Up Next: The Barrington

Add The Barrington to the list of homeowners associations allegedly ripped off by Ridgway Lane.  The Barrington Condominium Association sued Ridgway Lane & Associates as well as David L. Lane and David W. Lane in Rankin County Circuit Court today.  The Flowood company manages homeowners associations. Several homeowners associations accused the Lanes and their company of embezzling nearly a million dollars from their accounts.

Ridgeway Lane managed the Barrington since 2009.   The complaint charges Ridgway Lane with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from Barrington accounts.  The board reviewed its financial statements after this website reported the Bridgewater lawsuit Thursday and found there were um, "significant discrepancies" between the financial reports issued by Ridgway Lane and bank statements.  David Lane actually met with Barrington representatives at Community Bank on November 8.   Community Bank transferred all remaining Barrington funds to other accounts that the Lanes could not access.

The association sued for breach of contract, bad faith breach of contract, conversion, civil theft, fraud, and negligence.  Attorney David Kaufman of Brunini Grantham, Grower, & Hewes represents The Barrington.  The case is assigned to Judge John Emfinger.

Please slow down Kingfish. Justin Vicory can't keep up.

It is outrageous that these guys are not in custody. They are, without a doubt, flight risks.

Anonymous said...

I wonder how many properties Ridgway Lane manage. I would guess they would all have been looted. This could turn out to be huge.

Anonymous said...

WTF! This is getting bad and will only get worse.

Anonymous said...

At the first story, I was sympathetic to Ridgway and Lane...I think after the second or third, I had my suspicions, after this one ....woah, momma. That's a lot of money missing. My first question is: What did Lamar Adams know and when did he know it?

Anonymous said...

Along with some of the HOA board members I'll bet.

Anonymous said...

If found guilty, Emfinger slams everyone with the maximum sentence.

These guys are pikers next to Lamar-

These allegations indicate conduct that is difficult to hide, like that of someone (hypothetically) who has a opioid or gambling addiction.

It can't be that Epstein is blackmailing this outfit, because Epstein didn't kill himself.

I would not be surprised if Lane invested the money in timber deeds with an expectation of putting the money back and keeping the profits.

Kingfish, do you have a list of HOAs that Ridgway Lane represents(ed)?

Appoint a receiver is funny. What the hell are the Lane boys doing today? Has anyone seen them around? Where do they live? If I had been hasty enough to try this scheme, a jet would would have been warming up last week. Do Local TV journalist not want the first interview??

What are the chances John Doe is Richard ridgeway?

Anonymous said...

Looked them up. Some more fine Ole Miss people. Probably funneling money to recruits.

Anonymous said...

2:56-I would say very low. I am pretty sure that the Ridgeway Lane website is dated and that Richard has nothing to do with the company.

Anonymous said...

People still live at The Barrington ?

Wasn't that area annexed by "The Fondren" some years back ?

Anonymous said...

What did they do with all this money that is missing? it doesn't seem like these guys were not living the "Lamar Adams High Life" but I could be wrong. This is a LOT of money to hide!

Anonymous said...

How much fun will the lawyers have if Ridgeway took all the stolen money and invested it in Lamar adam’s timber deals?

Anonymous said...

Regarding where the money went: I am guessing Lost Rabbit? Didn't they develop that deal? It has basically been a money pit for 15 years.

As for The Barrington: It is the highest end condo building in the state. Units sell as soon as they come on the market, and several people are waiting to get in there.

Anonymous said...

Fondren can't annex anything. They can, however, throw zanex at it. You wouldn't believe they number of famous people who might be at the Barrington, at any given moment. Movie Stars.... From Hollywood...... Wow Wee, put me on your shoulders, daddy. Wait, that wasn't Jack Nicholas, that was David Lane.

David Lane was seen at Junikers Saturday. Wonder if he was buying diamonds getting ready to flee. He’s got to know he s going to jail.

Just wives and usually these guys have a girlfriend that is 25 years younger at least visit regularly.

The main story is about the HOA boards, not the property management crooks. Do these HOA board members actually do their jobs? These HOA boards are filled with accountants, lawyers, realtors, business people, etc. If these board presidents and treasurers ran their own businesses, professional lives, and family finances the way they run these HOAs, they would have never made it. Wake up - our board members have FAILED all of us. Throw them all off the boards - if you can - or move away from your neighborhood. The boards are all suing the Lanes to throw up a cover for their own inactions. Suddenly, all of the board presidents are curious about the real financials of their HOAs. Where were they last month, last year, or even the last ten years? Sleeping on the job. These big shot board members want nothing more than to control everyone in the neighborhood and don’t know what a neighborhood legally-binding covenant looks like. Yet, they want everyone in the neighborhood to sing their praises, especially for “recently discovering” these misdeeds by the property manager father and son. The real story is why the HOA board members have FAILED us. No one forced them to be board members. They willingly accepted the responsibilities, which they chose to not take seriously. Investigate in the courts the board members who have scammed all of us.

