Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Waste Management can hire more bettah lawyers than the mayor.
He better be ready to have a metric @$$ton of discovery all up in his business.
This ought to hit Baby Chok in a place he understands. Go get 'em Waste Management!
It's very simple. The people of Jackson pay through the nose for substandard city services every day. Our tax dollars are the most misspent and poorly managed in the area. We certainly can't mind spending it on good service for once. I hope Waste Management will not roll over for this power play.
Well this should be entertaining. How long before WM is called racist?
Good for them! Here's hoping Chokwe again hires that half wit lawyer Felecia Perkins on this one. He sure knows how to pick 'em.
Waste Management gets five gold stars in my book. What a class act and what great service to the taxpayers in Jackson.
respond to 6PM
Drop the mike and leave the stage! You hit a BULLSEYE!
Note to Waste Management: The lowest responsible bidder is the one legally entitled to the contract. Richards was lowest, not you. Chase Bryan is a good lawyer, but he won’t be able to get around the outcome determinative facts that Richards was low.
6:00 The term Racist has been rebranded to simply include any individual who is not black. Because Choker Anter Lumamba is a elected black person, absolutely all companies and individuals which may oppose his digressive ideology, are therefore automatically racist. According to Mayor Adams (New York, NY), if you don’t look like him (having black skin), you can’t possibly interpret his understanding of the world. Choker has failed miserably. Not only has his legacy failed, but he has failed the very people who elected him. Unfortunately, most of those voters would never believe the truth. I think most of the first-go-round-voters simply never believed choker could run the city of Jackson so far down and create such a racists culture.
WM will most certainly be labeled racist. One can only hope that choker will be punished for his blatant abuse of power.
THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL. IT MUST
I hope WM tears Ludumba a mew one. He’s mayor of my city but I hate his a$$ and everything he touches turns to crap
I think Wells Young hit the nail on the head. A mayor cannot declare an emergency because he didn't get approval for the vendor he wants. I think the mayor has been getting poor legal advice about his authority and power, and I think that if he pursues this "emergency" decree he will find that out in short order. But one thing I have noticed about the mayor. Every time he gets taken to court (the gun emergency decree) and then an earlier episode in this on-going debacle, he folds--quick. I think the mayor is all talk but can't take a punch, runs when he is confronted. I do hope the council, if not already fed up with this mayor's antics, will now see that the mayor's position is not only untenable but childish. I think the mayor is having a hard time understanding some basic things about government, such as checks and balances. I think he still doesn't understand that a mayor's authority is not nearly as broad and deep as he imagined.
FYI. Any vendor doing business with Jackson has to employ a minority contractor, if the entity is not minority owned to begin with. WM employs one owned by two African American, Jackson attorneys to collect Hinds Co. garbage. It's not a hidden arrangement. The mayor has to have a personal financial incentive to want Richards. Otherwise, it makes no sense.
That's right 9:20, you can always under-bid another company when you control the bidding process: "Let's see, Waste Management has doing an excellent job for decades, but they won't send a few bucks our way. Let's rig the bidding process to get a lower bidder who has proven to both New Orleans and Baton Rouge that they can't provide the service they contracted to do with those cities." WM is too good not to be punished for towing the "woke new city" line."
If Richard's are good enough to haul the trash for the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans then what more could The City With Soul want?
I look at their website and it says:
"With facilities in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Mississippi, it’s our expertise and ability to supply the most discriminate equipment which has awarded us an increasing number of contracts."
Does Waste Management do anything like this?
9:20 You are wrong with Lowest bidder being the only determining factor. Contract must also include specifics with services provided and also what supplies such as cans to each citizen as well. You can pick over the lowest bidder if the company is not deemed to be a good fit as the Mayor likes to use or is Substandard to WM performance. Drop the Mic. Don’t let the Mayor railroad u City Council!
