Here we go again. The city of Jackson is yet again hiding the crime stats. Jackson has not updated its website in nearly a year despite crime soaring out of control.
This is not the first, second, or third time Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has hidden the crime stats. JPD said at an April Ward 1 community forum the crime stats were not updated due to new software. Uh-huh. They haven't been updated in a year because of software problems. Right. What follows is what JJ published a year ago. There is no sense in rewriting it when it is just as applicable today as it was last year.
The Lumumba administration is hiding the crime statistics yet again. This is not the first, second, or third but the fourth time the administration has done so.
The crime stats have not been updated on the city website all year but for March. Actually, March was not even posted until Thursday. Posted below is a screenshot from the city's website today:
Such omissions are par for the course for this bunch. The Mayor will probably make up some excuse. He has a talent for doing to that is matched by few politicians. Expect some feigned outrage as well. After the outrage comes some claims about how he has done more than any other Mayor to blah, blah, blah. Some yapping about transparency will be sprinkled on the outrage served hot. Despite all of his blathering, the fact remains that he and his father repeatedly hid the crime stats. They hid them so much that it's a family tradition.
One of the first things the elder Mayor Lumumba did when he assumed office was to remove the crime reports from the city website. They were not made public again until Tony Yarber became Mayor. He returned to the tradition of posting the weekly Comstat reports and did so for the rest of his term.
Enter Chokwe Antar Lumumba. The crime reports disappeared from the website for nearly a year after he assumed the purple. The weekly Comstat reports returned in November 2018 but disappeared in February 2019. This website reported the removal of the crime stats. Suddenly the Mayor rushed into action to announce a new policy:
The Jackson Police Department is in the process of transitioning from Comstat to UCR (Uniform Crime Report) which will contain the numbers reported to the FBI. These reports will be posted on the 15th of every month. The administration posted the February 2019 report later that day. The ploy worked as the media went away. The crime stats were not updated again until October - after this website reported their disappearance. The post must have gotten someone's attention because the crime stats popped up on the website a few hours later.
Unfortunately, the administration resumed the disappearing act at the start of 2020. The crime stats were not posted all year. The March report suddenly appeared Thursday.
JPD used to have weekly Comstat meetings that were open to the public. The Chief would go over the crime numbers with the command staff. Interim JPD Chief Anthony Moore reduced the weekly meetings to bi-weekly. The monthly UCR public reviews that were supposed to take place have largely disappeared.
There is also the matter of what information is provided in the crime reports as the Lumumba administration took a butcher knife to the crime reports, severely cutting back the information provided to the public. The"report" provides no year-to-date statistics, much less YTD stats from the previous year. This little ommission effectively prevents Jacksonians from seeing the true picture of in the capital city.
Check out this page from the Comstat reports that JPD used for years.
The reports were eight pages and usually provided supplemental pages of the streets where each crime occurred. Crime maps were usually posted as well. This all changed under Mayor Lumumba. Compare that one page to what was posted for years to Mayor Lumumba's idea of crime reports:
Check out the homicide section. The city reports all of NO murders for March and February but it reports 5 manslaughter by negligence cases in March and another 13 in February. The report claims NO murders took place in March 2019 while 2 manslaughter negligence cases took place during the same period. Talk about an unlucky city.
JPD used to include the total number of homicides for the year in press releases on homicides. Chief Moore stopped that practice. One can't determine the number of homicides from the crime reports for the year. One has to ask JPD for such information.
Other crimes such as auto burglary and carjacking are not specifically mentioned in the UCRs.
The Mayor made it virtually impossible to compare the crime stats of 2020 to previous years. After years of watching the Lumumbas hide crime reports, it is pretty safe to assume their actions are no accident are a pattern of hiding crime information. They simply do not want the public to know the state of crime in Jackson. The question to be asked is why?
Kingfish note: This is what the people of Jackson desire. For all their vigils about crime, they reward politicians and judges who are either soft on crime or criminal-friendly in their policies. The Mayor and his father get away with this because frankly, the voters reward them for doing so.
Meanwhile, this is what the Lumumba administration calls a monthly crime report.
Posted below are the crime stats Jackson used to have. Notice a difference?
Kingfish note: Hides EPA orders, lies to New York Times, lets libraries crumble to dust, just more of the same.

Just a perception of crime-
https://www.wlbt.com/2020/11/19/watch-live-city-jackson-discuss-real-time-crime-center/
Y'all just need to give the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) time to kick in. Or maybe it has??? Maybe there is zero crime due to the (RTCC). Nothing to report here. Move along folks. The progressives have saved the City.
