Ryshonda Falls, Phil Wins, the Butch is Back
It's municipal election night, if anyone cares. There is a race for Mayor in Clinton. Will Ryshonda stay in office? Will Antar get more than 90% of the vote? Will more than 15,000 people vote in Jackson? Are there any other races of note? Fire away in the comments.
Update (8:55 PM): Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba will return to office but with "only" 69% of the vote as he received 10,000 fewer votes than in 2017.
Lumumba: 13,160 (69%)
Tannehill: 2,546 (13%)
Reeves: 1,697 (9%)
Lodree: 801 (4%)
Wells: 786 (4%)
Total number of votes: 18,990
2017 Election Results
Total number of votes: 25,016
Mayor Lumumba: 23,175 (92%)
Update (8:40 PM) : Pelahatchie Mayor Ryshonda Beechem lost but there was an unexpected surprise in the aldermen elections.
Meanwhile, Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher easily cruised to victory over Greg Cronin.

Ryshonda is toast!
Who gives a shit. Worse dreamer/mayor ever gets elected in a landslide because all qualified, intelligent blacks have left this cesspool/"city" for the same reasons white folks did years ago. Perfect narrative for the "progressives" as this shithole murders and poisons itself to death.
Fingers crossed that Charlotte can overcome the mudslinging and rise up to a runoff.
Baby Chokes' gonna win the same way he won before... too many challengers splitting up the opposition vote. My household voted for Tannehill but it looks like the spoiled little rich kid is gonna win again. He must be getting votes from the legion of do-nothing city employees who are no longer expected to work, but are still paid as if they were. That's the only explanation that makes sense. The low information "color in the bubble next to the "D" voters usually don't show up for a municipal-only election.
any word up in Canton?
Sad turnout across the board. But....to address your earlier comment which has been modified, Phil Fisher had NO legit opponent in Clinton. He has a stacked board working against him, but the voters overwhelmingly re-elected him. He'll manage this board like all previous boards. Meanwhile the Mormon from Utah will slink away for 4 years and continue filing homestead in Utah. He will miraculously appear in 4 years like Joseph Smith and try again, only to be run out of town just like Smith (Google it if you don't know how that turned out).
@8:57
Watch yourself talking shit about Mormons. They run the NSA datacenter in Utah.
chockwe wins, virgil wins and kenough wins...jackson wins!
Congratulations to the free citizens of the Town of Pelahatchie. Welcome back from hell.
Former Mississippi State Quarterback Todd Jordan elected Mayor of Tupelo. That city returns to Republican after eight years of a liberal Democrat mayor. Thank ya, Thank ya very much.
I hope Mayor Elect Jordan will get vaccinated for COVID. At the debate a couple of weeks age he said he had not done it
In the Pineapple city of Madison, Sandra Strain on her way to being the next Mayor of Madison.
Where can I get a Stokes hat?
9:05
Yeah, the economic powerhouse know as Pelahatchie has just been in hell only the past four years lol
Using I65 math Antard won nearly 93% of the vote.
Toby Barker has been reelected mayor of Hattiesburg in a landslide.
Maggie will be using beach balls for Chowkey's second term.
18,980 people total are estimated to have voted in the Jackson mayoral race tonight out of a city of over 160,000. I am hopeful that is a typo. If correct that tells you everything you need to know as to why Jackson is in its current situation.
For most of its history, Jackson was a city that used racism to operate. It did not matter who ran for Mayor because the citizens would never vote for African-Americans. Some decided rightly that this was wrong, and worked hard to take racism out of the equation. Now 60 years after the Civil Rights movement attempted to make everyone valued equally, racism has returned -- except this time it is racism that caused Lumumba to remain in office. Some that I talked to in the black community would not care if Hizzoner did a true day of work in his life, they are voting for him because he "is one of us." The track is set -- look up the history of any major Democrat-run city and you will see what happens when some voters vote for feelings instead of actually asking if the politician actually accomplishes anything.
Voter turnout in Jackson is appalling!
Sandra Strain will run against Mary Hawkins Butler the day after Nancy Pelosi endorses Donald Trump for President.
" Watch yourself talking shit about Mormons. They run the NSA datacenter in Utah."
They probably do, but that's OK.
Even at 59 or 60, Marie Osmond is still hot.
Keep electing the same incompetent racist mayor and expect different results.
That Keller guy pushed for free weed. Too bad. Virgi sucks.
"Baby Chokes' gonna win the same way he won before"
Did anyone think he wouldn't ?
I watched about 30 seconds of his victory speech on WLBT tonight.
The little boy mayor was actually yapping about the new "radical city" .
Chanel 3 then switched back to Maggie Wade in the studio.
She honestly looked like a little 12 year old girl fawning over her first "crush".
