The official song of Jackson should be the chirping of crickets, a sound commonly heard by business owners when they ask for help from the city. A property owner's negligence, bums, and a rising tide of trash are swamping the property of USA Pawn Megastore on I-55 South Frontage Road (by E. McDowell Road.). USA Pawn Managing Partner Nick Fulton vented his frustration:
The problem begins with the adjacent convenience, Marathon. There is a dumpster at the back of the property.
A fence separates the two properties. However, there is a large hole in the fence and that is a major part of a problem.
Vagrants dig through the dumpster, flooding the ground with refuse. The bums hang out by the dumpster and on the pawn shop's property by the hole in the fence. Mr. Fulton said he and his staff have picked up quite a few needles out of the trash. He spent between $500-$1,000 on a crew that cleaned up the property but the money was spent in vain as the area became buried in trash yet again. The fence belongs to the gas station.
Mr. Fulton said he has tried to contact the owner of the Marathon gas station but such efforts have gone in vain. Only clerks are present in the store so the pawn shop owner is forced to leave messages that predictably go unreturned.
Mr. Fulton called the city of Jackson and spoke to a real person but it might as well have been crickets since no action was taken. He called the EPA and received promises to "check into it." A MDEQ agent visited yesterday morning but there is little action MDEQ can take.
Hinds County tax records state Pravinkumar Patel owns the property at 400 East McDowell Road.
Kingfish note: Just one more example of how business owners try to get help from the city of Jackson yet their cries go unanswered. The pawn shop keeps its premises neat and clean.

I know Nick Fulton. He's a good man trying to run a business. I know pawn shops have a stigma, but he runs a good business. He wants things to be kept clean and professional. Nick's family and Brian Smith's family invested a lot of money in that location.
Come on Jackson, let's do better!
It's like a whorehouse madam complaining that the casino next door is making too much noise.
Are you wanting our help? Found the owner of the Marathon in a matter of minutes.
He can bring suit against Patel for diminution of value for the damage to his property.
The pawnshop owner obviously didn't make a contribution to chowke's campaign.
Well,
That’s hard to imagine considering that the wonderful self proclaimed city councilman Mr. Aaron Banks represents that ward
Perhaps mr. banks should spend more time in his own ward rather than protest north park in ridgeland claiming racist policy’s. Anyone remember that
There is no way that our city administration can be that uncaring and/or incompetent. This must be a conspiracy to bring down our city. It has to be intentional on the administration's part. Why can't the voters in Jackson see this!!!!
He should put up his own fence on his property with razor wire on top.
It’s bc he’s white in south Jackson!!!
Aaron banks proved only blacks matter when he protested a private property in ridgeland to be racist usually those obsessed with race are racists
Why am I not surprised to see the name Patel. Every property the cartel buys up turns to shit sooner or later. Evidence? Look at all the Valero stations in the metro. First the cartel bought the one on Lake Harbor at Old Canton. Quickly stopped benefits and reduced pay for employees who were forced to quit. Restaffed with Cartel family. Closed down the great carwash laying off all those people. With regularity one or more pump handles were covered with plastic bags. Clerks with surly attitudes to this day.
Next the cartel purchased the Valero at School Street and 51 in Ridgeland. Same scenario. Then the cartel put another cartel family at the helm and ran inventory all over to satisfy Valero. Same history with pumps out of service, meaning they ain't paying for their gas. The bought and closed the dump Valero in Canton and have now rebuilt. It'll look nice for about eight months.
Am I racist? Just absolutely honest. Same cartel bought property and built 'convenience store' at Yandell and North Old Canton. Still trying to put a whiskey store in the end of the building.
By the way, the term cartel does not refer to race or family. A cartel is a group that fixes prices and runs similar businesses in a market area with a growing monopoly.
First it was motels. Then restaurants. Then gas stations. They own every gas station in smaller towns with whiskey stores next door, bars on the doors and windows and poorly rotated/stocked shelves. Only game in town in many cases. They have no interest in the community or property values.
12:: - Casinos don't make noise. Name one that is not the cleanest, most well kept, well planned venue in the area where it's located.
PS: Stay out of the whorehouses.
This city has zero interest in cleaning up dumping grounds or preventing new pop-up dumps Just yesterday i was clearing brush arond a bridge near my house and discovered a pile of full trash bags, construction debris and a tire.
A neighbor caught someone....possibly students moving out.... throwing a mattress over the side of the bridge.
2:52, not to worry. Think of all the trash and mattresses that will fit in Richard's 96 gallon containers.
I'll have to defend Lumumba on this one. If you want to drive the bourgeoisie out of a city, this are the necessary steps to take.
Not so sure about this one. Reading his story and my experiences with these types of properties I'm pretty certain why he said the city is doing nothing. Take it up with a Legislator.
I have to agree with the "cartel" post above. Add to it the Marathon in Florence. That use to be my "go to" stop to re-fill with fuel when returning from Hattiesburg.
The cartel bought the Marathon in Florence and the gas prices went up, the service went down and the facility devolved from clean to filthy.
Often, trash cans and bags in W & SW Jackson have been emptied into the swale drainage ditches along street edges. My theory is this is the work of aluminum can hunters and occasional racoons, both of whom crash/nest in the many vacant houses.
