Governor Tate Reeves signed the medical marijuana bill today. The Governor announced on Facebook:
The “medical marijuana bill” has consumed an enormous amount of space on the front pages of the legacy media outlets across Mississippi over the last 3+ years. There is no doubt that there are individuals in our state who could do significantly better if they had access to medically prescribed doses of cannabis. There are also those who really want a recreational marijuana program that could lead to more people smoking and less people working, with all of the societal and family ills that that brings. My goal from Day 1 (post Supreme Court ruling) has been to allow for the former and do everything in my power to minimize and mitigate - though knowing it is impossible to eliminate - the likelihood of the latter. After all, the overwhelming majority voted for a medical marijuana program in the 2019 election and I committed to supporting the will of the people.I have made it clear that the bill on my desk is not the one that I would have written. But it is a fact that the legislators who wrote the final version of the bill (the 45th or 46th draft) made significant improvements to get us towards accomplishing the ultimate goal. Just a small sampling of the improvements we fought to include in the final version of the bill:1. Reduces the total amount that any one individual can receive to 3 oz. per month. This one change will reduce the total amount by 40% from the original version (I asked for 50%). Said differently, there will be hundreds of millions of fewer joints on the streets because of this improvement.2. The medical professional can only prescribe within the scope of his/her practice. And they have to have a relationship with the patient. And it requires an in-person visit by the patient to the medical professional.3. Only an MD or DO can prescribe for kids under 18 and only with the consent of a parent/legal guardian.4. An MD or DO must prescribe for young adults between the ages of 18-25.5. The MSDH will promulgate rules regarding packaging and advertising, and I have confidence they will do so in a way that limits the impact on our young people.6. Prohibits any incentives for the Industry from the Mississippi Development Authority.7. Protects our churches and schools from having a marijuana dispensary within fewer than 1,000 feet of their location.Because of these improvements to the program (as well as many other small ones that I am not mentioning), SB2095 will become law. I thank all of the legislators for their efforts on these improvements and all of their hard work. I am most grateful to all of you: Mississippians who made your voice heard. Now, hopefully, we can put this issue behind us and move on to other pressing matters facing our state.
The Mississippi State Department of Health will regulate the new industry. Registration for eligible businesses will begin in 120-150 days. The Department of Revenue will issue licenses to dispensaries within 150-180 days.

Don't bogart that joint.
Doesn’t matter if it’s legal or not, smokers gonna smoke. You think it matters just because a slaveowner says so?
Translation: “The earth grows marijuana.”
Dusting off my Afroman CD!
How many legislators are invested in medical marijuana?
Guv Said, "After all, the overwhelming majority voted for a medical marijuana program in the 2019 election, and I committed to supporting the will of the people."
Sadly, the coward didn't assign the same value to the 'overwhelming majority of voters' who voted to retain the true state flag.
.......
Along comes Kingfish to say, "OK, no posts on the flag", when this post is not about a flag, rather it's about clearly pointing out the two faces of Governor Reeves. In the flag case, he signed the legislation knowing his veto would have been over-ridden. In the marijuana case, he did the same thing after claiming he would uphold the will of the people.
At the end of the day, it really matters not what Tate Reeves thinks about flags and marijuana - He wasted quite a few key-strokes.
The leg should put initiative process back and the voters should just pass recreational less than 2 oz. Let’s be done with this and move on
Tate cut the money by 40% and is bragging about it.
Think weed growers who have loads of cash can find a candidate to replace Tate?
5:54 there’s hundreds of pot start-ups nationwide that you can get involved with. Don’t feel left out. Several are publicly traded. Quit making this about your beef with one guy.
Attn 5:54 most of the legislator s I know can’t afford to pay for their own meals, and certainly can’t (or won’t) pay for their own drinks.
Can’t wait to smoke one on the steps of Madison city hall. Might put on a Joel mask and take a selfie.
How can Tate talk out of so many sides of his mouth?
