The video shows who was the aggressor. The person that was shot literally crossed over the property line to pursue a confrontation, and did not let up. Sure the video left out how it all started, but a terrible outcome nonetheless.

I asked an LEO once why mugshots of African Americans often portray such disheveled hair. He informed me it is because they always disassemble their elaborate hair extensions during intake.

This’ll be an interesting test case to see if the hillbilly gun culture will defend this guy like they did the shooters in Trayvon, Arberry, et al. where the victims were black. In all cases a scuffle turned deadly, and there’s a legitimate claim of self defense. Meanwhile the key lesson will continue to escape us. If you bring a gun to what should be a fistfight, things get lethal.

Did the Castle Law get extended to one's property that the house is on? If so, would this young man be covered by this? The neighbor appears to come onto his property in a very threating manner and attack him.

The video will clear him. He was passive until other guy put him in an headlock. This one doesn't fit the narrative.

I watched the video on WAPT's page.

We do not know what caused the argument and that's totally irrelevant.

The white guy did cross onto the black guy's property.

The white guy did escalate the argument by being confrontational, raising his arms in an attempt to scare the black guy, and repetitively suggesting (non verbally perhaps as well as verbally) that he wanted to fight.

The video does not show or suggest what actually immediately led to wrestling since both had walked out of range.

The headlock, shown on video, did NOT occur on the property of the black guy but was right up next to the house of the white guy.

The wrestling continues until another person attempts to separate them or at least get them to stop wrestling.

The guy who video taped the wrestling clearly states that AFTER the wrestling had stopped, the black guy pulled a gun and shot the white guy four times.

Would seem to me that the confrontation was basically over and the black guy's life was not threatened at the point at which he drew and fired the weapon. But, that's for a jury to decide, not Facebook Phantoms.

of all the neiborhoods on the north side of spillway road in rankin county this area of brendalwood drive is the worst. it qualifies as a true hood. its behind spillway gas station and the mostly abandoned reservoir square shopping center where the old jitney jungle used to be.
its a big collection of duplexes loaded with......you guessed it .......renters.
and these renters are classic. lots of junk cars, litter thrown everywhere, pit bulldogs, junkies, cars with canister mufflers, white trash, african american gansta thugs, cars parked in yards, utility trailers , expired tags, dilapidated duplexes, cars parked in the street, a regular renters paradise on the rankin riveria.
our esteemed former governor phil bryant's home is right on the north edge of this hood. this whole thing needs to be bulldozed.
no matter how hard property owners will work to make a rankin county neiboorhood livable and increase property values, this element of rankin county trash will always present itself. like the doublewide trailer, its ingrained in the DNA of rankin county.

look for this one to go national. fancy lawyers for the defendant (at no charge), social media BLM support (organized protests in brandon), gun rights (or was it an illegal firearm?), black/white shooting with video..it’s all there!

the smart thing to do would be:
investigate for a few weeks
release the entire video

if the firearm is illegal- charge him for that
charge him for running from the law

if there’s any way a reasonable person could see this as self-defense, don’t prosecute for manslaughter or murder at all. it would be a summer of protests (with buses and buses of blm and antifa) in rankin county all summer. a powder keg of ferguson style protest in downtown brandon.

if it’s clear he was shot in the back, be very up front with that. that fact will hold off a large scale BLM protest, but probably not a few more peaceful demonstrations.

video of these scuffles adds a new dimension- everyone can see a glimpse as to what happened. this one should be handled gently and deliberately

the kid backed down, then was tackled, then shot the guy in the front and the back (according to the witness) probably as the guy ran away after the kid drew a weapon.

Missing how the physical contact 'laying on hands' started between the houses but their seems to a witness. White guy I agree escalating.
If after a wrestling match ended, they separated. Could be seen as a reset. Isn't this a reset, white guy could have even regained legal innocence. Clear the younger guy introduced deadly force, then he he fled, got picked up later, does not help you seem innocent to run.
Hard to claim self defense if you are the guy that should have won the 'hands on' match and then shot a unarmed older fatter guy 'four' times. Wasn't drilling one hole enough?

8:33 AM. You are correct in your observations of that area. Most of what you mention is in violation of zoning codes. If PRV and Rankin County would get off their asses, hire a couple of code enforcement officers and start enforcing these violations a lot of the riff raff would find other places to crib up. There are people who live in that area who work hard to maintain their properties.

I'd have to see the whole video. WLBT only showed a confrontation on a porch and wrestling on the ground. Of course I don't expect broadcast news to show it all. Will probably have to find it on liveleak or somewhere like that. Did it happen at the shooter's house? There could be a reasonable case of self defense, but this is light on facts.

sad part is a person is dead because no one has the sense to just walk away. Another person faces a lengthy prison sentence over something completely avoidable. we are just commenters. we will post and then go on with life. but for at least two families, the dynamics will never be the same.

most of our society issues are not black/white issues or Jackson vs Madison/Rankin. Our problem is a failure for people to think things clearly out and do the right thing or be the bigger person and walk away. It's cool to talk about this happening in Jackson until reality shows us it can happen in our backyard. The Christian in really wants to say this is why we need Jesus in our hearts. All you people saying 'he was tackled' are full of it. The video does not show initial contact and certainly no tackling. The camera lost them as they moved between the houses and later picked up as they were entertwined on the ground. The most salient point is that the physical confrontation had STOPPED when the yoot decided to shoot the neighbor.

Do some reading on self-defense. It doesn’t meet all the elements even with the video. If witness statements say they were separated, it’s murder. It’s manslaughter at a minimum.

The Castle Doctrine has been used as a defense when a clerk shot a man driving away after theft of alcohol.

4:05 - I 'know it' because that's what the witness said. The witness said the wrestling had stopped and the two were separated. Goober, indeed.

One clown says the man tackled the boy yet there is no video evidence of that.

Next clown says the man followed the boy and tackled him yet the wrestling occurred on the property of the man, not the residence where the Vicksburg boy was visiting.

Another clown says the man was beating the boy who shot him.

None of the clowns saw any of that on the video.

Unless the witness changes his story or suddenly 'can't recall what he saw and earlier reported, the wrestling had CONCLUDED (that means ended for those of you in Jackson)when the boy pulled the gun out of his warmup bottoms and shot the man four times.

As an aside, I would guess that even the castle doctrine (not that it's applicable) does not apply to a person standing outside on property that doesn't belong to you.

middle aged white man with questionable social media posts hates having black neighbors and was looking for a fight. kid shot in self defense and ran from the scene because he was scared. ditched the gun because that’s what he saw on tv. scared he was going to be killed by police like george floyd.
