t expect this meth head to make good decisions, we should expect a police to.

Anonymous said...

There was NO CHASE/NO PURSUIT! The perp had been stopped and then put it in reverse into an intersection and struck the motorcycle.

Anonymous said...

The more I hear people say cops should not chase suspects I’m thinking the motor vehicle may well become the next safe haven. Chase a bad guy on foot but if he makes it to the car it’s “all units back off. Let them go.” Speaking just for myself, that seems wrong if you want less crime and good law enforcement.

Anonymous said...

I see your point and I don't disagree, 3:58.

But answer the inverse too.

If the criminal fleeing just killed your husband, wide, son, daughter would you be ok with the cops not pursuing?

Anonymous said...

We are gradually moving towards anarchy. A “no chase” policy will only expedite that process. However, at the same time I am very sorry that someone lost a family member.

Anonymous said...

The innocent man killed on his motorcycle is a Bandido.
The punk that killed him will have to atone.

Anonymous said...

So basically an innocent man died because of a suspended license and no insurance.

Not worth it.

Anonymous said...

1:49 please gain a better grasp of reality

Anonymous said...

@4:23 excellent point. I am not saying never pursue, but the officers must way the risk in continuing a pursuit. In your hypothetical situation if the identity of the person being pursued is known that individual can be apprehended later at a time when the risk to other innocent people is lessened. Having spent 34 years in law enforcement I realize the difficult decisions officers have to make. Training and good supervision is needed to hopefully make the best decisions during these situations.

Anonymous said...

7:30: No. A man on a motorcycle died because a criminal ran him over in the process of felony fleeing the police in a reckless and dangerous manner.

Anonymous said...

If @6:09 is correct, this just got a whole lot more interesting for 1) the perp, and 2) the crowd that was ready to canonize the victim. It’s rare to get such a good result out of one of these wrecks, but I guess it does happen sometimes!

Anonymous said...

"The innocent man killed on his motorcycle is a Bandido."

If that's true, karma is a hell of a thing.

3:40 - LEO shooting out a tire with a Glock 9 at a distance of 12 feet is pretty damned simple. If had bumped a LEO with his fender, you bet your ass his vehicle would have been shot at.

Anonymous said...

Again, he WAS NOT BEING PURSUED when he hit the motorcycle. The pursuit had already ended. After all vehicles had stopped, he put it in reverse and hit the motorcycle in the nearby intersection, but the police vehicles were parked.

Anonymous said...

August 15, 2022 at 4:03 PM - You are SO full of shit ! ! You just showed your ignorance. If you look at the crash scene pictures the rear of the car doesnt have any damage. The front of it pretty well torn up.

Care to explain how you came to your decision to post your comment??

Anonymous said...

I'm against all high-speed pursuits for property crimes. In cases where someone is being pursued for a violent crime, I'm OK with it as long as the safety of the persuee is not a consideration. So many times the cops chase someone until they crash, many times into an innocent person, or their car quits or they run out of gas. Often you see these chases where a brand new police cruiser with a hopped up engine can't seem to keep up with Japanese sedan or a 30 year old Oldsmobile. If a chase can't be ended quickly while protecting the innocent public without regard as to what happens to the perp, then don't do them.

@6:57
There is no such thing as a “glock 9” there is a Glock 19 compact 9mm and the Glock 17 is the common 9mm service weapon of law enforcement.

Anonymous said...

@9:48 get your technical glock panties out of a bunch. Anyone with common sense knows that a glock 9 is a 9mm, a glock 40 is a .40, and a glock 45 is a .45......who cares if we say 17,19, 23, 43, etc. THe point he was making is that in his opinion, a 9mm would have done the trick.

On your end, fantastic job of making an argument about proper nomenclature for the particular musket or revlover. NERD

Anonymous said...

@10:29

Can’t tell if trolling or a buffoon.
Glock 40 is chambered in 10mm, a superior round to .40SW.

Here’s a tip: Refrain from trying to get technical about a subject if you are ignorant.

People who say Glock 9 usually can’t distinguish a Hi-point C9 from a Taurus Millennium and Smith & Wesson M&P.
Hint: All three are utter trash.

Anonymous said...

How was he was able to exit the parking lot if we was being held at gunpoint?

Anonymous said...

If the perpetrator had already been stopped and there were multiple law enforcement vehicles present, why wasn’t he blocked in so he couldn’t take off? I could be missing something or some of the previous posters may not have their facts straight.

@ "Anyone with common sense knows that a glock 9 is a 9mm, a glock 40 is a .40, and a glock 45 is a .45"

Except a Glock 40 is a 10mm and a Glock 45 is a 9mm. Don't ask me, I didn't name them.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
