Quid pro quo.
Translated: Chucky Labamba has gone back to Richards Dispsal to ask for more Dollu$$ to buy some additional board votes for them
recent palm greasing-
Imagine if they met this many times to fix the crime or the water issues.
Ha ha, How silly of me!
Good thing they have no other city services that need to be discussed and solved.
The people of Jackson want efficient service, the mayor wants black hands on all contracts, the city council is in the middle hoping you can have both but knowing this may not be the contract to do it. The mayor will ultimately win because he will outlast all of them. The death spiral continues.
The fact Lumumba is so adamant about this should raise a serious red flag. Like others have echoed, imagine if they addressed the crime and killing sprees going on in the City of Jackson this many times. He doesn't care about the people, on getting his $$$. If he does pass this and kicks WM to the curb, and it fails(and it most likely will turn into a CF), I hope WM tells him to pound sand when he comes back begging for their services.
11:03 for the win !!
Remember, you do what is good for you, not what is good for the citizens. Politicians Credo.
IF that vote ends in Richards getting the contract and the board isn't investigated by SHAD himself...................
The Northside Sun perfectly summarized the mayor's approach to government- "If it's not broke, breake it."
Second bite at the apple? WTF? What kind of hand soap does Chowke use to get that grease off??
I thought once they voted down they have to get new proposals before reconsider?
If you had a City Manager, you wouldn't need this level of involvement to get a damn garbage contract approved. But, if it's because all of the council members are positioning for their taste, then it's not a vote -- it's a negotiation.
How long did it take Chowke's sis' to drive to/from New Orlean$ yesterday to pick up an envelope?
According to the reports the Council has not received a copy of the contract and the names of the minority subcontractors are not being discussed. why the Hell are they voting on a contract that they have never seen?
So no matter how much the citizens like our current disposal company, the crook will find a way to eliminate them. $$$$follow the money
That must be some kickback the mayor is gonna get if he is fighting this hard for that contract
Can someone please remind me why we are fixing something that isn’t broken? Waste Management is about the only thing working in Jackson
Who are the minority contractors? Is the EBO plan not public info.
Waste Management is the only Jackson city service that is functional. My business has not received a water bill for two years, my residence has not received one in months. There is no traffic enforcement. All fire hydrants are not tested and some don't work. Murder capitol of the USA. Ride down Ellis Avenue. The zoo? Hinds Board of supervisors? I could continue on and on, but to me the real question is why the folks in Belhaven think Virgi is representing them? I predict if Waste Management is ousted, the downward spiral of garbage collection will begin within a few months.
I have a friend who asked me for my support if he ran for the City Council. I told him I liked him too much to support him for a fate like that.
Follow the money. There has to be some reason for the mayor to keep pursuing approval of the Richards contract ---other than what is in the best interest of the city's residents. If the company in question had stellar or even generally satisfactory reviews by its current clients, maybe. However, it doesn't. Anyone can do a google search and see the issues in Louisiana. I would bet money that Richards is/will be subcontracting with the local companies previously rejected by the Council. And ... at least 1 additional council person will vote yea, to break the tie so that Richards will get the contract. This type of pandering is nothing new. However, its being done in plain sight. At least in the past, there has been some effort to appear fair. Shame on the mayor and those who support this. Do better!
Has anyone ever answered the question about additional garbage cans? I put out at least 3-4 extra cans a week of limbs and leaves. WM picks them up every time. Is the new vendor going to limit us to ONE can per pick-up?
which council person sold out?
Lumumba is a idiot
When Richard's fails, Chowke will blame the failure on gun shows and white flight. You read it here first.
The good news is that the trash that will accumulate in your yard can be used to fill potholes.
FBI is watching
Rematch? You think it’s a sport?
To read the contract you will have to vote yes first.
The "CHUMP IN CHARGE" is taking all he can.

So more of the same?
12:44 it appears that she must have gotten stuck in a traffic tieup on the bridge south of Manchec, and couldn't make it back in time before the 5:30 meeting - thus the People's Republic didn't have the ummph to get the necessary fourth 'switch'. And Virgie didn't receive her envelope to keep her stuck as she swung back and forth between those narrow streets in her "historic" districts that Richard rode over with her in order to get her to support this garbage.
@5:21 PM
FBI isn’t watching. Carry on...
Amazing that Virgi and Richard’s viewed the Belhaven area but what about her midcity representation with many many open dumping sites on city streets. Is she not concerned about these areas?
If the impetuous imp of a boy Mayor had not found a racially appropriate garbage man in NOLA, would he have resorted to a search in Baltimore, Detroit, Mogidishu?
A fixation on his father's "NEW Africa" agenda succeeded in providing third world murders, streets, water, sewer and decrepit City owned real estate. Will piles of uncollected garbage precede armed revolt?
The M Bar’s expansion isn’t going to pay for itself
