2,746 new cases
First Consul Tate Reeves announced a new round of Covid-19 restrictions at a press conference he is holding right now. It is streamed below.
Governor Reeves said there is a "tremendous Covid-19 spread" around the country. He said there will be a new posture. He urged everyone to mask up and stay away from large gatherings. Indoor social gatherings are limited to 10 people indoors and 50 people outdoors.
Masks are required in schools where social distancing is not possible.
Indoor sports venues for K-12 extracurricular events will be limited to the lesser of four spectators per student participant or 250 ticketed spectators. Other indoor arenas will be limited to the lesser of ten percent seating capacity or 1,000 attendees.
The Governor warned he would step up enforcement and eliminate elective procedures if the pandemic does not improve.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 2,746 new cases today and 24 deaths between December 4 and 8. There are 4,041 total Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. However, the real concern is hospital capacity. The big chart tells the grim story.
State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said nursing home workers and residents will get the first vaccines in Mississippi.

If the governor is serious about leading on this issue, then he needs to announce the cancellation of the Christmas parties he has been planning.
How is this possible if he was wearing the mask?
he's a 'do as i say' not a 'do as i do' kind of leader.
governor's christmas parties are more important than ours anyway. why should we get together in a pandemic? lawmakers need their free booze, food, and whatever the sun and sand used to do to get by...
But, but, the Rodeo...
Why must we continue to do the same things the same way and expect a different outcome? The mask does not work to protect from this disease. Los Angeles has been under a mask mandate for months and their Covid cases are skyrocketing. The first thing the covidiots will say is that no one is wearing their mask. That is not so. It is estimated that %95 of citizens are following the mask, distancing, and limit on gathering mandates. These things are not working.
@3:12
Face coverings help prevent him from spreading it. To be most effective, the face coverings have to be universal. Too many freeDUMB trumpTARDS walk around leaving clouds full of their sputum and saliva for others to breath and to collect on the face coverings that are being reused and worn far too long. The problem is the same as it always is. The problem is willfully ignorant Mississippians.
@3:25
If you think there is a 95% compliance rate with mask and distance protocols in L.A. , I have some ocean front property in New Mexico to sell you.
@3:25pm - An estimated 95% chance your statistics are bullshit. See? I can do it too.
As everywhere, It's good to be King.
Wear a mask. Avoid large indoor gatherings (Church, House Parties, Sports). Its really not that hard.
Virus gonna virus...it doesn't give a rip about your protective measures
I’m going to church.
3:25. You are exactly right. Unless it an N95, a mask will only reduce your output of aerosol not eliminate it. So most masks are of limited value.
According to what I've read, 90% of cases in the USA are from when people eat, drink, or sing in the same room.
If we would avoid restaurants, bars, singing in church, and stay home if we feel a little sick, Covid-19 would not be overwhelming our health care right now.
But...I want to eat in a place Friday night, drink my beer while I watch SEC football on Saturday, sing loudly on Sunday, and I'll be at work on Monday unless I can't get out of bed..
And let's face it: pandemic. A million or more people may die in the USA, with 4-5 million in the rest of the world. It sucks-but pandemics happen and people die.
I haven't stopped living. 2020 has been a great year. Incredible uncrowded beach vacation, weekly discovery of new restaurants via take out dining, great performances of music (live and recorded) streamed right to my house, expanded online shopping and mostly empty stores for in person shopping, getting together with friends and family in backyards, and the list goes on and on...it's been amazing.
2021-I'll keep wearing the mask. I'll get the vaccine when I can. And I'll watch even less news networks. Give that a try in 2021. You may be happier for it...
@4:24pm - Yep, in a casket.
"If the governor is serious about leading on this issue, then he needs to announce the cancellation of the Christmas parties he has been planning".
He said the guest protocol was being changed to meet his new guidelines.
Why are you bitter ?
Did you not receive an invitation ?
During the next governor's race, anyone who runs against Reeves will bring up his private parties, the piecemeal approach to face masks (now at 61 of the 82 counties - thank goodness Sharkey and Issaquena counties are safe), dismissing physicians as "so-called experts" because he knows what is best for us, etc. One can just imagine the political commercials with Reeves dressed as Nero.
Whether you voted for Trump or not (I voted for Trump), most agree that Trump lost the presidential election because of his mishandling of the pandemic with mixed messages and misinformation. Could Reeves face a similar situation?
@4:46 yeah cuz...that virus hates it some Christians...only places it is terrified to enter are Walmart, Kroger etc...oh and mostly peaceful riots and looting...virus won't go near them...I will also continue to go to church...faith over fear...but you do you, k?
PS I already had it...so there's that
@2:52 laws for thee but not for me
#spreadIt
3:25 - how naïve. Do you honestly believe that 95% of the people of LA are wearing a mask and social distancing? I doubt you could say that about any large metropolitan area much less LA.
OK, so if masks don't work and COVID is spreading uncontrolled I guess the only thing left to do is shut businesses down where people can gather. Bars, nightclubs, restaurants, churches, shopping, everything.
You can't stop people from being stupid and going over to each other's houses, but you can take away as many options as possible.
Reeves has no club. Won’t recognize him as our governor. He preaches social distancing and not attend large gatherings but yet he wants his parties. Can’t respect this guy. He cares nothing for our state or country. Whether you’re democratic or republic, you can’t criticize someone when you haven’t done a fucking thing since you’ve been in office.
Where's any comment about the MEMA Director.
I don't know whether Tate has a club. It's apparent, however, that he doesn't have a 'clue'.
Finally a new hearing impaired sign language person that looks neat and has clean hair.
Naïve? I was told in no uncertain terms that the liberal shitholes were centers of education and enlightenment that always followed the "science". Only uneducated uncouth rednecks didn't follow the "science". Mask work to limit the virus the same way a screen door limits the wind. You talking about gullible, you liberals take the cake. You continue to scream that the same useless measures are working when the number of covid cases continue to rise nation wide. A vaccine or herd immunity will stop this, nothing else.
Y'all throw around "herd immunity" without knowing how it really works. Do some research. Do you want to kill off your parents, other seniors, the ill, so that you can survive? It's the Darwin method.
"Herd immunity" became a buzz word early on, and is thrown around by the ignorant.
I have been neutral so far in regards to Gov. Tate, but allowing these Christmas parties is very irresponsible and hypocritical.
If trying to look like a teenager isn't enough reason to not take this guy seriously...Then Christmas parties, state fairs, rodeos and attending unmasked, group gatherings in DC are sufficient.
But...Merry Merry from Delbrick's family to yours! (another contribution to Supertalk for Shad to consider)....
The ignorant definitely throw it around, ain't that right 2:09?
@3:22 PM - yes, indeed.
Jesus Christ, what a fucking group. Some day a real problem will come along and I wonder how you will handle it.
From the CDC data briefs:
Deaths from all causes in 2015: 2,712,630
Deaths from all causes in 2016: 2,744,248
Deaths from all causes in 2017: 2,813,503
Deaths from all causes in 2018: 2,839,205
Deaths from all causes in 2019: 2,855,000
Deaths from all causes in 2020: 2,168,098 (up until end of Sept).
Year end projection of deaths from all causes: 2,818,527
If you're scared of killing grandma or whatever, please stay home and do not attend any of Tate Reeve's Christmas parties (not that you were invited anyway).
