Mississippi Homeland Security Director Lora Hunter resigned after only two months in the position.
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tyndall issued the following statement on April 27:
Today Commissioner Sean Tindell announced the appointment of Lora Hunter to serve as Director of the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security.
Before joining the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, Hunter served as General Counsel for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Prior to serving as DPS General Counsel, Hunter also served as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for the Northern District of Mississippi, Criminal Division, and as an Assistant District Attorney for Hinds County, Mississippi. While an AUSA, Hunter served as lead counsel in the prosecutions of various violations of federal law, including multi-jurisdictional Organized Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) cases, firearms, civil rights, narcotics, white-collar, and violent crimes. In 2018, Hunter received HIDTA’s National Outstanding Team Investigation Award for a three-year, multi-jurisdictional OCDETF case.
Hunter earned her J.D. in 2009 from the University of Mississippi and B.S., Magna cum laude, in 2006 from Mississippi College. She received extensive legal training in federal criminal practice at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina, and is a graduate of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Trial Academy hosted by the Stanford School of Law. She is licensed to practice in all Mississippi courts, the Northern District Court of Mississippi, the Southern District Court of Mississippi, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
The Homeland Security website still states she is the Director. However, JJ has confirmed she resigned.
Kingfish note: Well, that was quick. Did she run afoul of the good ole boy culture and get tired of it?

King Fish, this state need needs more "good ole boy" culture than ever before.
With her credentials she likely had a handful of better offers.
Ooops!
Gotta hate when that happens.
Whatever it was!
Homeland Security....now that's funny, is Big Bucks Bennie still Chairman?
Just another avenue to fleece!

Hell no it doesn't. That same culture has helped keep this state at the bottom of pretty much....well everything.
"Mississippi: Making all the other states feel better about themselves since 1817." Can we make that the State slogan?
"Homeland Security" Another huge rice bowl created post-9/11. They must be effective because Taliban and Al Qaeda attacks have been greatly reduced in Mississippi.
For those who didn't know we had a state department of homeland security, and don't know what it does (which it seems is most of you), let me clarify.
MS Homeland distributes grant funding and training to first responders. Police, Sheriff, Fire, and Emergency Mgt. agencies. These grants assist struggling agencies obtain needed equipment and certifications. Something we can all agree is needed.
It has nothing to do with Federal Homeland Security or Bennie.
Lora Hunter was an honest individual and a qualified director. Homeland's loss is our loss.
@1:18.. the culture that has kept this state at the bottom is definitely NOT a good ol' boy culture. It's the culture that wants everything without working, it's the culture that wants reparations for things that happened a LONG time ago, it's the culture that elects politicians based on race only and it's the culture that will shoot a person at the drop of a hat.
The same thing will happen when DWFP is made to slice out Parks and put Parks in another division or stand-alone. Some girl who worked for 'Game and Fish' will be appointed to head it up and will quit three months into the job.
There goes the “new minority” spouting off again, yeah right, we need the good ole boys.
@2:19 "distributes grant funding"...exactly Another way to fleece tax dollars. Do you really think these people were not taken care of before HOMELAND SECURITY? These agencies are all alike, doing what they need to do to tap that GRANT money! Prove me wrong!
@7:34 PM
Stay jealous.
I made my first million by the age of 25 by providing consulting services “deciphering” federal grant applications to unelected bureaucrats whose highest levels of education were a GED.
Now I am in the booming business of immigration law.
Don't know who you think is going to 'make' DWF slice out Parks; don't know who you think that creating a new agency just for Parks is a good idea; and don't know who you think will be the existing employee that would get this cush promotion. And, you provided nothing to make me think that you know either.
But again, thanks for playing. Pick up your consolation prize on your way out. Just hurry out.
@2:25pm You're all over the map! Pick a lane dude!
Seeing her background in law enforcement.....yes, it's likely she got a detailed whiff of the good ole' boy stink that is in no way "by the book". They probably tried to put her in her place, or ignored her directions...and she bolted.
In Mississippi - no one is supposed to make a move until everyone is satisfied with the decision....which is always connected to public dollars in some way. Want to promote accountability for public dollars? You're an outsider....an agitator....not one of us. That is the core reason MS is at the bottom. Shhhhhh.....keep it quiet.
This also applies to the State Auditor, and he's been told as much.
"Now I am in the booming business of immigration law." June 21, 2021 at 9:06 PM
It's 'booming' alright. Just like ambulance chasing is booming. Immigration law is right down there in the terlet next to "Injured? Call me!"
Illegals, their sponsors, whoever they can screw out of lawyer fees, will do anything to get their case accepted by a shady attorney. Having dealt with a double handful of them over the years, I know they'll screw illegals out of every dime with trickery, deceit and promises of 'advancing your case' and nothing ever comes of it. It's no wonder 'you people' charge in advance and not after winning a case....you rarely, if ever, win one. But, you'll screw an illegal out of his last dime just to file the common forms.
Stay tuned y’all. This going to be fun.