From what I can gather, this mayor equates lawlessness with civil rights. It's basically the specious logic that black people don't like cops because they believe the police unfairly target them, so the solution is to restrain the police from doing their duty to protect the citizenry and serve the public trust, thus freeing black people from police oppression.
There are myriad problems with that line of reasoning, but chief among them is that the 80%+ black population is getting slaughtered, not by the police, but by the criminals who are now free to roam the city with out police oppression.
This has resulted in violent crime the likes of which this city has never seen. I live in Austin, Texas and last year this city of over 1 million people had 48 homicides. That's for the whole year.
Jackson is a city of 160,000 and has almost 60 murders so far this year (Austin's count this year is in the 20s). So thanks to the most radical of city administrations, a city that has more than an 84% lower population has double the homicides. God help us if the population of Jackson was to grow!
And now we have a young girl graduating from Murrah who was gunned down in public hours after receiving her diploma. This is the result of Lumumba's most radical city in America policing policies.
No wonder they're hiding the statistics
Voters don’t care
A report came out a few days ago and showed St. Louis, MO, has the highest murder rate in the US. I scanned the list (the usual suspects of Detroit, New Orleans, Birmingham) and it did not include Jackson.
From the numbers (percentages) given on homicides/per population, I think Jackson exceeds St. Louis and should be Number One. Why aren't we #1? Do you or other readers have some idea why we aren't #1 after trying so hard?
He will be re-elected. I will never understand why cities continue to vote in these administrations. Chicago, Detroit, New York, etc.
According to the Jackson Fan Club who feels non-residents are just commenting out of suburbia-induced misery, the best way to proceed is to simply stop saying mean things about Jackson.
So this trend of not releasing crime stats makes sense.
Kingfish,
Didn’t you know crime stats are racist? You should know since you have never once approved one of my comments that compare demographic crime statistics!
Authoritarians only communicate when they see it fit to do so.
If I had failed as badly as Antar has, I'd be covering up the evidence too. So much for his claims of being the most transparent city administration ever - just another lie.
In order to understand why certain information is suppressed you must first understand that the mayor, like his father is first driven by an ideology totally misunderstood by both white and black citizens of Jackson. Negative information is a part of the oppression which they must ultimately defeat. Accentuate the positive of collective economics and grass-roots self-determination and diminish the influence of those who would remind the masses of their negative reality. The problem is...reality keeps getting in the way. If only the mayor could get a transfer to Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, or the dream-world, San Francisco. Jackson can't afford him.
Only thing more racist and dangerous than gun shows are those dang crime reports! There’s no crime here! Stop tarnishing the city with soul!
The more I see Lumumba the more I like Bennie Thompson. I want Bennie to live a very long time. The last thing we need is for Mississippi to send an AOC clone to Congress.
And yes, I know Antar doesn't live in Bennie district. Does anyone think that pesky laws will slow down Antar?
And the "cool" part ? He will be RE-ELECTED by Jacksons new woke white residents !!! That's right folks. Jackson Mississippi , while you were asleep was invaded by a crap ton of progressives from all over the country. Spend ten minutes down town reading tags . See for yourself.
FREE THE STATISTICS!! BY ANY MEANS NESESSARY!!
Why does the federal government not withhold funds for Jackson for not reporting the crime data for publication? 2 word answer “Benny Thompson”.

Is it called Real Time Crime Center because the response is measured in geological time?
11:16 AM
I think you're right on a per capita basis. Even if you were to be generous and include the 'burbs, but those metro areas have larger absolute population numbers so they'll still beat Jackson in raw numbers.
The bottom line mentaility is this: Why should I do my job? I'm getting paid the same regardless.
Compare the current Chokwe debacle to the Dupree fiasco that went down in Hattiesburg. Same song, same verses, same results.
Time to break out the pencil and paper to keep score.
Is the City required by an applicable law to keep and frequently update their crime stats online?
If not (and I honestly don’t know the answer to that question), it seems like the primary people to benefit from the posting would be websites including but not limited to this one, that are more interested in using the City of Jackson as a punching bag for the sake of clicks, rather than being any help at all (which doesn’t exactly encourage transparency or honest conversation on how to overcome the challenges the City faces).
According to latest crime stats, the odds of a person getting murdered in Jackson is 4 times more likely than in Chicago. Why is it so hard to verify the crimes stats?