@9:20 - that's a simplistic approach to how responses to RFPs are evaluated under Mississippi statutes. The rule states the "lowest AND BEST" bidder. There is nothing that says the "lowest" is the "best" and in the case at hand the one that the Mayor is presenting is not, in all evaluations, the "best" according to the evaluations that was established by the team that HE (our boy Mayor) appointed to do the evaluation.
With this request for proposals there were several options that required responses. Once or twice a week. With or without carts. Using those options, there were several ways to determine the "BEST" response. Your boy's submittal was based on only ONE of those responses, and even with that selection his chosen vendor was rated as the 'best' by a marginal percentage. If any of the other three options were selected, his "best" response was rated last among the responses.
Yes, the Mayor chose the one that gave him what he wanted. But - we live in a democracy where there are multiple parts to our governance. I realize you probably made it through elementary school where they taught that we have a three part government, and if they did you only understood it as applying to the federal government: i.e. the President, Congress. Supreme Court. But, it also applies to local government. The Mayor - as the Executive, cannot demand that his and only his way is the highway.
I'm sure you realize this and are probably one of his styphnates/appointees that have to defend his idiocy no matter what. But the Council members also represent the people and if they don't accept "his" opinion as to what is the best ------ damn it they get a say as well. Last time I checked, they represent the "people" just as much, or actually more, than he does.
If another one of the responses were considered - Richards would not be rated as being "THE BEST". There were other options- but your boy Mayor will not present them because he doesn't want that result. We don't know why he doesn't want the other choices, but for whatever reason it doesn't rise to the level of an emergency ---- just as it didn't last October when he tried this shit. There are other ways to ensure that the garbage will be collected, it just is not under the control of what HE wants. He was not elected as a dictator whereby he can insist on his way or the highway. The Council can, and it appears will, insert their voices into the discussion as well.
The question to be asked by those defending the boy Mayor is why he refuses - this time just like the last time - to not recommend either of the responses by the current provider (picked by a previous Mayor to provide this service) - when his personal preference was not accepted. Instead he has chosen to try to declare an emergency because he cannot get his way (kinda like my kids when they were 6 and 3 and playing in the sandbox and they didn't want to share their toys with the other.)
There is no emergency. The Mayor has multiple responses to the RFP that was advertised and received responses. He made a recommendation but it wasn't accepted or approved by the Council. Both sides of this argument have their reasoning; and each can defend why they made the decisions that they have made. But because the Mayor can't get his choice approved doesn't not rise to an emergency; there are other options available from this RFP (just like there was from the previous RFP) that will ensure that the city's garbage is collected.
This narcissistic Mayor is making noises that resemble our previous President - thinking that everything revolves around his on world and for his own benefit. Amazing that the two idiots seem to operate in the same world.
@9:52 PM
Chokwe is the Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi. You’re some dime a dozen anonymous commenter speaking on Chokwe on a garbage blog ran by a known racist. Think about that for a second.
@5:27
Mayor Lumumba is also an internationally recognized, civil rights icon. The only way Kingfish is recognized locally is by his gay ass voice.
@5:27 AM - How long have you been on Chowke's staff or inner circle?
I see the Donna Ladd reasoning has appeared, i.e. anyone who dares to criticize a black appointed official must be a racist. The fact that the M Bar owner's wife is an owner in the company supplying the garbage cans is immaterial. The people who voted Lumumba in may be that stupid but not all of us are. Waste Management is the only service provided by this horrible city that actually works.
5:27 a.m. - When you have a weak position, calling others racist does not make your argument stronger. Chokwe is the mayor, but any halfway objective observer can see he isn’t a good mayor. Just because he is black doesn’t make him a good mayor, nor would he be a good mayor if he were white. His color is irrelevant as to whether he is a good mayor or not. It is obvious he wants to game the system to award the garbage contract to his preferred bidder. The majority black council sees it for what it is, corruption. Are they racist because they see that the mayor is gaming the system and abusing his authority? Maybe you should stop accusing others of being racist and objectively evaluate the situatIon. If Chokwe were white, would you not think he is gaming the system? If he were white, you likely would be accusing him of racism because he isn’t doing what the majority black city council thinks he should be doing, and is abusing his authority to game the system to do an end run to reach a goal he can’t legitimately achieve otherwise. The mayor is wrong on this, and his race is irrelevant, and certainly not a justification for corrupt actions.
