C19 Update: Are We in the Second Wave?

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 795 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 7 new deaths. The total number of cases is 113,876. The virus has caused 3,238 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 97,675 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt value is 0.93.

The big chart is worse than it was a few weeks ago.

However, deaths are declining.  No surprise as better treatments and therapies become available.

Nope. We are being set up for Sleepy Joe to act as a hero in about 3-4 weeks.

Vents are linear. Until that significantly rises, I don't see the rate of deaths rising.

My fear reserves have been exhausted and I'm pretty numb to it now. While 220k Americans dead is tragic, more have died in traffic and we still drive our cars over the speed limit. Time to trat Covid-19 likw the flu and move on to the next crisis. There is no dead horse left to beat.

MSDH needs to go back to reporting STD's. C-19 is not that big of a deal anymore.

Yikes, the cold is coming back.

I guess I must not understand the impact of the Rt on case proliferation. I was under the impression that if the Rt was less than 1, we'd see declining cases. However, the state of MS has been below 1.0 for a couple months now, and the cases have been pretty steady / increasing.

Anyone have a good explanation on Rt?

Bubba Ain't A Gonner Wear No Mask!

"Over the summer, the majority of people dying from the coronavirus in Mississippi were Black. In recent months, however, the state has “seen a pretty remarkable shift,” state epidemiologist Thomas Dobbs told CNN on Thursday. White people now account for the largest share of new infections and fatalities — possibly because they’ve been more skeptical of social distancing and masks, he said.

Broadly speaking, the Black community appears to have embraced mask-wearing and social distancing, “and it may well be because they were hit so hard and have personal experience,” Dobbs said. But health officials haven’t seen the same level of adherence to such measures among “other segments of the population.”

Good job, Cletus!!! You done showed that Virus who's Boss and you ain't a gonna let the Commuh-nists show you no Science!!! Andy Gipson must be a Proud Boy!!!!

1:20, so More Americans have, secretly, died in traffic accidents in 9 months than Covid????

So, with 7,780 first quarter and 8,870 second quarter, where did the Alien controlling your mind come up the the other 200,000 traffic deaths???

Lies, disinformation, and denial. The schizos are posting furiously.

No, Bubba. Annual traffic deaths are around 36,000 a year. And, Bubba, folks are driving less this year. Math-try it.

I guess some of us just need to accept the fact that we are easily expendable. And apparently we should be proud to just slip away to remove our useless asses from the SS entitlement trough..... Take one for the Team, so to speak.

More like a third wave. The second wave hit big after Tater went for broke around Memorial Day and opened absolutely everything back up. Starting late June you saw cases, hospitalizations, and deaths going up like a rocket.

Maybe Summer helped, maybe the masks worked, but since the end of August we've seen a dramatic drop in COVID activity up until the last 10 days or so. The reality is we are going to see the same things almost every other state is seeing with increasing activity.

Thanksgiving and Christmas will be huge this year for spread. It is family and friend gatherings that is spreading it now, particularly among Whites, according to Dr. Dobbs. My coworker had a family gathering a couple of weeks ago and 75% of the attendees got COVID along with other family members they visited later. All it takes is one person to cause over 100 to get it.

Conversely, Mary a soul has died from Flu, heart attacks or cancer.

just like a cold..right...

people with colds clog the health care system. stroke--no room today. try tomorrow. heart attack-better hope that aspirin worked, no room in the er in your rural community. car wreck--your family can 'one call thats all' while you bleed out...

how little we think of others fate. its as if none of this matters unless it happens to you.

"Anyone have a good explanation on Rt?" Sounds good at cocktail parties but really don't mean shit in the long run. People will get a Cold/Covid with or without a vaccine. Very high survival rate which has more meaning than Rt. Deaths, well, people die from many many things.

Let's all cheer for 2 more weeks!!

Seriously, this is just more of the same - the more you test, the more positive tests you get. Positive tests include those who still have fragmentary rna from covid up to 12 weeks old. There are also a number of false positives. Positive tests are not cases.

This oandemic has been over for quite a while.

I used to be really concerned about COVID. I stocked up and everything. I'm not anymore. Masks are just for show-virtue signaling political statements. Prove me wrong.

" Tater went for broke around Memorial Day and opened absolutely everything back up."

Just wondering . . . would you rather everything had remained closed ?

Thousands of folks remaining out of work ?

The Unemployment Insurance Program still overwhelmed as never before in the history of our Nation ?

Little kids scared shitless ?

I will never understand the thought process of liberals.

@ 2:20 You are free to stay home every day if you like. Nobody is making you do anything. Just as you have a personal choice as how much you want to hunker down and I respect that, please respect my choice to go on with life. If we are free to all make our own decisions and take responsibility for ourselves, we all can be happy.

As for your reference to the SS trough, I understand you presumably paid into the system. Unfortunately, politicians have bought votes with these monies over the years and continue to hold it over our heads to get another vote when their irresponsibility has caused the issue. That said, we are where we are and I along with many others have to go to work to pay into the system so there is money there to pay the benefit you earned. I wish you all the best!

Sure it spreads again, because all are equal, unless you are rich, then you are more equal and can do whatever you want. I post it again, though with the newest numbers: JA and Prep again not reporting any COVID numbers. They opened up without any restrictions, spreading the virus...

4:08 The choice to reopen businesses was not an all-or-nothing decision. Most businesses could have resumed operation with things like bars, nightclubs, events, and gatherings still restricted.

That's the problem with a lot of Mississippians, they can't think about complex things and simply default to a yes/no mentality.