11:16 you get what you vote for!
Nope. First thing that Mayor of Meridian did when he beat Berry was clamp down on putting crime stats online. Of course, crime went up under his beat.
Baton Rouge has a record murder toll so far this year and did last year. What does Bumbling Broome do? Hasn't updated them all year.
People who hide things usually have something to hide.
3:56: Has it occurred to you that maybe the citizens have a right to know how well their government is performing?
Lumumba said in the beginning he would fight the perception of crime. That’s what he’s doing. None of this surprises me.
The reason Jackson is not ranked in the murders per capita report is because JPD doesn’t submit the Uniform Crime Reports, which where that information is gotten
So he's hiding them? Does any reasonable person need stats to tell them that water is wet?
And BTW, if you are looking for the cause... check the mirror. Hard for society (black, white, or otherwise) to move forward educationally, economically, politically, etc when you spend all your time standing on the neck of minorities. The people of MS made this bed, and now we are all sleeping in it.
I wonder how much federal money Jackson gets for law enforcement. I'm sure the city gets federal grants. If you don't follow their rules you are supposed to lose that money. I would like to know how the mayor really feels about this. Based on his actions the average person already knows how he feels. This is a big deal.
Saw where Jackson made the list of 10 slowest markets in the US from Realtor.com
Will the 'perception guy' please kiss my ass and desist? He worse than 'the whistler' at the college baseball games and that guy needs his ass stomped.
Jackson will never have another FRANK MELTON... Say what you want he had crime under control, even through persecution.
July 19, 2006 - Jackson Mayor Frank Melton received criticism from advocates for the homeless when he used the city's emergency order to enforce a 10 p.m. curfew for the city's homeless population. According to Michael Stoops, executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless in Washington, the curfew is the first of its kind in the nation. He also said that it effectively amounts to a modern Jim Crow law.[13]
July 26, 2006 - Frank Melton raises security concerns with US House of Representative, and senior Homeland Security Committee Democrat, Bennie Thompson (MS) when Melton applied for, and was issued, a United States Capitol Police badge and identification card. The card allowed Melton, armed, to bypass security in Federal Buildings, congressional offices and Congress. Wilson Livingood, sergeant-at-arms for the U. S. House, stated in the report to Thompson dated Aug. 17 that Melton showed a Jackson Police Department credential to Capitol police.
August 26, 2006 - See above for Ridgeway incident.
Nov. 15, 2006 - Melton pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors for carrying a weapon into a church and a park, and no contest to a reduced charge on what had been a felony count involving a gun onto the grounds of the Mississippi College School of Law.
March 1, 2007 - Judge Tomie Green issued a warrant for the arrest of Frank Melton. The warrant was issued on the basis of probation violation because Melton resumed going on midnight club raids, while wearing an unofficial badge, among other possible violations.
March 7, 2007 - Frank Melton left the hospital in the early morning and returned home without alerting the Sheriff's Department. After his ankle bracelet alerted his probation officer that he was back at home, the sheriff called and told Melton to turn himself in to Hinds County authorities, where he was put into the medical ward of the jail.
March 8, 2007 - The Mississippi Supreme Court vacated the arrest warrant for Frank Melton, and asked that Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green be recused without explaining the reasons for either decision.
April 24, 2007 - Frank Melton goes on trial for felony charges stemming September 15, 2006 demolition of a house on Ridgeway Street.
April 26, 2007 - Frank Melton is found not guilty on all counts.
February 2, 2009 - Melton's federal civil rights trial for demolishing the Ridgeway house began.
February 24, 2009 - Melton's federal civil rights trial ended in a mistrial when jurors notified the judge that they could not arrive at a verdict. The case was scheduled to be retried on May 11.[14]
Even with all this safe streets -- NOW YOU LIVE IN FEAR!!!!
Frank Melton? Really? Got news for you, sport model, crime went UP under Melton and it got even worse when Mac became chief.
Frank Melton was using the police to put rival drug dealers out of business. Watch Narcos or El Chapo on Netflix to see how that works.
WLBT reported on the newscast last night about the City of Jackson's failure to provide requested information. The opening paragraph of the story on WLBT's website is as follows:
The city of Jackson will be required to pay more than $170,000 in legal fees to WLBT’s parent company, Gray Television, after the Mississippi Ethics Commission ruled the city violated state law by taking more than a year to provide public records to WLBT.
The whole story is there for those interested.