Anyone else get the feeling that the M Bar owner is the real mayor of the city?
Richards was the lowest “and best” bidder. And the racial slurs said on here about Mayor Lumumba being a “boy” are wrong and despicable. Comments with racist epithets should be banned from this site.
GAWD Almighty....Harvey was better than Chuckie...
Will someone please counter the comments the mayor made (WLBT?) as to why he thinks the other guys "won" the contract fair and square? Cause that source clearly didn't state any reason why the other members voted against it.
All he talked about was how much money it would save everyone. But that can't be true.
5:27 A second is all it takes to realize that just because one is a Mayor, doesn’t automatically deem them qualified to be the mayor. The real racists are you and Lumumba. You know you’re racists, so please explain what happened to make you racist. I believe KF does everything straight up. You try to demean KF by calling this a garbage blog. Please do list a few articles that were garbage. And, please consider not being so hateful because of a person’s skin color. Just look at the facts. The mayor is wrong about this and its an injustice to the people who are paying for it. Please explain how Richards is the better service.
@7:49 PM
Agreed. To extend further, you should provide the stupid 5:27 AM commenter with examples of white men who criticized black ELECTED officials throughout the years who weren’t racist. Prove Donna Ladd wrong in the process. In other words, educate him.
“The people who voted Lumumba in may be that stupid but not all of us are.“
When you say “that stupid” you’re admitting to being stupid to a certain extent. So where does your level of stupidity ends?
Waste Management is a $59 Billion company. Game on!!
The mayor is a stonefish. He has poisoned the schools, the police, the streets, the water, and the sewers. He had one tentacle left and he shoved it in the only open orifice, garbage. He is the most poisonous fish in the Jackson pond.
Richard's presents a cheaper option which would change the manner in which the garbage is collected. Richard's track record and ability is questionable. Waste Management presents a slightly more expensive option that keeps the manner of collection in it's present state. Their performance is very good and the city is generally satisfied with things as they are. The city council has rejected the mayor's preference for Richard's twice. WM stands ready to continue. What's the emergency?
The emergency is that Jackson has a mayor so determined to overturn the "status quo" and create his version of a radical's haven that he will ignore the interests of the people he is supposed to serve. If WM were creating a problem or performing substandard that would justify this mayor's actions, but the "problem" with WM is it's not part of the mayor's support team and therefore unacceptable.
Gadfly has a video of the Jackson Zoo back in the late 50s as a favorite on his YouTube channel. Let me guess: You reminisced on when your mom and dad took you to the zoo on Capital Street? No wonder you posted a video of Jitney Jungle from the 60s. You miss how Capital Street used to thrive before the N-words moved into the neighborhood and tore everything up.
Look at Capital Street now! LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
Richard's is low-down, not lowest priced, if 24 out of 25 NOLA damning YELP comments are accurate. It's Richard's Disposal who should be dumped, not Waste Management, who have been reliable for years.
BTW, could Richard's be "disposing" relevant discovery documents?
Hey Richards at 9:20.
When the fix is in, it doesn’t matter that WM was lowest (and best) bid and that they have a disposal site locally to haul the garbage to. The Mayor can choose the 1 category that Richards was low in, even if it forces a 96 gallon container on every household. So the Mayor chooses an option that guarantees garbage will be left on the streets if not in mammoth containers. With no transfer facility, or approval from mdeq for one, guess Richards will be paying a premium at Canton landfill, if there is capacity for all of Jackson’s waste. This will affect every registered voter in Jackson. Mayor May have chosen the wrong battle on this one. Either way, WM wins. I’m surprised at how generous they are being to jackson given the circumstances and treatment by the Mayor.
Next amateur move by Mayor Hindsight (radical tunnel vision out his hind end): to turn thousands of Iguanas loose in the sewer system which are actually known to swim upstream into toilets. Emergency! Send Socrates to the rescue!