Our marxist radical boy mayor wants us to buy 96 gal containers for all those renters. The landlords/property owners should be assessed littering fines and unpaid water/trash bills should be assessed as liens against the offending properties, including the "Cartel" Spit-N-Gits.
Two years ago, Stokes advocated requiring these seedy convenience stores to hire their own renta-cops. That's when several of the Patel group got shot. Maybe he can require them to also contract with some of these out of work, lounging citizens (Bums) to pick up all that crap and pay them a reasonable wage...say $26 bucks an hour plus microwaveable sandwiches and chicken inside the store. Win Win.
Well, if this guy still wants to have a business in Jackson ... he should buy and train a few Rottweilers to patrol the perimeter of his parking lot.
Those beautiful animals are 10,000 times more effective than a Belhaven "security patrol" or that elite SWAT force that protects the St-D parking garage from folks trying to get a few puffs off a Marlboro.
I have dealt with USA Pawn. They are professional and more than fair. I would recommend them to anyone!!
Take your business elsewhere. They will all have to close soon! Closing would be the best conclusion if the business is not kept up.
Cartel? You realize that Patel is the most common Indian last name. You know like Smith
That’s anywhere in Jackson. Our main road looks like a furniture store exploded, never used to be like that till the current occupational forces took over Jackson. Guess they’re too lazy to go to the free dump days around Jackson.
I am a student of Asian history, including the Indian Subcontinent.
The local Sikh should take a page from their own history. During the time when the sun never set on the British Empire, the Kings Indian Army commissioned Sikh Jemadars who had a reputation for their discipline, valor, and honor.
6:19 said, "You realize that Patel is the most common Indian last name. You know like Smith."
No joke Sherlock. Can you enlighten us as to which direction the sun will rise tomorrow?
This post is pointless. Jackson will never get better because the majority of the people left in it who vote turn decent places to crap. Fact of life. Deal with it or move out.
"Are you wanting our help? Found the owner of the Marathon in a matter of minutes. February 12, 2022 at 12:44 PM"
'Finding' the owner is not the problem, dumbo. Getting him to respond to repetitive attempts to speak with him is the issue.
6:19 - As was explained, a cartel, by definition, is not about race, creed or nationality....although it's entirely possible that those of one race could establish, populate and run a cartel. If Smith's owned all these places, the comments, reality and accuracy would be the same. You do realize that, right?
Cartel comments is 1000% accurate. Health inspector should shut most of them down due to utter filth or DEQ for storm water pollution. And I don’t give a fuck if they are Indian and are in some sort of collusion. Just clean up your properties. All I can do is shop elsewhere. The Valero at old canton and lake harbor is a good example. I used to go there all the time and also used the car wash. Oh well.
I live in Canton, and I believe all the C stores but one are owned by Indians or Pakistani's or whatever they are. If they buy an old C store, it looks like crap. If they build a new one, it looks okay until the new wears off and then it looks crap. They take no pride in property ownership. Of course, there are plenty of blacks and whites up this way that are no better. A well known family of whites owns a great deal of property here, and they could care less how it looks. They are not going to spend a dollar today on anything unless they can see how it will make them $2 tomorrow. And the city let's everyone slide.
Patel or his people are not worried about that crap on his property or on another property. Just look at all the status of commercial property they own.
Can someone ask Fulton and his people to stop putting signs all over the metro area when the Pawn Shops have a big ole blowout sale? Just stop!
Fulton can lawyer up and do what he needs to do.
Spend some $ Fulton, City of Jackson isn't going to help you one bit.
Yay for Clay Edwards busting sh** out tho.
I know the pawn shop owner doesn't have to, but why doesn't he build his own fence butted up to marathon's fence to keep the trash out?
A pawn shop in Jackson, MS. What could go wrong?
Also to 7:20 - "If Smith's owned all these places, the comments, reality and accuracy would be the same. You do realize that, right?"
You might want to try again on getting it right.
They are lying to him. Everyone that works in the store is an owner. He, his wife, son , and daughter are the only people who work there. They are just lying to him. They won’t do anything because it cost money to. They don’t like paying for anything. Look at their lawns. They also own the liquor store and hotel next to the pawn shop.
February 12 @ 2:49
you still buy your gas at Valero? You alwyas have said it's the cheapest around.
Asking for a friend Mr Ponce.
The MDEQ won't take any more action or be any more effective than the Attorney General's office has been dealing with the vandalized Rosemont Cemetery.
The untold secret is that Indians AKA Patels look down at Americans as beneath them. They care about
money and nothing more. There are some that are caring people but not the majority. The Caste system is
alive and well and in play even if you don't know it.
"First it was motels. Then restaurants. Then gas stations. They own every gas station in smaller towns with whiskey stores next door, bars on the doors and windows and poorly rotated/stocked shelves. Only game in town in many cases. They have no interest in the community or property values."
The stores are just a front to launder money through which is why they don't care if the properties don't have working pumps and look like landfills.
@8:09 Yes and rarely if ever contribute in any way on a local level. Make the money and run/work your way up the caste. Who do you think operates all the "hourly" motels in town and pint stores.
With video cameras as tiny and cheap as they are today there is no way in hell I would rent a room in one of these cartel-owned 'establishments'. Judging by the bathrooms in these 'gas stations', I can't help wondering what their home situation is.
