Old Canton Road Work Starts Monday

The city of Jackson issued the following statement.

City of Jackson Public Works crews will start to mill and level Old Canton Road from State Street to Meadowbrook Road starting next week Monday, November 2nd. This will continue at least for the next two weeks weather permitting. Drivers should avoid the area if possible. Also drivers should make sure to slow down during construction and for the safety of the workers.

The completed State Street project and this project have been operating at warp speed. Unlike those nitwits who took two years to finish Ridgewood Road.

Criminals fleeing the suburbs to return to Jackson, should choose an alternate route.

Couldn't have done this in the summer when the two schools in that stretch were out of session. No no that would make too much sense for Jackson.

This project takes priority as it is traveled daily by Mayor Baby Chok to/from home in his unmarked JPD driven city car.

Figured you guys could figure out a way to whine about this. Wha, wha, wha!

I bet it won't be finished as fast as the repair to Freedom Corner (see WAPT's website).

Amazing what can be done when someone wants to do it.

Sour people on this thing.

Y’all go get laid

Geez! You whine about how the city's falling apart, but when they start working on it you whine about the work they're doing. Do you hear yourselves?

Only in an election season can you count on shit getting done.

Right lane headed north on Old Canton desperately needs this.

For all the bitching ---

Old Canton was one of fifteen streets included in two contracts; one that included primarly NE and downtown Jackson and the other including South and West Jackson streets.

There was some logic in the order of the streets which evidently doesn't satisfy some of the JJ crew of bitchers; the contractor started at outer end with Pear Orchard; moved to those around Canton Mart; then Northside Drive; followed by Lakeland. Old Canton was next in line to be followed by Jefferson Street.

OCR was not done because of anyone's particular route, but because of the traffic, its condition, and it being a major arterial road.

At the same time, several streets in South Jackson have been underway - parts of McDowell, Oak Forest, Belvedere (all serving JPS schools), Bailey Avenue and Gallatin Street.

To say that it is due to being an election year ignores the $20 million in work that was done last year. Frankly the timing has much more to do with the 1% sales tax money finally getting put to use in a more timely fashion than the coming election, although next year will see another $30 million or so under construction.

I agree with 3:26 - what is there really to whine about here?

State St from Fondren to Medowbrook is still one way, That is not completed.

Can someone translate "2 weeks" for me? Does that mean 2 months? Spring?

Winter is coming.

(Sorry to quote Ned Stark)

But as usual, pipes will freeze and burst all over that city within the next few months.
Repaving anything will stop. Jackson Officials will (as usual) blame White Mayors that were in office during the 1960s.

If the Jacksonians are lucky, I predict this project might be finished by August/September 2021.

4:57 - two different projects.

State Street from Fondren to old Cherokee is a twenty million, three year project totally rebuilding the road.

State Street from Woodrow Wilson to Fortification is a five million, six month project that resurfaced the roadbed and fixed the sidewalks and curbs to fit ADA requirements.

The one referenced above was the second - which was finished in five or so months. The first one is running behind schedule but when finished will be much more than just a new surface - it includes the replacement of water, sewer and storm drainage while also rebuilding the road bed underneath.

I agree with 6:00-10/30. In about 6 months, this newly paved road will be buckling and sinking largely because of the stuff under it that is 100 years old. The new road will look like the old in short order.

Geez, if y'all want to whine about something, go drive along all those new frontage roads in Madison north of old agency. Road ways have are now like roller coasters, curb and gutters are shattering and buckling, asphalt is splitting apart, and the erosion and sliding of the banks of the I-55 road bed is alarming. Old Canton Road has not been resurfaced since the late 80's or early 90's (best of my memory) and it has made it 30 years! That crap MDOT job has not even made it 10 years

Only jacktown would issue a press statement about paving a road. Its called normal city business in most other towns . Course it is a rarity here.

Old Canton runs into and from Jackson? Had totally forgotten in the four years I've avoided Jackson altogether. Some of you are still trapped there, bitching about bitching. That has to feel awkward.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