From the previous post, these people cannot even spell Emergency in the heading of an official letter. Nothing to do with colors, just plain incompetence from the top, down. Embarrassing.
9:20 is confusing an RFP with an IFB. Which this whole thing should have been in the first place.
12:15 You’re kidding, right???
Businesses can put whatever they wish on their self-promoting website.
Read their reviews from those who receive this “discriminate equipment” and the many 1 out of 5 ratings, only because it is not possible to leave a ZERO.
Who owns the landfills around Jackson, MS?
Actually the video is from the 1940's. Pay attention.
9:52. Being mayor makes Chockwe more than mortal? You and one or two others seem to have a really outsized notion about the authority of a mayor—or are maybe just ignorant about how government works in a republic. You also seem to have a supersized opinion about our child mayor’s capabilities. I haven’t seen much of anything from except endless yak-yak and petulance when he doesn’t get his way.
I hope this gets tied up in court for several years and that trash pickup ceases during that time.
@ 9:43 - "The Mayor can choose the 1 category that Richards was low in, even if..."
I'm pretty sure the city council makes the decision.
8:10 AM
I think he's the biggest gangster in the city pulling strings.
@10:12 AM
40s, 50s, 60s...what does it matter? Same people referring to Blacks as N-words. Pay attention.
8:18 AM
At this point I think Kenneth Stokes would be a better mayor. And I hate the man.
@7:37 AM
Just to be clear I live in NE Jackson in choke gated neighborhood in fact. Also his kid is in private school with one of mine same class it’s funny you act like he is high and mighty and he is only a public servant of a mod size city and failing to lead at that. If I were black I wouldn’t run for mayor of Jackson as it’s a mess and a pay cut for me… I think it’s amusing you find lumumba so credible or act that he’s achieved something. He’s totally incompetent and can’t earn a real paycheck so he ran for public servant
@10:51 AM
Place a comma after the word “point.”
Omit “I think.” The sentence is already written in first-person narrative.
At this point, Kenneth Stokes would be a better mayor.
Paraphrase “And I hate the man” after introducing Stokes. Also, stop beginning a sentence with “And.”
Translation: At this point, Kenneth Stokes, a man who I hate, would be a better mayor.
Here are the facts: Richards won the bid, fair and square and are millions cheaper than WM over the long haul. Richards has been in business since 1978 and has a good record. WM, on the other hand, has workers ready to strike on them and have inequitable service across our city.
Sure, WM will file suit, Chase will make a lot of money (good for him; he’s a good lawyer and guy), but they will lose. Mayor Lumumba is making the right call legally.
What does the current City of Jackson Solid Waste Management Plan filed with MDEQ actually say about this? Has it been updated since Frank Melton was mayor?
Can Flowood please annex Jackson. Gary Rhoads would have this shit nipped in the bud quick like! Garbage-Check, next Water and Sewage-check, next getting all these corrupt folks out of Jackson-Shad said check.
This city is shit and Boy Mayor is THE problem.
That isn't racist- it is descriptive of his maturity level. He is a child playing in a grown man (or woman's) world.
February 19, 2022 at 10:51 AM
90's, 00's, 2010's...what does it matter? Same people calling all whites racist. Pay attention.
Every reporter should ask only one question of the mayor
How much money will your friends make from the Richards waste contract?
Do not ask anything else.
Attn 11:02 How do you know it would be a pay cut for you? Do you really think this mayor is living his lifestyle off of his mayors salary? Now, that might be what his income tax records indicate.
The Porsche. Don't forget the Porsche.
@1:26
It would be a pay cut for me bc I own and operate over 30 payday loan centers in Mississippi Arkansas Louisiana Tennessee and Alabama. I live in NE Jackson have 4 kids in private schools go to CCJ and river hills all from my hard earned money and I didn’t come from money like
Most of my north east jackson neighbors. Chokwe didn’t earn his lifestyle like I did mine… I got a scholarship to Georgetown for baseball
11:33 am
Spirit of Donna Ladd self deludes. NOLA customers say YELP-wise: Richard's sux. Jxn customers have been well served by WM, which does not stand for White Masters except in a JFP Twilight Zone.
