Update: Governor files notice of appeal, seeks stay of order.
The Legislature won a round against the Governor. Hinds County Chancellor Tiffany Grove voided Governor Tate Reeves' partial vetoes of two sections in a bill passed by the Legislature. The Chancellor ruled:
Based upon the pleadings submitted herein, the Constitution and case law, the Court finds that the Partial Veto was part of a condition; therefore, according to the Mississippi Constitution of 1890 and almost 100 years of case law interpreting our State's Constitution, Governor Reeves' Partial Veto was unconstitutional. A Governor's unconstitutional attempt of a partial veto is a nullity. See Holder, 23 So. 643. Accordingly, H.B. 1782 became law, in its entirety as passed by the Legislature. The opinion just came down and is posted below.

Just veto the whole bill.
Getting out the popcorn and waiting for the stupid, "Reeves ought to be able to veto whatever and however he wants" comments.
Judge Tiffany Grove is one of the youngest and brightest judges Mississippi is fortunate to having on the Chancery Court bench. The citizens of Hinds County got that vote right.
I smell corruption!
No surprise the Democrat judge sided with the Democrat House. Let's see what the Supreme Court says.
This will be appealed. Hate to see Gunn think he won a victory. Heard him at length on Gallo today. If anybody is more arrogant, opinionated and pompous than Gunn, it's Paul Gallo.
check her upcoming campaign finance report, look for Josh Gregory on that damn thing for sure!!!
I agree with 2:38. Tiffany Grove is not only a very bright judge, she is pragmatic, compassionate and a really good person!
You see what happens when you bend over for radical leftists? That's right, they chop your fuggin head off! The POTUS keeps falling in the same trap! Don't try to meet them half way! Don't give concessions to the political minority when they can't even win if they are honest about their ideology!
Not a surprise here - Governor never expected to win in a Hinds County Chancery Court. Both sides knew all along this would be going to the Supremes where they at least look at the law before they rule.
Tiffany is FAR from a Tate supporter or crony
I'm no lawyer. But, I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. If you read the Constitution regarding line item vetoes, it's hard to imagine the precedent set by the court years ago was anything other that a political shot at a Governor that the court didn't like. The language of the Constitution seems clear to me that the Governor can issue line item vetoes.
" Much Ado About Nothing" . . .
(except wasting tax dollars in a pissing contest).
Gov. Reeves is more savvy than people think.
Gunn and Hosemann took the bait, "threw a fit" . . . and filed an expensive lawsuit.
I really believe the Governor knew that he would loose in court, but he accomplished his objective.
Gunn and Hosemann might be gain more political points if they join Andy Gipson at the biscuit booth
when the State Fair opens in a day or two.
@ 3:02 PM
"democratic house"? I think you need a civics lesson. You are confusing the (federal) Congress with the State legislature.

Not on an Appropriations Bill. Say what you will about Gunn but he doesn’t put up with any would be overreach.
Please learn you some spelling. Lose and Loose are not the same. English teachers you need to " dues" better learning these young folks some spelling. Pass the biscuits please.

Appeal the Constitution? Ok
Since when are compassion and pragmatism what we look for in a judge? Oh, wait...3:34 also tell us she's a bright and good person. I do hope he's not writing political ads.
4:10,
Maybe you should join Farmer Andy and bring your ten gallon hat, because Dilbert did not join the Speakuh. He went at it alone. Dilbort saw the wisdom in staying the hell out of the 3rd grade pissing contest.
You rube.
@ 5:15 PM.
Sorry sport, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
All I can say is go back and watch Hosemann's interviews.
He was caught off guard to say the least.
What's amazing is if a Judge issues a ruling, somebody doesnt agree with, the trolls who have no knowledge of the law automatically criticize and name call them. Judge Groove is an excellent Judge. She followed the law, or least her interpretation of the law, which is what Judges are suppose to do. She needs to be on the Court of Appeals or Supreme Court. Yes, she is from Hinds County, and she is a white female. She was elected because she is qualified. This opinion shows the voters of Hinds County got it right.
3:34, educate yourself before you make comments. Judges are not allowed to raise money except for a limited time when they are actually running for office. Perhaps you should apologize to Judge Grove.
Hard to believe that Lonesome Lynn Fitch is defending Tater.
Who is the prosecutor for Gunn and Filbert?
Lonesome, lost, clueless, old looking.
Here is another perspective to consider for all of you slobbering on Tiffany Groove. I had the misfortune of dealing indirectly with her when she represented a family member of mine that out of greed contested another family members will. Ms. Groove was rude, arrogant and ill-prepared throughout this entire ordeal. What I learned from this disgusting two year charade is that "ironclad" wills don't mean diddly squat, do they Tiffany?
8:24,
That is what I am talking about. When she does raise money I bet you will see Josh Gregory's name on it. Not a knock at the judge, more of a haha from Josh to Tate.
@7:45 sounds like Chancellor Grove had the will declared invalid, so it couldn’t have been “iron clad.” You seem pretty pissed at your opposition’s lawyer which is an indicator the lawyer did his or her job. You should really be pissed at the lawyer who drafted the not so “iron clad” will, the lawyer who represented the estate in the will contest, or the family member who exercised undue influence over the deceased (which may have been yourself).
Why didn't Tate bow to the law, but just declare his concerns publicly instead of trying to pull a move he couldn't legally sustain? He needs to get the best legal advice and follow it. He also needs to cover his face and mandate others do so until the pandemic is well and truly over.
@7:45 am. So she was a good lawyer too. She won for her client. Got it.