Interesting that Tate waited until the very last minute to sign, even though it would have gone into law on Thursday if he didn't. The only thing he did was play politics to the groups that did not want this, and now he acts like he had something to do with getting this done. Hope both Tate and Mayor Mary find out in the next election, what happens when you buck the will of the people.
Mo money, mo money!
Puff puff Give, Puff Puff Give... YOU KNOW THIS!
The very least Tater could have done would be to put in a mask mandate while smoking medicinal weed. Every joint I ever smoked didn't have a filter and no doubt you can catch that Covid passing a bong.
Crime is going to LOVE med pot in Jackson.
Crime is going to LOVE med pot in Jackson
Means nothing to me since my local Brandon CBD shop will become my licensed medicinal cannabis shop and I still won’t have to set foot in Jackson unless compelled to do so by the government for some nonsense.
Smile. You're on Dispensary Camera!
I believe in small gubmint as long as it's small enough to control what folks do wit de bodies.
Welcome to the 20th Century, Mississippi.
Can’t wait to hear the complaints about all the vagrants smoking their “medicine” downtown around all the nice people. Hopefully they can converge on the Capitol area 3 months out of the year to administer their treatments so the overseers can appreciate what they’ve unleashed. The push for “recreational” use begins in 4… 3… 2… 1….
@6:57 AM - Please do that so we can watch your arrest on the news.
We, as a state, will regret this in 5-10 years. Unintended consequences.
"Said differently, there will be hundreds of millions of fewer joints on the streets because of this improvement."
I'm no pot head, but I've smoked enough back in the day to know that measuring the amount of MJ consumed in joint consumption form is laughable. Hardly anyone rolls joints these days.
time to legalize all of it...give me some gummies!
Means nothing to me since my local Brandon CBD shop will become my licensed medicinal cannabis shop ...
Not if Brandon opts out.
Groovy Man!

“Far out, man.”
Whole lot of "medical marijuana" patients about to lose their jobs. Legally.
Horrible for this state.
Dude!
Waiting for the first maroon to light up a joint in public thinking it's legal to do so.
Note to self: Buy Zig-Zag stock.
No where in any of Tate’s comments did he say he signed the bill. He’s done everything in his power to kill this bill now he comes across as though he’s satisfied with his bill. He better hope this doesn’t cost him his job.
@8:07
Good thing I got my Uber driver to drop me off while wearing my mask!
6:32 :Tater gone be Tater but at the end of the day The Battle Flag was and is a Flag of surrender and it blows my mind that a Flag of Surrender is so beloved. Pride is a killer. Med Jane actually helps folks in pain.
Dopers better have one of these:
Cancer
Parkinson's disease
Huntington's disease
Muscular dystrophy
Glaucoma
Spastic quadriplegia

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
Hepatitis
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
Crohn's disease
Ulcerative colitis
Sickle-cell anemia

Diabetic/peripheral neuropathy
Spinal cord disease or severe injury
He better hope this doesn’t cost him his job.
It won't.
8:47...Brandon won't. Probably Madison will be the only town to opt out around here. Mainly for aesthetics. But they can't opt out of letting you use it on your property, you'll just have to ride up the road a bit to fill your script.
Now I can legally toke up due to my chronic anxiety.
My Tesla will drive me from my gated community in Flowood, down Lakeland and all the way to Whole Foods.
My HP Reverb 2 VR is finally out for delivery today.
These are literally the Best of Times.
Y'all worried about weed? Go get some Delta 8.
My friends, I had not intended to discuss this controversial subject at this particular time. However, I want you to know that I do not shun controversy. On the contrary, I will take a stand on any issue at any time, regardless of how fraught with controversy it might be. You have asked me how I feel about whiskey. All right, here is how I feel about whiskey.
If when you say "whiskey" you mean the devil's brew, the poison scourge, the bloody monster, that defiles innocence, dethrones reason, destroys the home, creates misery and poverty, yea, literally takes the bread from the mouths of little children; if you mean the evil drink that topples the Christian man and woman from the pinnacle of righteous, gracious living into the bottomless pit of degradation and despair and shame and helplessness and hopelessness, then certainly I am against it.