@11:52 AM
I can’t understand anything you said. No one can.
KF, you can purchase a Porsche too if you remove all of these ass-kissing, low-revenue generating ads from your blog and go get a job.
Internationally recognized civil rights person?? WHATEVER!!! You’re dumb. WM, please put this wanna-be activist in his place. He is ruining the lives of all of those that he suppose to be representing.
Hey, 11:28. It should be “.. a man WHOM I hate,”. Tidy up the grammar policing or turn in your badge.
11:33 Richard's was low bidder under a particular method of trash removal which the mayor favors because it's Richards best bid, not because the people of Jackson want it. In fact the council rightly recognizes the people's satisfaction with WM. In Jackson that says a lot. Richards record is not good. Workers ready to strike? That's an old mafia trick, try again. "Inequitable" service? There's that equity word again. Watch out. It means that all other considerations don't matter anyway. We got to have "equity". That's the bottom line. Just tell the truth.
Internationally recognized civil rights ha… yeah look at China if you want to talk civil rights or lack there of. Look at Castro in Cuba how he jailed more black men per capita than any place on the planet look at other Latin American countries how they treat women and blacks. Mexico won’t allow black Haitians or carribean migrants through look at Middle East they still use black slaves such as Dubai. America is so bad on Civil rights black Haitians and Africans risk there lives to get here. How bad we must be!!! Get a clue and stop living in your liberal privileged bubble. America is only place where we all are free and have opportunity and if you disagree then your spoiled american ass needs to talk to those that immigrated here.
Besides yapping, what has he done for civil rights?
Re 11:28 (pause here) Witch is the worstest: starting a sentence with And or starting it with Also? Same difference?
"Internationally recognized, civil rights icon"? I tell ya, this place is comedy gold.
Richard’s ace labor management is what put so much garbage onto the streets of New Orleans the city had to hire an emergency contractor to clean up what the non-performing Richard’s staff did not. Wait for it here. Richard’s is the benefactor of an emergency then will cause another.
P.S. The self-described crowning achievement of the solidarity economy in the former Mayor Lamumba’s writings was passage of the “people’s” 1% sales tax. Yes. The big civil rights achievement was to take more tax money and still deliver third world water service to the underprivileged. What a win.
2:42 - Regarding the 'who whom' issue, please read your post again and then read this, from English Language and Usage:
'They are the people we dislike' sounds more acceptable. But it has been said many times on ELU that with the possible exception of after a preposition, 'whom' has little place in modern English. –
Edwin Ashworth Aug 31, 2016 at 23:03
My rule (due to personal preference) would be to save "whom" for short clauses or fragments like "To whom?", "From whom?", "By whom"? In cases like this, I would use "those who" or "those that" or "the ones": "They are the ones we dislike." –

As a follow up, you might want to see the source for my answer to you. Read pages 156-157 to see the method you can use to figure out which pronoun form to use in a subordinate (dependent) clause. images.pcmac.org/SiSFiles/Schools/AL/HooverCity/SpainParkHigh/… –

There needs to be a system redesign of trash collection in Jackson.
Hire a department head and have city employees. This way the employees can have benefits like a pension with PERS. It will be cheaper for the city to not contract out.
"Mayor Lumumba is also an internationally recognized, civil rights icon."
Lumumba II is the product of a lucky sperm. That's all. He has no other accomplishments, and has earned no other claim to fame. He's a spoiled rich kid who rode into public office on his father's coattails.
11:33 AM, those are not facts. They are opinions. Everyone commenting here has them.
Hold on. Be fair to Richards. There was this thing called Ida and a total wipeout of the power grid.
11:33 AM here's the REST of the facts. Richards did not "win" the bid - their proposal on one of the four options was deemed the lowest based solely on the price. But with the other four considerations, they were the worst rated of the three.
