Jackson

1 murder for each 1,590 residents

Chicago

1 murder for each 4,310 residents

Jackson's per capita murder rate is 2.7 times worse than Chicago's. That progressive shit doesn't work. Effective leadership does.

Once again, two lives irreversibly changed.

When are the citizens going to say enough?

I know the answer. They're not.

Chicago is a very diverse city. Far more so than Jackson. Chicago's violence is isolated to a certain sections of the city. Whereas Jackson's violence has no boundaries except the county lines of Rankin and to a lesser extent, Madison.

Kids murdering kids. Culture and parenting. Until those are addressed, it won’t matter how many cops are on the street or how tough your judges are on crime. People just don’t care, and it’s passed down to their kids.

Yea, but don't worry, all city workers are getting paid for voting.

It seems that the social fabric of Jackson is coming unraveled. Surely (I know....don't call me Shirley) someone in authority will address these issues before it gets completely out of hand. Let's not forget that hundreds of Jacksonians are left to grieve because of these murders. Truly sad what Jackson has become.

15 years old for the victim and suspect. Unbelievable and so sad.

covid 19 in mississippi. 1 death per 967 residents. it’s more dangerous to get covid than to live within the city limits of jackson

Anonymous said...

12:47. "Someone in authority" will address these issues??? Someone in authority has volunteered but being Republican and white, the help was refused. "We need more jobs, yada yada yada". We need more DADDIES, moron.

The City should try cooperating with the US Attorney's Office to participate in Operation Legend. What is there to lose?

Anonymous said...

One does usually succumb to a fatal gunshot wound.

Stewart Gresham said...

Aren't succumbed and fatal sort of redundant? Asking for the coroner.

Gets completely out of hand? It already is! I saw another prayer vigil on the steps of JPD, how many dozens of these have we seen over the years? This is a culture issue that has been in the making since LBJ in the 1960's. Over the generations children having children is the problem. No means of support, no parenting skills, no emphasis on education, leaves children hopeless with no future other than to continue the cycle. Until the black leadership addresses this problem all the prayer vigils, social programs etc. do nothing other than make the ones who promote these programs feel as though they are doing something. It took generations to get where we are, it will take time to recover, maybe someone will step up and lead but don't hold your breath.

Help was offered and turned down. Now it may be forced on them. And that’s not what they want. At that point numerous investigations will take place pertaining to all levels of city government. Many many need to start worrying or they can voluntarily take the assistance. This is inexcusable. Jackson used to not be this way.

100. Wow. Jackson has GOT to be proud of finally reaching that goal! They're playing with the BIG boyz now!

And 12;47, that fabric started tearing LONG ago! It's long since been out of hand. Unfortunately, those in authority don't see the current crime statistics as being a problem. Our current mayor wanted radical changes, and he may be proud of what he's achieved!

Also, since you mentioned grieving, another conspicuous thing I've noticed over the last several years: does anyone else but me notice on TV how the family members, friends, etc. of the victims seem to just take it all in stride? I never see condemnation or resolve, and rarely, if ever, do I perceive emotion. I'm frequently shocked by that.

No, I'm afraid nothing will change until the populace demands it.

1:23, I’m gonna throw the Bull $hit flag on that one.

If only we didn't spend so much time setting curfews, banning concealed carrying of firearms, and giving city employees a half day to vote(I am all for people getting time to vote, but a half day is a bit much), and galivanting around the US in speaking engagements with fellow "progressives" and trying to catapult himself into national spotlight, we might have some leadership in this town instead of a race pimp looking for the next gig. Anyone talked to "The Kaz" Franklin? He got a hash tag for these murders? What about #whenmyownpeoplegunnedmedown. Don't see the local community antagonist, excuse me, I mean organizers, talking about these murders.

"15 yrs old."

Unfortunately 12:25 PM, that age group is becoming more common in Jackson homicides, but the viloence is not limited to children.

According to WLBT, a 77 year old Jackson woman shot her neighbor multiple this past weekend. A 56 year old Jackson woman beat the shit out of a guy with a blunt object. As of the WLBT noon report, both victims were in critical condition and details remain unknown.

Hell . . . it could have been self defense, but no one knows the motive of these two women.

No matter, these incidents exemplify the violent culture in Jackson, Mississippi.

What is the all time record number of homicides in Jackson?

Anonymous said...

1.51 is correct. Wait and have children until BOTH parents are financially and emotionally ready to take care of them. That would fix so many other social issues.

