Ridgeland police chief Randy Tyler submitted his resignation to the Board of Aldermen tonight. His resignation will be effective June 30.
Kingfish note: Word on the street is the Chief would not move from the county to the city, hence some friction.

Well deserved retirement for him. He has given his life to that department
Got his PERS 4 High Years in, did he?
Kingfish, how do you still have a BlackBerry?
Lions,Tigers, Bears & Ridgeland PD.
Oh My !
Who's now going to control the DUI scams at Pelican Cove and Cock of the Walk ?
Craig Cotton is available for promotion.
Maybe Vickie The Wig or Bobby Winn will go apply!!!!
I dont think Randy has made quite 4 years as chief unless his time as interim chief counts. Houston stepped down when he ran for sheriff but went back in as chief when he lost. If I'd been Randy Tyler I would have told Ridgeland to get screwed at that point.
Randy Tucker is just now finishing his first term.
Randy is a great chief. The mayor wants a yes man and Chief Tyler wasn't that guy, but John Neal is definitely a knee pad wearer, so I'm sure he's next in line. Watch RPD go down hill starting in June.
KingFish, please go to WAPT and post the article regarding JPD trying to stop police chases at their city limits. Lee Vance made some BS comments toward police and voices need to be heard.
Thanks,
Jeff
8:26 is right. Stokes makes a classic statement how outlying suburbs chase their criminals into Jackson and Jackson residents are hurt.
I guess he does not understand that the burbs are most often chasing people back to their homes in South, West, and North jackson.
Can Ridgeland bring back that convicted perjurer from his current job in Tennessee?
Lee Vance, he doesn't even deserve the title Chief. Better yet he was the BOTTOM of the barrel. Look how long the guy has been at JPD and finally when they ran out of people to hire or promote they settled for Lee. For a chief to make a comment like he did, I just hope that we don't have to try and find ways to protect our citizens from other police officers", just says a lot. Lee and Kenny, neither of you can protect your citizens from crime now, at least you have other chiefs in the Metro area that aren't scared to protect citizens, which is exactly why they chase and most always catch the criminals. Why do you think you have so much crime in Jackson? You don't see people shooting, robbing, carjacking people in any surrounding city do you? Yea you may have 1 here or there, but we all take care of business. Criminals know who they can run over and who they can't. 3 criminal activities in Richland and 3 to the jail house. A crime in Jackson is a field release, you don't even go to jail. I know I saw it last week on a drug stop. (Bet you citizens didn't know this). Go to Madison or Rankin counties and see how fast they will lock you up for screwing up. Lee you really need to take a lesson from other surrounding cities and see just how their department is run because Jackson is awful. I don't care how much paint you put on it or how pretty you want to dress it up at the end of the day, your city is the worst in the state and you DO nothing to fix it. So with that being said, we will help the citizens out as we remove criminals from Jackson 1 pursuit at a time
To 8:20....you are either a Tyler ass kisser or an idiot. Ask anyone in the RPD, outside of the 4-5 other Tyler ass kissers and see how the department has deteriorated since he became chief. Randy is a great guy; Chief, not so much. He's totally uninvolved in the department operations, not responsive to the businesses and citizens of the city (just TRY to get a return call from him!!), and so focused on a myriad of personal problems, he can't be bothered with the department or it's officers.
Jackson has a misdemeanor possession of crack cocain charge. 5 rocks or less is a field release(ticket). Go to court pay a little fine, no big deal. Madison/ Rankin counties you are charged with a felony for half a rock.
Assuming Randy's pay was increased while he was interim, yes, that would count toward his high four years. High four only means highest dollar earnings in top four years. Has nothing to do with job title or status. Look for him to be head of security at Sam's in Madison.
If Randy wanted to remain as chief, he could. Fact is, anybody who can get a copy of "the tape" can be chief as long as they want, even if they develop brain cancer.
Note to K.F.
There is a story here, even though it's been many years ago, just don't ask the mayor, he will deny it.
