Attorney General Jim Hood issued the following statement.
A former Hinds County deputy sheriff will spend time in prison for sexual battery of a 15-year-old girl, Attorney General Jim Hood announced.
Jason Pittman, 26, of Jackson, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of sexual battery. Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Tomie T. Green sentenced Pittman to 15 years in prison with five years to serve and 10 years suspended. Additionally, Pittman must register as a sex offender. Pittman was arrested in November 2018. At the time of the crimes, Pittman worked as a music minister at a church in Terry, where he met the 15-year-old victim.
“I appreciate Judge Green for her sentence and the investigators who worked to hold this man responsible for his crime,” General Hood said. “All of those who commit these types of inexcusable crimes should expect to be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
This case was investigated by AG Investigators Crystal Palmer and Lisa Edwards. Prosecution was handled by Special Assistant Attorney General Brad Oberhousen of the AG’s Public Integrity Division.

Another Tomie blessing for one of her people. Bless her heart.
Music Minister...Hmmm. The sex of the youngster is not mentioned.
I doubt Savannah will get such a blessing in Rankin County.
He just likes to play with the organ.
To go by the swim coach postings...
15? that's less than 3 years from 18. why should he go to jail at all? I mean, the 'victim' could say they were having a relationship with an older person..that's like bragging rights..
see how creepy it sounds when the pedophile is male?
he's not going to make it five years....and good riddance when it happens...
But General Hood- Prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law would result in a 60 year sentence- she gave him 5 years to serve- Ya'll did your job but don't give TTG credit for the sentence cuz it ain't near 'fullest extent of law'
General Hood said “All of those who commit these types of inexcusable crimes should expect to be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Yes, and they should also be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law. 10 years suspended? Really!