Mayor Baby Chok has spoken today on the "moment of crisis":

Violence due to:

1. Pandemic
2. Evictions
3. Economic challenges

Therefore, his "minimum guaranteed income" plan is the solution? The dems always think that throwing money to the residents of their plantation is the solution, but this just continues the dependency, just like giving addicts more heroin.

Anyone with the self control to delay sexual gratification that long would also possess the dedication to effortlessly reach any achievement or financial goals.

If I said the problem was spiritual, would I be laughed out of the building? If I dared to add that the only answer was also spiritual, would I be forbidden to come back? If before I was hastily removed from the premises I proclaimed that a true spiritual man would not be allowed a voice in the community, would I be physically attacked? Laugh if you will Jackson needs a true spiritual revival.

@1:51

Good post. This is all being driven by the Democratic party and it absolutely a shame. Their philosophy is "keep the mother dependent and hope she can get at least some of her children to voting age".

11:17 - if you really believe your Niknar crap maybe you could be forgiven for your ignorance. But if you want to make the comparisons of Chicago and Jackson - yes, Chicago's crime is largely confined to an area of the city. But yes, Jackson's is as well. Don't know if this administration is still keeping the map that crooked Tony's staff did, but they had color-coded pins in a map of Jackson to designate all different types of crimes. The same truth that existed then exists still today - most every one of those 100 deaths are in an area defined much more so than the county lines you claim. And most every reasonably intelligent reader of this blogsite knows where those lines are and avoid them every chance they get (which is not hard to do for the average person living, working, eating in Jackson.

3:49, You're exactly on point!

My father, who easily had the financial ability to do so, was always reluctant to give me things. Unlike many of my friends, he didn't provide me with a car at age 15 (we could drive at 15 then, remember), among many other material things. I sort of resented it when I was a kid, but I didn't have to get much older before I realized he was right: when you just give someone something - without them having some skin in the game, so to speak - it has little to no value to them. For reasons unknown to me, my generation TOTALLY either forgot or shunned that time-proven concept.....and look where it's gotten us!

Yep, you really want to make things worse and create even MORE dependency? Start that minimum guaranteed income. Someone with even pretty good sense knows how that will turn out. More debt and people worse off than before. Likewise, you want a college education to be totally worthless? Make it free to go to school! I KNOW what I would have done had my education been "free!"

Anonymous said...

@4:48, I get that the older generations have always thought they had it so much tougher than the generation after, but you have to acknowledge that kids now have a much tougher route working their way into the middle class than in years past. A broken bone these days can bankrupt you without insurance. Any job that a college student can get will not make a dent in the mountain of debt they are acquiring. It's also pretty damn difficult to start a family if 80% of your income after student debt goes to rent a 1 bedroom apartment in the bad part of town. On top of this, more and more jobs are disappearing to automation and it's going to become increasingly difficult to compete with an AI controlled robot. A basic income didn't make much sense in your youth, but things have changed a whole lot sense then.

I think you are more confused than just who you intended to reply. The honest reality is that the places you refer to as safe to eat, work, and dine exist in small and clearly designated enclaves of the city. Enclaves that have a concentration of wealth that is protected by a combination of private security and police saturation.

Anonymous said...

Seems to be pretty well spread throughout the city.

@ 12:08: One of these was in North Jackson and the other in North East Jackson on the street behind Rollingwood off Old Canton, so where exactly in the city is the crime isolated to? Patrick Cruise has duped so many young couples into buying in Rollingwood. There will be so much lost investment in that area.

Anonymous said...

At least, 8:39, Rollingwood has "security gates." Does that really help? I grew up in NE Jackson in the Westbrook area then spent my teen years in Heatherwood. For the longest time both of these were some of the best parts of the city. I lived on Romany which paralleled Meadow Oaks Park Drive. Now my father still lives in Heatherwood and will ot consider any thoughts of leaving -- even as the block parties clog our streets, gunshots fly every night and the racers turn Heatherwood streets into drag strips (not even considering the speed bumps). No, this part of the city is also turning down -- and so is my inheritance. My sister and I will be lucky to sell my childhood home for anything when my father passes.

Another Northeast Jacksonian here, I remember countless fun memories of Rollingwood, Heatherwood., and the other subdivisions. One of my best friends lived on Romany.

(Dirt bikes down Westbrook Road to the Pearl River sandbars and everything else kids could do back then . . . still make me smile) .

I left Jackson for college in 1981 and didn't return until a brief stay during 2008.

Without going into detail, let's just say I was in shock and heartbroken when I saw what those neighborhoods had become.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