The power-hungry lunatics on the HOA in Annandale are in the news today trying to ruin a family who have been living in an RV in their driveway since they had a house fire last Christmas Eve. While neighbors have been supportive the HOA board has been cloaked in anonymity, hounding this family while they deal with hell their insurance company is giving them.

Vicious people who will hopefully burn in hell for putting the victims through this. I am sure they claim to be religious too - all hypocrites do.

Richard Ridgway is a good guy. He’s not been part of this outfit for years. He works for CBRE commercial real estate Co. Lots of companies retain the name of previous owners. Ross and Yeager In’s has no Ross’s or Yergers working there (for example). It’s unfortunate that his name is associated with this company ☹️

I applaud the defense attorney who, anytime there is mention of Mr. Ridgeway, immediately posts that the Ridgeway Lane website is from the 1970s and that Mr. Ridgeway ended the partnership with Mr. Lane the day before disco died and that the Secretary of State's filings mean nothing and Mr. Ridgeway was out of town and Mr. Ridgeway probably might be insane and even if he knew David Lane was a crook Mr. Ridgway was simply standing on a corner minding his own business, etc., etc., etc. Make sure you bill at least .5 for each post and - this is very important - get paid up front.

You don't have a partner that long and not know something is up. Lots of folks are going down over this one.

To 9:20. Have you ever served (volunteered) on an HOA? Realizing that it is a thankless job and you will always have dissent on issues.
Most board members if not all are unpaid. Like you said, have real jobs and family’s that need there attention. Most board members are there because they care about their neighborhood. Unless you serve, your opinion carries no weight.

9:45 PM

Plenty of people live in the barrington for the very reason that it’s on 55 at Meadowbrook. Lawyers, doctors, business owners, retirees, etc.

I’m one of them and it’s super convenient, efficient, and has lots of amenities.

Watching people on 55 at 7 am or 5:30 pm driving for 30 to 50 minutes one way....makes me smile I decided not to do that. That’s about 350 hours a year....in your car....in traffic. Not for me.

It’s prob not for a family with kids but it suits lots of people’s needs.

@9:45
Your obviously not a part of the River hills club or Jackson CC eastover woodland hills family money wealthy crowd if you think people don't spend over 600-700k on a condo unit then pay 16k a year to HOA... It's true however that they do and also the list is long and so is the waiting period. Go inside the place you will see how nice it is.

Anonymous said...

@8:34
Hoa dues at the Barrington are 1,450 per month. The cost of a unit is 575 that needs to be renovated to 875k for a nice remodeled unit. Look it up. No need to call someone a troll that lives there.

Anonymous said...

Did David lane buy the house in NE Jackson recently? He was looking.

If you paid more than $300K for a unit at the Barrington, than you got jipped. Those are San Francisco prices that I am seeing reported here. Who knows maybe the idea of being an ivory tower over three bad adjoining neighborhoods is a solid plus.

300k... that won't get you very far. That won't get you in the door. Oh I will give you 300k for the unit. Yeah right. Keep your kids in the burbs with public school kids. I do treat patients in flowood at an ortho practice. Good kids overall. Easy drive for several of us in NE Jackson area. Not knocking the kids just the mentality of the parents. Reminds me when 6 years ago I moved to Jackson from Chicago. People asked me wow was it a ghetto? I told them no only a small area. Chicago is great mostly. It's cold 21% black but the crime is all in South side near white sox stadium neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

Having served on several HOA boards, it is a tough job to do it right. The boards should stay on top of things better BUT you also have to trust a management company not to steal from you.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
accounting. noun
ac·count·ing | \ ə-ˈkau̇n-tiŋ \
Definition of accounting
1: the system of recording and summarizing business and financial transactions and analyzing, verifying, and reporting the results.
(This is what the HOA boards should have been doing with their actual bank statements, not with the pretend bank statements handed to them by Mr. Lane over many years. Analyzing, verifying, and reporting to all of the homeowners are *good* things to do *each* month when reviewing a bank statement. What HOA board lesson have we all learned in the last few days? It is really not about selecting seasonal flowers or deciding swimming pool hours: the easy discussions. It is about *accounting* - using the *real* numbers. If there is a lack of money, then there will not be any seasonal flowers or swimming pool hours. Accounting 1st. Everything else 2nd.)

The socialists and poors complaining about the price of the homes versus the greed of Ridgeway Lane is exactly what is wrong with this country. If I want it, and can afford it, then I can buy it. It's call a free market. Yet the socialists and poors want it to be "if I cant afford it, and I can't buy it, then I don't want you to have it either". A phrase I was taught growing up about having different levels of income was "the world would be a dirty place without garbage men, their jobs are just as important as everyone else's". Everyone has a role, find yours and be the best damn widget maker you can be.

Jack Nicholas, zanex, and now RidgEway and “jipped”? If I had me a “nichol” for every misspelled word on this numskull-riddled site, why, heck, I would probably be able to afford one-a-them condos whose prices seem to vary depending on which uninformed person is commenting here...

Kingfish said...

