Tired of the drag racing in Northeast Jackson? The JPD Precinct Commander has a suggestion: Get a tag number. The Northside Sun reported Precinct 4 Commander Obie Wells
encourages anyone to report incidents of speeding and drag racing they may experience. If possible, give the make and model of the vehicles involved, tag numbers and the location and time, he said.
It's ok to call and make a report, even if you think JPD won't make it in time to catch the offender.
We can't be everywhere at one time." Wells said. With information from the public, we can come up with a plan. One thing we ca do is get help from our traffic division. I can get them to set up radar in the area. Rest of article.
Yes, Commander. It is an easy task to get a tag number when someone flies by your vehicle.
Um, how is this for an idea. Most of the drag racing and suicide speeding is taking place on Old Canton Road. Guess where the precinct is? Old Canton Road. Perhaps the Commander should have some of his officers do something as complicated as...... drum roll..... sit in their parking lot and just listen. These cats are high-tailing it right past the police station in full view of everyone. Just follow your damn ears. These clowns literally broadcast their speeding with their thunderous exhausts. Like most Jackson criminals, they have no fear of the police whatsoever.
As for radar, its pretty simple. Just set them up on Lenox on Ridgewood, Atkins around the bend where Concord is, or somewhere off of Old Canton Road. There are plenty of streets on Old Canton Road such as Kaywood or River Thames that are ideal for such traps.
This is not hard.

What a novel idea, write down the tag number! I wonder why no one without police training ever thought about this. At least this proves that all that money spent on training is paying off.
Hard enough to get a tag number if they're sitting still since most have black plexiglas and plastic chains over the tag.
That suggestion from the PoPo is silly. In order for action to be taken, one would have to show up and swear out a complaint, sign it and appear. Who the hell will do that when even the cops don't give a rat's?
How y'all liking Jacktown so far? Electing the same people (or people with the same mindset) over and over again and expecting different results is known as insanity.
Maybe setting up cameras along Old Canton Rd. that connect to the "Real Time Crime Center" would deter crime. Bwa ha ha.
i thought co-co with the po-po was supposed to fix all that
Why doesn't someone build a race track/park in Jackson for people to legally race. Memphis, New Orleans, and Baton Rogue all have racing facilities. Why can't Jackson?
An alternative would be to watch them, observe the speeds they drive, learn from them and then go about your day knowing you COULD drive like that, if you weren’t scared, lazy or have nothing to do that day.
Why not just open the fairgrounds parking lot for racers and charge a couple of bucks per car for entry? The pot holes would serve as speed bumps.
9:07 - Why bother? Old Canton Road is a racetrack and no entry fee is required.
8:14 - so you're another one who things all the bad things that happen in Jackson are the fault of city leaders. Here's a news flash for you - it's a meltdown within a culture. And I don't care who you put in city hall, they ain't gonna change a damn thing when trying to deal with this situation.
"Hard enough to get a tag number if they're sitting still since most have black Plexiglas and plastic chains over the tag." If the cops weren't so lazy they could enforce those issue. I direct you to Section 2 paragraph 4. All the above plus some is included.
§ 27-19-31. License tags or plates and renewal license decals; issuance and duration; contents; fastening to vehicles; county designation on license tags; defaced tags and decals.
In regards to alternative lights, a pet peeve of mine.
§ 63-7-20. Use of blue and red lights and alternating flashing headlights.
If cops made stops and issued tickets, it may slow things a bit, but laziness is the new code word in Law Enforcement. It may be interfering with chasing ass and such.
I was stopped in Jackson for having a trailer hitch on my pickup.
The cop said it blocked my tag. I moved out of Jackson to a place where cops could see the tag with the trailer ball still on it,
I've met with this commander. He's a moron compared with the ones before him.
They race down Livingston Rd behind the Medical Mall every weekend. They also do it daily during the middle of the day. My company's parking lot is filled with trash and tire marks every Monday. We called the police and they didn't do shit. Why? Because they don't care.
Stated another way, "How to look like you are doing your job while actually doing nothing."
Y'all know 10:09 is dead-on, right?
@10:38 - who brought up lights?
Also, I like stop sticks.
JPD could care less about at all the concerned citizen call ins to report this crap. I'm sure they log onto the Next Door app for some laughs. I live off Ridgewood and hear drag racing all day very day.
@10:09 AM - after reflection, you are probably correct. Jackson has the best mayor that money can buy.
Yes 10:09 is exactly right. I'm actually surprised KF let that comment go up, he must have been preoccupied with something else.
Which section of Old Canton are they racing on? The section from I-55 to the Walgreens by Whole Foods or from Walgreens north to County Line?
I encourage everyone that lives in Jackson that is tired of the racing to buy dashcams. Not only will you protect yourself from liability but you can also get license plate numbers off them. Get yourself a front and rear camera. Minimum 1080p resolution. Ideally 4k.
The city needs more deep potholes. Guaranteed to slow them down or take out the rear axle.
Not possible to have more potholes in Jackson?
Oh ... Sorry ... My bad.
@2:26 PM any specific dashcams you like?
Officer Obie? What?!
Obie looked at the seeing-eye dog
And Obie realized the judge, even though not blind, but wearing "colored" glasses, wasn't going to look at the 27 gigabytes of dash cam video with the freeze frames, close ups and circles and arrows.
Glad all the manhole covers are in place.
Is there a law about dark windows? I thought there was, but I see cars all over the place with totally blacked out windows
6:28 PM
Sorry for getting back so late, but Reddit's Dashcam subreddit has a good list on the side at various price points: https://old.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/
Dual cams are obviously more expensive. But will pay for itself if you ever get in an accident.
Wow you people are ridiculous. If you feel like you could do a better job then go get certified and do the job. See the reason you feel the way you do is because he is a black man. But instead of criticism go down to the all those politicians that also have a say so in city and advised them to help as well. Because one fact that I do know is the law is the same its just how you enforce them dum dum.but soon as one of you or your family member get a ticket its a problem. You people are pathetic. So before you call others names look at yourself.
10:43 - Thanks for chiming in. You're just another bottom dweller who, after every criticism, throws down the race card rather than deal with the problem. And I'm saying this only because you're black, right? And I knew that how?
Well one things is (and this is solely an opinion based of what I’ve seen in the past) if you set up radar in attempts to catch and ticket these “speed demons” you are probably at a >90% chance of possibly provoking a pursuit. Then you cause them (through really their own fault) to run into and possibly maim or kill an innocent citizen. Now you’ve got the other citizens in an uproar for doing the job. So the way I see it, you’re dang if you do and you’re dang if you don’t.