"Congratulations to the free citizens of the Town of Pelahatchie."
Have that changed locks over there tonight ?
I am going to miss the Dispatches from Pelahatchie. Always fun to read.
Now we will discover where she really resides.
For all of the blubbering about dead kids and not having water not even 13k people bothered to vote against the status quo. The city will get the leadership they deserve. The next time some loser in Eastover pretending to live in a civilized place is whining about their stolen car or lawnmower I'll ask them if their neighborhood even bothered to vote. Not even 13k people have had enough to even show up to vote? The whole population is complicit in the murder of a city.
No. Only those who voted for the status quo and those who didn’t bother to vote are complicit in the murder of Jackson. I voted for Tannehill realizing he wasn’t going to win. But I voted anyway because I realize you don’t reward a mayor with a second term with the problems Jackson has developed under his first term. Problems that have gotten progressively worse. Any mayor that holds a press conference fighting for a bar where murders have occurred to remain open does not deserve to be mayor any longer, especially where homicides have put Jackson on the map with the second highest rate of murders in the country. At some point you should lose your job. Perhaps, apathy has set in so deeply within the populace that they have become numb and shell shocked.
"18,980 people total are estimated to have voted in the Jackson mayoral race tonight out of a city of over 160,000. I am hopeful that is a typo. If correct that tells you everything you need to know as to why Jackson is in its current situation."
Well, let's see. Of that 160,000, probably 60,000 that are too young to vote. Add to that convicted felons aren't supposed to be able to vote. So yeah, I'd say a tad under 20,000 voters is an excellent turn out for The City with Soul.
Racism wins again in Canton.
Something tells me that Jackson election results are about as credible as Philadelphia and Atlanta. Wouldn’t be surprised if dumpsters are full of uncounted ballots this morning.
@10:26 PM
Wrong. Britney Spears is still hot at 40.
Marie “Botox” Osmond looks like the McDonalds Hamburgler.
Jackson must do something about the voter suppression laws!
Hey 4:51 last I checked their is a growing economy in Canton, growing tax revenue and Jobs. The voters must like it too. How is it where you live ?
10:21 PM are you sure about that? Rumor has it Mayor Mary will soon retire and they need someone like Sandra to become mayor.
Maybe Lamumba will get it right this time.
Hey 6:57
What about housing prices, white attendance at public schools, internal crime rate, etc. oh yeah, Gluckstadt thanks you for facilitating the process of becoming Madison county’s most elites died prominent city.
Those of you whining about the low turnout in Jackson don't understand that the Democratic Primary is the real election for Mayor. Everyone knows that and turn out for that race.. Whoever wins becomes Mayor and the general election is just a formality. This city will never again elect a Republican or Independent mayor. Won't happen. I only bother to vote in the general out of civic duty even though I know my guy/gal is going to get creamed.
When you subtract the convicted felons from the voter rolls, who can not vote in the city of Jackson, it actually was a very good voter turnout.
Racism wins on the local level and racism definitely wins on the state level in Mississippi….
"Hey 4:51 last I checked their is a growing economy in Canton, growing tax revenue and Jobs. The voters must like it too. How is it where you live ?" All the big money is just outside the city limits, not inside. Annexation just became reality and PD still only has 3 officers per shift with even more souls to look after. Truly did go on record wanting 20 more cops, but he is also on record about fixing the flooding and such after rains. Cars have become POS's and no prospect of being replaced. Yeah, we doing just fine up here.
The city of Canton was destroyed by graft and corruption caused by CMU. I still don’t know why there have not been indictments for some of the stunts by certain members of the board. Have the requests for reimbursement from several members been completed? It makes me sick to see what went on over the last 10 or so years. I paid my taxes and don’t like seeing my money “misappropriated.”
You know, when we moved home to Mississippi we found the quaint town of Pelahatchie and decided we would visit it often. Then the "shoot"outs at the OK City Hall began ( cept they weren't using shoot or aw shucks language) We were afraid we might be hit with flying stray verbiage so delayed our return. Can't wait till the next council meeting to see if it's safe again! Hey @11:16 what do you mean "where she lives?" Love all y'all.
Don't know anything about Pelahatchie alderman, just the mayor. What was surprising?
Mayor Ryshonda Harper Beechem statement:
"I would like to thank everyone who believed in me. Who trusted me and supported me. I will always love ❤️ you and I will never forget you. The ones who supported were so nice and kind to me and my family and we appreciate that greatly. Thank you to the ones who voted for me today and also to the ones who supported me and stood all day to campaign. I love ❤️ you for that. The last four years serving as the Mayor of Pelahatchie has been HELL for my family and myself. The treatment we endured, the mud slinging, the name calling, the threats, the lies, the intimidation, the constant attacks, the system completely FAILED me. I will never forget. I want to congratulate ALL.