Such misspelling is occurring more because of the autocorrect functions on smartphones. It gets tedious to back up and correct over and o ver so more people say screw it, everyone will know what I mean.

Anonymous said...

spelling: more likely, they're just idjuts

Ophelia said...

Yes, Roi des Poissons, I realize that the autocorrect function is the reason—no, the EXCUSE—for these wild stabs at standard orthography. I also understand that people get careless when carried away by the urgent need to get their little two-cent opinions right out there in print as soon as possible, lest the literate world lose a single moment of their wisdom.

Still.

One of the best reasons for re-reading one’s little disquisition (or screed, in some cases here) to check for misspellings, before hitting “publish,” is that, in doing so, one can also detect awkward phrasing, undue repetition, bone-headed logic, undue repetition, and also undue repetition.

One guy says The Barrington has a waiting list.
Another guy posts a listing with a market time of 218 days - 7 months for you math-challenged.

So which is it?

I would think anything in the Jackson MSA over $500k is gonna take a while to sell. There's just not that many people with that much money, who aren't already here. Not like the Jackson area is growing and drawing people from other places...

Anonymous said...

Xanax. I apologize. Had to look it up. Why wouldn’t they spell it zanex? That’s how it is pronounced and rhymes with annex. So, there you go. Same way I say Tilelunaugh.

Anonymous said...

8:28: Low ceilings, small rooms, fake fireplaces, mediocre appointments-- just depressing.

Ophelia said...

Yes, I was being polite and not busting that commenter about the “waiting list” whopper. But, while the condos? do not come on the market very often (because there are not that many of them, and they tend to be final, longterm residences rather than beginner-level or transitional ones), they DO appear on MLS now and then, and do not appear to sell instantly. They are absolutely lovely inside, and worth every centime for those who want high ceilings, nice trim, large rooms, but no big yard. The “no pets” restriction is a bore, as even highrise condos in NYC generally allow them, but I know one older couple who kept their cat there for years. They never got busted (or perhaps some money with Ridgway Lane changed hands?) and the pretty Bengal tabby died of peaceful old age...as did the couple.

Anonymous said...

I moved out of the Barrington 2 years ago. It was a divorce and we had it sold for just over 475k in 5 days. So generally they sell very quick and go for asking price. Then you pay 1,400 dollars a month and that includes parking garage and pool use.

Anonymous said...

I may have missed it but every management company i know must have a bond issued with the HOA as the beneficiary to handle money....does anyone know if these HOAs had Lane purchase a bond? Could be a huge claim but take the money and let the bonding company handle this.

Anonymous said...

The bond comment at this point is a shot in the dark. They may or may not have a bond. Who knows if they paid for one or let it lapse. The basic problem is that the bond will most likely be for $50,000 at the most. If they did have one you hope each HOA had one with them being shown as obligee so at best you have one for each association but that won't be enough based on what i'm reading. Errors and Omissions will not apply here. You best tie up any assets they have but that won't be enough in this case.

Anonymous said...

Why would anyone be stupid enough to pay 600K for a 35 year old cheesy condo in this area? And that's a fixer upper. Is is that hard to find a place to keep your aging bimbo? The "discrete" entrances advertised attracted your attention? Not too hard to get the coverage you need for adultery. And, it's tacky. It has "Phoenix All Suites Hotel" balconies and a kiddie pool. Good Lord. It's like the Beverly Hillbillies discovering the "concrete pond."

Move to the Upper East Side and try to find even a studio for that much. Anywhere in NYC.

600K is what Dominicans pay for a basement coop near the North Hudson sewer plant. But our noveau riche and the pretentious think it's the Waldorf in 1945.

This whole thread just reminds me of Key and Peele and "Continental Breakfast."

It's always a hoot to see hicks putting on airs or some Yankee Boy from a mid tier city trying to "educate" others on real estate and wealth.

And this is exactly why very unsophisticated cons work so well in Northeast Jerkson.

Anonymous said...

@5:22 PM - judgemental much? Many professionals buy there because of the convenience. If you even bothered to look at some current listings you would see that the units are quite nice and upgraded.

Kiddie pool? Seriously?

It sure is generous of your mom to have an internet connection in her basement for your use.

Next on da list said...

There’s an old realtor trying to sell her unit now at the Barrington. Apparently she doesn’t know there’s a waiting list. It’s been listed in MLS 219 days.

Anonymous said...

@5:22 obviously cannot afford the Barrington, so he/ she trashes those who can.

5:22, it was called the "cement pond," not concrete.

@10:51 Many people volunteer for many boards. Just because you do something for free or because you view it as a thankless job does not make a person any less accountable. If you handle people’s money and if you do not do what you are supposed to do when you agreed to do the job, you are liable. It is simple. Many people are liable for breaching fiduciary duty. Whether they think they should get a free pass or not because others were just as negligent does not make this go away. Everyone who serves on boards has some kind of family or life responsibility. You can’t just say “Hey! I’m busy! I didn’t realize I had to do what I said I would because you were not paying me!”

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