IF the only option that is deemed acceptable - as is the Mayor's position - is the one where we will all be supplied with 96 gallon carts, Richards' price is the lowest. And the reason for the carts? Normally it is so that the work can be done mechanically. But our boy Mayor has decided that a utility service should be considered a jobs program and dictated in the RFP that his office established that all trucks would be manned by two hoppers. With the recognized purpose of having carts is to eliminate the need for as much manpower, it would appear that the only real reason for the carts is so that some "unknown" company could provide them.
The Mayor's mouthpiece, COS Omeria, said that the reason is that the city would look so great with all those matching carts, with the city's logo emblazened upon them, lined up along the streets -- just think of how pretty that would be!! Bullshit. The idea of garbage cans matching making the City of Soul becoming beautiful is crap. There is obviously some other reason for the ONLY bid that was received that the boy dictator deems worthy of submitting to the Council is the one that requires the purchase of 50,000 96 gallon carts.
Richards did not win anything "fair and square". Mississippi law requires the selection of the lowest and best bid - not the lowest. And under the current administration there have been several contracts issued that were not to the lowest in price.
You have either bought the bait, or more probably, are on the Mayor's payroll - either officially as a city appointee or otherwise.
You can carry his water; you can carry his garbage. But trying to sell his garbage as fact doesn't carry real water.
Thanks for your thoughts although they ignore the statutory process. And since you are probably an attorney, aren't you restricted from presenting false facts as part of your argument?
No, KF - being "fair" to Richards, there were plenty of complaints prior to Ida. AND, a utility company, which is what a trash collection service qualifies as, is required to be prepared for an emergency. Yes, there can be some immediate problems with service, but the problems that existed after Ida related to trash collection continued well past the reasonable time allocated to natural disasters.
Yes, the city probably should have done more from their end, but when dealing with NOLA you should know to expect the same non-performance by the city as when dealing with the City of Soul here in Jackson.
Richards can be forgiven for a week or two after Ida, but not for the period that they failed to provide the required services. That is what they (or any similar provider) contracts for and agrees to at the time they solicit the work.
@8:52 - surely you jest!
Try to hire folks to work for the City of Jackson, working for the Public Works Director (or department, who GAS) to handle garbage collection in Jackson.
Hell, those folks can't get water to your house. Or shit out of your house to the treatment plant. They can't get a bill for the water, sewer, or garbage.
What makes you think that the City could perform this service? Idiocy?
The City of Jackson cannot: Provide Police Protection. Cannot provide water to its residents or commercial operations. Cannot make streets drivable. Cannot keep the sewage within the collection pipes.
Hell, they cannot even answer the 911 telephone lines when reporting someone in imminent danger, nor can they call an ambulance to the scene after they did not respond.
Turning garbage collection over to "staff"??
I truly hope you were kidding with your suggestion.
Have you ever tried to move a 96 gallon container? If you are small or old?? Or tried to roll a full 96 gal container down a hill? This size container does not work for the average Jackson resident. Thus it is not best for the citizens.
February 19, 2022 at 8:52 PM
That's another way to ruin the only working utility on Jackson. When we left Jackson in 2020, my wife spent two days trying to contact someone in the water department. She even got someone from another city department to try and contact them and they couldn't get through. And you want to change garbage to that?
Let’s not forget. Richards Disposal has terrible reviews in current markets it serves. Also, it doesn’t even own the trucks it plans to purchase to serve Jackson. Do we truly believe they will be able to purchase and receive this equipment, hire enough to man these trucks in one month? All for a one-year contract? This smells like Metrocenter fiasco.
@11:48 PM, no-work hopper jobs targeted for credible messenger program "graduates".
February 19, 2022 at 7:39 PM
Thank you. Will look on this site for grammatical questions in the future.
Mr. Mayor: Please look up Dunning–Kruger effect.
Internationaly recognized ? Yeah, as DRAKE!!!!! 😆
Just throw the whole city away, sick of it and sick of the $hit show, move out if you can.