Anonymous said...

@4:19pm - If only it were as easy as “taking responsibility for ourselves,” to get through this. You do understand when you’re walking around the grocery store without a mask on, unknowingly infecting others with Covid, someone poor soul in a nursing home may end up dead because of your “taking responsibility for yourself” mindset. The person you unknowingly infect in a grocery store or at some stupid unnecessary gathering may work at a nursing home. Please tell me how our elderly have any chance of taking responsibility for themselves when they rely on others that you’re out infecting? I guess they should just be sacrificed because you want to go on living your best life in the middle of a pandemic. So many people can’t see past their own simple lives and selfishness. More will have to die because of it, unfortunately. And once enough die and it hits home personally to all of you that are out living your best lives, then maybe we’ll get through it.

There are only 4 states in the country with an Rt of less than 1.00, and MS is the lowest of those 4 (lowest in the country). We've been less than 1.00 since July 15. Why are we seeing rates of infection rise. I'm still confused..........

Anything for clicks?

today the USA hit the high mark for cases!

we never had to shut anything down if the corrupt CDC would have just told the truth about masks. none of it.

Anonymous said...

I'm inclined to stop wearing a mask because biden is pushing it so hard. He is such an idiot.

Anonymous said...

Let's put this madness in perspective:

CDC DATA

TOTAL US DEATHS (ALL CAUSES)
2017: 2,813,503 (234,000/month)
2018: 2,839,206 (237,000/month)
2019: 2,855,000 (238,000/month)
2020 2,130,000 (JAN-SEPT)

2,130,000 + (236,000 X 3) [OCT-DEC]
= 2,838,000 (Projected 2020)

Do you get the picture? Stop frothing at the mouth. Protect the old folks and people with severe medical conditions; then get on with your lives.

@8:11 “Someone I don’t like said something so I’m gonna act like a kindergartener and do the opposite.”

"Today the USA hit the high mark for cases!" Everyday is a high day mark. Just who really gives a shit anymore. This is a virus that causes a cold, no worse than other colds and some people die from complications caused by it. Will never go away and no vaccine will eradicate it (Some folks will be allergic and others won't take it). Look at how effective mosquito spray trucks work. They don't but it sure as hell looks like our local governments are doing so. I say convert those trucks to Covid spreaders and get to as high a positive rate we can get quickly.

4:01 pm You are asking that we prove to you something doesn't exist.

Those who wear masks do so because of the science and math ( reducing probabilities of negative outcomes).

I was wearing a mask before CDC supported the practice. It was an unknown virus, it spread so fast that the odds were high it was "airborne" and I understood that travel was world wide in airplanes. I erred on the side of caution.

I think it's absurd and ridiculous to have politicized a virus which your false premise required. It is neither virtuous nor patriotic. It's sensible.

Please try to burst your political bubble.

@5:23am - Does the CDC stats you’re citing stand for “Cletus’ Dumbass Comments” website? Because the CDC website that I look at shows 300k+ excess deaths this year when compared to the last three years. And we still have two plus more months to go.

Anonymous said...

What do you idiots not get or are you purposely playing Chicken Little for political points (or are you complicit with the commie attempt at takeover?)

A positive case DOES NOT EQUAL sickness. When the lunatic medical tyrants stopped putting everybody on a deathvent, people started surviving

Anonymous said...

5:23 am Perhaps you didn't get enough sleep.

You've thrown out numbers ( omitting that CDC just said there are already 300000 more deaths than in a normal year.

You seem to totally overlook all the months that testing was rare and the first test was on Jan. 20th. The first death in NYC was confirmed in March!

The numbers of current cases and deaths in wildly underreported, not over reported.

You, of course, offer no context and don't seem to understand that we are adding to the normal annual death rate which was, sadly, higher than it used to be. You omit how many of those were from flus ( in tens of thousands, not hundreds of thousands per year).

I'm kind of surprised (since your political bubble allows it) that you forgot to add the increase in suicides and drug overdoses. Oh my, that would be inconsistent , wouldn't it?

And, God forbid, you should consider the number of CV 19 patients with permanent damage to their lungs or other organs and who may now be unable to work when the pandemic is over. We can't count loss of workforce can we?

Your political bubble is going to burst eventually whoever wins on November 3rd. This notion of politically extreme either/or positions as the only alternatives in existence is so dysfunctional as to be literally insane.

Anonymous said...

5:23, talk about getting on with your life. You apparently need to find one. Son, no one but you is always frothing at the mouth to deny a pandemic. What you are demonstrating, unwittingly, is how bad the pandemic has been. Excess mortality at that rate is 4 times the casualties, including your Uncle's falling drunk off a ship, of World War Two.

Anyone old enough to read realizes this is an extraordinary event. It's NOT business as usual for humans to have this much needless suffering and extra death.

Flu deaths might be 1 percent extra in a bad year. Your figures are showing about 15 percent projected extra on Covid (because you don't know what you are doing).

So far, we've suffered 220000 dead, 30 million unemployed, and will lose the Senate and White House in 10 days, due to liars, deniers, and minimizers like you.

But, keep it up, Cletus. Now that rednecks have gone maskless and brainless, it's becoming a self correcting problem. Stupid whites are killing themselves off.

Anonymous said...

9:59 = Spoken like someone who has not been sick with COVID (yet).

And BTW, just because YOU don't personally observe the effects of eradication measures does NOT mean they have no effect. There is much more transpiring in the world than what you personally witness.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
