State Auditor Stacey Pickering issued the following press release:
Mayor of Terry Resigns and Pleads Guilty
JACKSON,
Miss. –Roderick Nicholson, Mayor of Terry, pled guilty to five counts
of embezzlement, and advised the court he would resign from his position
as Mayor of Terry effective immediately.
From
January 2011 through December 2012, the Mayor made personal credit card
payments using the Town of Terry’s funds, as well as submitting false
bills to be paid by the Town of Terry.
“Considering
the size and limited budget of the town, this case is even more
egregious,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering. “My office has already
issued a demand to the Mayor in the amount of $56,966.27, and I look
forward to returning the money to the Town and justice being served in
this case.”
Mayor
Nicholson was arrested by Agents from the State Auditor’s Office in
March for driving the Town of Terry’s vehicle to his federal job.
Circuit Court Judge William Chapman ordered Nicholson to be held in custody until sentencing December 7, 2015.

Strange that he was 'ordered to be held in custody until his December 7 sentencing'. What's up with that?
This appeared to be a fine man who always wanted to do the right thing.
It appears he was not very successful at doing the right thing. A thief is a thief.
Nicholson was taken into custody following the hearing. Some supporters, including Dr. Charles Robinson, attended Monday's hearing.
"It's a witch hunt," Robinson said. "I think, sure, he made a mistake using the card, but look at the expense -- $100 here, $400 here, $900 here. He's paid it all back." (WAPT 16)
Whats a little stealing among friends and politicians. If you lower your expectations and say a little thief is ok, then that is what you get. Jeez.
He had a federal job at the Medgar Wylie Evers airport.
What did he do there?
Hope it had nothing to do with security.
People should take notice of those people who defend proven thieves. It would be advisable to hold on to your wallet when around those people. Never know when they will raise the limit they thing people should be able to steal and be forgiven for it.
What about the money that he paid to mow his yard? That hasn't come out. What about allowing a person to live on hie property in a trailer and supply free water to? What about the blank checks that he got the city clerk to sign and turn over to him? Who paid for him to go to the seminary to? the city clerk and public works director should be next!!!!

I totally agree with this comment. I have lived in Terry now for about 7 years and don't know how it was before this man became mayor but I have not liked any of the town staff and how they run the town. I have seen and heard a lot of different things about the Clerk and the Public Works director doing illegal stuff and using the City Equipment for personal use.
The Mayor has had trouble in the past with not following the rules and going against the Board.