NO JUSTICE.
The first African American Mayor of Pelahatchie and Rankin County,
Mayor Ryshonda Harper Beechem"

“We aren’t satisfied. It’s only a start. We want to build a movement that represents all of us," Lumumba said at an election-night party, according to the Clarion Ledger.
Does anyone know what the hell he's talking about? Does he?
@11:12a- What she doesn’t even realize is that SHE failed her self. Had she come in, swallowed a little pride, and worked WITH instead of against the board, she may have seen a different outcome. Her methods of circumventing the board and calling the press to vent in the earlier years led to the frustration from the board. They didn’t trust her. Her allowing her supporters to claim misappropriated money was “stolen” over and over and giving her credit for “returning stolen money.” Seriously... no money was “stolen” and the town essentially doubled up on free dollars... and they are still broke. She played too much petty politics for a town that size. She could have set the record straight about so much and failed to do so.
You can tell a lot about a person who puts “CPA Candidate” on their re-election poster. All I read was “couldn’t pass the CPA Exam.” And, her “knowledge” in multiple board meetings demonstrates why she remains a CPA candidate.
She seems to be in good spirits although she essentially called everyone who didn’t vote for her stupid through a meme. And her husband posted they won’t miss the $150, which she corrected to be $121, which is actually $250 minus deductions including insurance. The poor woman never understood this is not a full-time gig, even though she tried desperately to make it one. Wonder what will come of her lawsuit against the town for her demands in exaggerated back salary?
Interesting observation: I’ve watched a couple of brothers, who in my opinion cost Bo Luckey and Clay Weeks (in Brandon), and now Ryshonda their elections. One of the brothers is/was a fireman who runs two FB pages and the other just chimes in with constant negative junk. They play the nasty, subjective angle arguing their emotions instead of facts. They only get likes and comments from the same small circle of folks. It turns people off and I watched them, in real time, do more harm than good to those they claim to support. If I was a candidate, I’d tell the Adams brothers to take a hike!!
Why does the Clinton mayor have a city council that is hostile?
Wonder what the population of NE Jxn is? Particularly 39211?
A city of a 150,00 plus and less than 20,000 people voted!!! What a frikn joke Jackson is to the whole country......
The body count is going to be staggering......
Jackson residents, unfortunately, had few options. In my opinion, those who voted for Lumumba did so for a number of reasons (in spite of the many devastating challenges facing the city). Those reasons include: 1) he was best known and talks a good game for those who consider themselves disenfranchised; 2) he is already familiar with the issues at hand, so has a head start on MAYBE doing better this term; 3) "the devil you know is better than the one you don't" philosophy. The challenges facing Jackson are so monumental, I can think of no Democrat or Republican with the necessary combination of integrity, wisdom, business acumen, and concern about people, that could make a significant dent in combating the issues at hand. One whose agenda is to improve and maintain a satisfactory quality of life for all its citizenry. If such a person comes forward, he or she would likely win. At least people would have an option. Otherwise, Jackson will continue to mirror all the ills and results of failed leadership that are/and have been prevalent in our country for some time. God help us all, since we don't seem to have the chutzpah and wisdom to help ourselves.
4:14 calm down Dogg, you scaring the hoes.
Not only did Toby Barker get reelected in Hattiesburg with 85% of the vote, he won every precinct in the city, including the infamous Rowan precinct. If you recall, the Rowan ballot box was an issue in the 2013 DuPree vs. Ware mayoral election.
Speaking of Dave Ware, he ran for his old council seat and defeated the incumbent, so he will be returning to the Hattiesburg City Council.
From Hattiesburg.....
Our mayor got re-elected and even though I think he is a first rate d-bag he is doing a better job that the opposition would have. we are still holding on to a good city down here and I hope we can not let it go the way of Jackson.
@4:14 Did you write that baby Chuky or did one of your staff? I know who did not and that is Kenneth "Boo Boo" Stokes.
I gots to get a Stokes hat
@9:55
Why don't you have a Stokes hat made? It shouldn't be that hard.
"10:21 PM are you sure about that? Rumor has it Mayor Mary will soon retire and they need someone like Sandra to become mayor."

One hopes not. Mary is keeping a lot of people in Mississippi, who would otherwise have fled. The miracle she wrought in Madison, delayed our family's departure from Mississippi, for nearly a decade. The day she steps-down, will be the day many of the state's remaining movers/shakers/job-makers start preparing their homes for sale. The younger ones have already been networking in places where they want to continue their careers. ALL decided, long ago, where they're going. NONE of the places to which they'll flee, are anywhere near Mississippi.