But if when you say "whiskey" you mean the oil of conversation, the philosophic wine, the ale that is consumed when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and laughter on their lips, and the warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas cheer; if you mean the stimulating drink that puts the spring in the old gentleman's step on a frosty, crispy morning; if you mean the drink which enables a man to magnify his joy, and his happiness, and to forget, if only for a little while, life's great tragedies, and heartaches, and sorrows; if you mean that drink, the sale of which pours into our treasuries untold millions of dollars, which are used to provide tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our deaf, our dumb, our pitiful aged and infirm, to build highways and hospitals and schools, then certainly I am for it.
This is my stand. I will not retreat from it. I will not compromise.
Noah S. "Soggy" Sweat Jr., King Edward Hotel, Jackson, MS, April 1952
Corrupt RINOs through and through...preaching to me all day about big government while they take all of those $10,000 campaign contributions from Pfizer to vote the other way.
If you're prescribed medical marijuana, can your MS employer still fire you if you are given a drug test and it shows up as being in your system in the past?
Stock up on companies that sell snacks.
Now growers will need to take a course in hoop jumping just to get started and you better have a shit ton of scratch cause Tater and locals gotta get theirs. Have they figured out the seed issue yet ? No ? More hassle and expense. Better double check to make sure your warehouse is zoned commercial. More expense. In Jackson the Dope Boys will burn you out. More expense unless you pay the piper and we all know who that is.
Lots of new felons coming soon by lying on the ATF 4473 form.
Welcome to the year 2000, Mississippi
This state becoming as fuk'd up as California......
Well at least all the tokers I put in jail for weed had generous dealers who sold them enough to considered a felony back in the day..LOL
Was funny to see their faces go from "it's only a $300 misdemeanor, big deal" to "oh sh*t, what do you mean it's a felony amount?"..... LOL
11:17,,,,yes, The bill clearly states that.
@11:56
Yeah lying to a corrupt government agency just like taking an oath of office or being a dual citizen. Give it a break it is 2022.
Also, ATF has admitted that they are using the Form 4473 to build a de facto gun registry.
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/atf-admits-secret-database-nearly-one-billion-gun-records
So you look like a complete tool waving that authoritarian flag!
@11:56 I have to wonder if the ATF will require uploading MJ prescriptions to NICS. I know some states already cross reference their firearm permits with MJ cards.
10:00, Dopers don't need any of that. Dopers already have access to all the weed they want. This legislation is for law abiding citizens.
I've been thinking about this, Mr. Hand. If I'm here and you're here, doesn't that make it our time? Certainly, there's nothing wrong with a little feast on our time.
Anyone know where to buy stock in Pizza Hut and Doritos ?
36 states have either legalized for recreational or medical. I haven’t heard that the ATF is enforcing the 4473 to deny gun ownership.
@12:05....you are so cool
To everyone mentioning the form 4473
It also asks if you are a drunkard or mentally insane
That would preclude the sportsball game lushes and Q anon/Alex Jones conspiracy theorists from purchasing as well.

Are you high, Man???
Keyboard must be floating around on your desk.
That must be some really good S**t.
@1:57
Yeah it’s all owned by PepsiCo.
Yes, your employer will still fire you if you fail your drug screen, even if your marijuana was prescribed. After all, alcohol is legal but you can be fired for being under the influence at work.
The problem with marijuana is unlike alcohol, there isn’t a good test for active impairment. THC takes a llooong time to clear the body - weeks for regular users. You’ll burn the bottom out of the pee cup long after you stopped feeling high. The employer has no way of knowing how you really feel, all they know is you’re loaded with THC and it’s a safety hazard.
There will be a lot of good but misinformed people getting fired, and finding blue collar workers will get even harder as people avoid careers that won’t (can’t) accommodate their lifestyle choice.
