Rankin County attorney Ed Rainer got himself in a wee bit of trouble in Court yesterday. It appears he called the court one of the Kangaroo variety and well, you can see for yourself what his transgressions earned him.
The Judge said something about only getting out through a writ of habeas corpus. However, the highly esteemed attorney was allowed to post bond.
PS) That is Ed Rainier in the mug shots, NOT John Dennery.

Who was the judge
A real "jail house lawyer." Is he allowed to hand out business cards?
Could not have happened to a nicer guy...NOT!!! Apparently, his mandated anger management courses did not last...
He's an embarrassment to Rankin County. He was just thrown out Municipal Court few months a go. Definition of smug!
Not surprising at all and contemptuously long overdue. Still, mad Greeks make the best restaurateurs....
What he said may not be wrong. We are talking about Niknar.
I do often wonder which creature leaves a stickier trail of slime. This one, or the granddaughter of Gov. Barnett?
He was forced by the bar to go to anger management / therapy a decade ago....may need a refresher
I’ve known Ed a l o n g time. He’s definitely not afraid to say what he thinks. Face it sometimes a Kangaroo is in fact a Kangaroo
It he were a black attorney, he'd be dressed in orange. And I'm white.
this little sawed off clown has been a prick his entire legal career. he exemplifies everything that is wrong with the practice of law.
This dude looks more like Barney Frank.
(With a touch of Butch Brown).
Time for Ed to go to the house.
Bet he never even saw a cell.
the ARRESTING AGENCY says FWD.........does that mean flowood?
Pore Ed. Some people just do not understand that MR. Ranier is ALWAYS right.
about 10 years ago this little punk defended a capitol murder case in rainkin county. the jury came back with a guilty verdict. when the trial proceeded into the penalty phase he had the nerve to say to the jury "you have already made one mistake, don't make another". apparently the jury didn't think to much of his case and comments cause they proceeded to come back with a death penalty.. this little shrimp needs to be put out to pasture, but unfortunately he is protected by the rankin county republican party political machine.
Any idea which Judge incarcerated him? Remember, every Rankin County GED recipient is qualified to be called Your Honor in a Rankin County court. All you have to do is get the votes.
@3:14
As part of the Rankin County Rep Machine (not Irl Deans), he's not a member nor participant!! Hell we can trade, who ya'll got??
Say what you want derogatory about Ed Rainer.I've known him a long time and I've never seen him when he wasn't more than prepared. it has one thing on his mind and that is winning for his client and doing the absolute best for his client that he can do.
City of Flowood Judge Don Leland locked him up.
this story explains the report of a leprechaun sighting at the rankin county jail.
This was not his first time to be arrested for being disrespectful in court. Several years ago a justice court judge had him arrested for contempt. He posted bond and stayed out of jail then too. I don’t remember what the outcome on that charge was. Ed is really not a bad guy, he just never learned to be careful about what he says to a judge. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.
When I was a first year lawyer, I was handling some low rent collection work for one of the white shoe firms (I didn’t fit in). This guy tried to screw me on an agreed order and I called him out on changing the document we had agreed on. He started screaming at me that he would whip my young punk ass. I drove over to his office from downtown Jackson against the sound advice of my peers. Rather than coming out to discuss the matter further, he sent his receptionist out to meet me with a signed corrected order. I never forgot that asshole but never ran into or heard from him again. Happy to read this report. Thanks, KF
I don't always agree with Ed. Won some lost some against him (Niknar home cooking). There are times when you need someone like him on your side. Too many lawyers won't fight because they have to live to fight another day. That's not the case with Ed.
somebody call the north pole and tell santa his missing elf is in the rankin county jail. proof yet again that sawed off rankin county lawyers are the worlds best toymakers.
this little munchkin getting locked up is true poetic justice. the same goes for the 17 year incumbent county attorney named richard wilson , who fancied himself as a real badass. turns out mr tough guy wilson got defeated in a landslide last august by an opponent who could not even afford to buy campaign signs. maybe those to can start a law firm together. they can cal it short and shorter.
I have practiced against Ed. He makes a boring day more interesting, I am certain he probably said something that he should not have. However locking people up because they make the judge mad is a waste of law enforcement resources, jail space, and tax money. Sanction him through fines (Say what you will about him, he has made plenty of money over the years) and let’s keep it moving. judges need to stop playing God. We send too many people to jail and wonder why there is no more money for schools and roads.

Yes, the $100 statutorily set fine will surely deter this particular one from repeating the same behavior again!
This proves judges are corrupt and power hungry.
1001 p.m. please explain how having this guy 'locked up' cost the state, county or city any more money.
The facility was there, the LEO was on duty, probably either riding around in his cop car or sitting in the bushes on the median just east of the PR bridge, and if he actually ever made it to a cell (which is more than likely something that never happened) he wasn't there long enough for the state to have to provide him a lunch.
Your point may be valid about locking up casual drug users or driver speeding out by Lajrland cemetary for a few days or years. But I'll wager that attempting to teach some probably long overdue basic respect didn't cause a nickel to be spent that you try to contend could have been spent to educate the chillen', or to patch a pothole.
This is why I'm not an attorney. My ass would STAY in jail!
Don Leland is an example of what humanity should strive to be. He's one of the best men I know. Additionally, he's a fine attorney! Ed really had to cross the line to get Don angry.
First, I think...no, I know that if every (not most, EVERY) attorney and judge were speaking in absolute candor they would say they have said things about colleagues, either out loud or in their heads, that would deserve sanctions if they had said it in a courtroom to a judge, another attorney or from the bench. Further, every attorney or judge who has practiced more than a few weeks has other members of the profession they do not respect, like or have any desire to practice against or before, and would not willingly associate with unless forced to by proceedings. So really what is under debate is professional courtroom conduct or if you will, decorum, not "respect." It is not practical or reasonable to expect all members of the legal profession to "respect" each other, but it is not only reasonable and practical, but essential to a civilized process, that members are required and able to conduct themselves properly while in a courtroom, certainly while before, and especially acting as, a sitting judge.
That said, just as proper conduct is reasonable to expect, an _occasional_ loss of mouth control in a hotly-disputed or contentious matter by a attorney or even a judge of long-standing is not so unreasonable so as to condemn the person or their overall career even if the particular verbal conduct deserves appropriate disciplinary action. Such appears to the case here: an attorney said something he should not have in a courtroom to a sitting judge, the judge popped him for it, and the attorney purged himself of his contempt by accepting his punishment. Hell, I take it as a positive that the system worked as designed rather than a negative about the cast of characters in this totally inconsequential non-drama. No, this isn't a defense of either of them because as far as I recall I've never met either of them in any context.
Ed can wake up with Red XXX some days this must be one of them.
If only 8:18's 'rules of decorum' would apply to Metro area Boards of Supervisors and Aldermen. Most of these people don't have college degrees, have never taken a debate course and have no known association with running a business or observing decorum outside a deer-camp or night-club.
If this happened in Justice Court it is pretty much a kangaroo court. The "judge"(use lightly) typically has zero or limited working knowledge of the law.
This happened in municipal court. This judge has an engineering bachelor degree, masters in business administration and a doctorate in law. He’s owned businesses for the last 40 years. He’s been practicing criminal law for the last 25 years. He’s very much qualified to hold this job
Rankin good ol boy no more...???
Judges playing God, will meet their maker!
Talk about Fairly...
