Indictment: Former State Rep's wife paid kickbacks to Epps (Updated)

Original post: The Justice Department indicted Teresa Malone for one count of attempt & conspiracy and a count of bribery of a public official.  The indictment is not yet available but JJ obtained this copy of the cover sheet:

Teresa Malone. Source: Facebook
State Representative Malone suddenly retired after Chris Epps was indicted. The Malones stated no jobs or income on their economic interest statements.JJ also reported that State Representative Malone liked to file bills that involved the Walnut Grove facility.   Mrs. Malone is a lobbyist/consultant/whateveryoucallit.  The case will be assigned to Judge Wingate.

Kingfish note:  A little bird said that when MDOC would negotiate with the operators of Walnut Grove, the esteemed and virtuous Representative would enter the room, sit on the side of Walnut Grove, and proceed to negotiate on the company's behalf.

Update: The Justice Department issued this press release at 3:45 PM:

Teresa Malone, 54, of Carthage, Mississippi has been charged with paying kickbacks to former Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner (MDOC) Christopher B. Epps in exchange for receiving a consulting agreement involving the MDOC and its operations, announced Acting United States Attorney Harold Brittain and FBI Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Donald Alway. Malone will appear for arraignment on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Ball. She faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000.00 fine for the conspiracy count, and a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000.00 fine for the bribery count.

The indictment is finally available. Here it is.

So, is his coming next? Or is Teresa like Cam Newton's dad?

Are we expecting more indictments to be unsealed today?

I had heard upwards of nine more.

Not unexpected. But her husband was longtime Representative from Leake County - and longtime Godfather of Prisons as Chairman of House Corrections Committee.

They don't have a dime to show for it. What did they do with it? Is he still alive?

Everybody who wants to privatize government functions keep this in mind please.

To the Governor and former Governors that Mr Epps worked for , I have one question, who in the hell was running MDOC? The indictments show that Mr Epps was busy making deals and lining his pockets for many years. I assume his MDOC Deputy's and Wardens are in order for Retroactive Pay since they were doing his work. Mr Epps you are still loved by many and one hell of an actor to pull the wool over three Governor's heads.

Mr. Epps was well protected by the Mississippi Black Caucus. Numerous times he was to be removed/etc., the Black Caucus threatened to stall numerous measures and to pull support from any of the smallest legislation. Consequently, Mr. Epps was left alone to do as he wished.

5:50, and look where it got us. Is there anyone that he didn't take a bribe from? maybe the Ms. Black Caucus had their hand in the cookie jar somewhere. Looks like there were many opportunities.

About time. Those two have been taking payoffs for years

Anonymous said...

Former is the key word. Mr. Epps is stringing them along, they need to slap his ass in Parchman and question him.

Anonymous said...

Why does the Governor care about the Black Caucus. He does not need their support.

Aren't the Malones big Republicans?

How many times did Supertalker Paul Galtelli treat Bennett with grapefruits and softballs?

It is a bitch Davenport when you've hinged ...

Let us keep in mind the same CFO that was at MDOC under Epps is still the CFO at MDOC.

Shit Hits Fan said...

I posted here, a year ago, when Malone resigned, that this shit was going to hit the fan. Malone's decision to 'head to the house and spend time with family' coincided almost perfectly with the Epps indictment.

His wife was always at his side in the chamber, assuring us all of his unimpeachable integrity.

I never saw them at Tico's though, to their credik.

wonder if they're looking at any of the "special" stay out of prison deals Epps handled.
IIRC, there was a lady doctor that he "allowed" to enter some special program instead of going to the big house that had made off with a big bucket of the public's money.
If my thinking is correct on her ... wonder if there were more?

To 7:26 p.m. -- The Malones are lifelong Democrats.

Anonymous said...

I read the entire Clarion Ledger story on Mrs. Malone's indictment. Messers Gates and Pender never once mentioned that Bennett Malone is a lifelong Democrat. I can assure you that if he were a Republican, it would have been in the story. On the "Newsbusters" blog, there's a frequent entry: "Name that party."

This C-L story would have qualified.

Anonymous said...

Hard to believe it would be possible but Sam Hall has taken the Ledger farther left than even David Hampton.

An aside to this story is the fact that through their political connections, she was probably moved to the front of the lung transplant list which I can pretty well assure you the state of Mississippi paid for. How much do these egomaniacs think they are entitled to. Also, I think I read where they supposedly have no money. WHERE IS THE MONEY YOU STOLE.

Scuttlebutt is they lost their house a few years ago.

Anonymous said...

Judging by her Facebook page, they spent everything they had on her glamour shots.

Funny how it's always the Democrats who are caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Does that mean they are stealing more tax payer money than the Republicans or are they just too stupid to get away with it. You can't fix stupid.

Holy smoke! That woman looks like she's headed into Jocelyn Wildenstein territory.

Just say no to Bo! (tox)

Anonymous said...

Sam should be relieved of his JOB

Anonymous said...

Don't be ridiculous. Crime is scarcely the exclusive purview of Democrats. Republicans get caught all the time, too.

The Executioner's Hood said...

She's only 54? Isn't Bennett about 68? She was with him 24/7 telling him what to say and how to vote. As long as he was 'the man' in charge of Corrections in the legislature, at least he knows the layout at Parchman and will have no trouble on visitation day.

However, that can't be right since he will soon be slammed too!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