Here's something else that's going to bite some folks in the ass:
If you get hurt on the job and fail your post-accident drug screen, and impairment may have caused or contributed to the accident... your claim will be denied. You'll be fired for failing the drug screen and those medical bills will be aaaalllll yours.
It doesn't matter if the THC in your system was "prescribed" or not. It's still an intoxicant, just like alcohol. If you have enough of it in your system to trigger a positive result, you're presumed impaired. THC lingers in your body for weeks in regular users... long, long after you stopped feeling high. But employers don't have any better test to use, and they can't afford to have impaired drivers, equipment operators, or other workers.
So how did they reason out that guy or gal who talks his or her Dr. into a script of the kind but instead of smoking it they sell it to their peeps ? That was my first thought. This law will create a whole new kind of drug dealer and I am ok with it.
This gonna mess up M-Bar profits big time. Little Pookie and JzzzRs gonna have to go a different route.
@5:26
I was gonna go to work but then I got high.

Perhaps a flag with Cheech,Chong and Snoop Dog ... all wearing Confederate uniforms ... while each holds a three-chambered bong
could be an "inclusive" banner !
But such design must include at least one character with
(die-ah-late'id cuticles and eyes rolled back upon his head).
@6:57 Madison City Hall doesn't have steps!:(
I see DUI by other substances going up.
4:21, Mr HR Manager, as any good lawyer would say, “well that depends.” The cost of defense would likely exceed the cost of the claim. Poor Mr Cancer Patient got injured at his desk job while working through his cancer battle and got injured due to the employer’s negligence.
6:32, the weed vote was within a year of when this legislation was passed. The people that voted for weed (medical or otherwise being their reason) represented the current voter base.
The flag vote that you reference was in 2001 - there is a whole generation of those voters that are no longer with us and another whole generation that didn't get to vote in 2001 that are registered voters today.
I know that trying to make sense to someone that is still butt hurt over the flag is wasting time but still, might as well make the point. I voted in 2001 not so much to keep the current flag of the time but against the idiotic option we were given by then Governor Musgrove as the other option - something resembling a pizza from Dominos. And just as my vote in 2001 was part of that 'large majority' you are still counting as existing, my vote in 2020 was for the new flag.
So there. figure out how to measure those two votes in your "will of the people".
746, I believe the comment you are responding to suggested if the fact that you were impaired and it contributed to the accident - which doesn't sound like the case you have propounded. Don't know what accident Mr CP incurred sitting at his desk, but if one is in a manufacturing plant, driving or operating equipment, or other such work and the test comes back positive the 'good lawyer' would probably gladly take the case, as would the WC insurer.
HR Manager said...Here's something else that's going to bite some folks in the ass: If you get hurt on the job and fail your post-accident drug screen, and impairment may have caused or contributed to the accident... your claim will be denied. You'll be fired for failing the drug screen and those medical bills will be aaaalllll yours.
Absolutely incorrect. You're either lying about being in HR or you should be immediately demoted.
Having worked in HR management for years, I've been involved in firing quite a few employees who failed post-accident drug screens. While it not illegal in this state to terminate employees who have filed a comp claim or who are 'out on comp', you will never succeed in this state in denying comp benefits in that scenario.
The Comp Commission and administrative law in this regard is that 'marijuana cannot be proved to be the proximate cause of the accident'. Comp will remain the obligation of the company's carrier, regardless of the positive test and regardless of the termination.
Why did they allow medicine and dope in the same bill in the first place?
I still wonder how many would be in favor of medical marijuana if the bill signed by the guv stated it could NOT be in a form that can be smoked - must be in pill form.
Gettin' high with friends passing around fat doobies and drinking wine is 80% of the reason people like it. I know...been there, done that, years back. My question is legit.
"Anonymous said...@6:57 Madison City Hall doesn't have steps!February 3, 2022 at 7:34 PM"
Of course it does. And those steps lead up to a little covered porch, then to the doorway. Perhaps if you've ever climbed them you were stoned and didn't realize it.
