Breaking: McCrory resigns, PEER report critized MDOC for no-bid contracts with McCrory

Update: JJ confirmed Mr. McCrory is linked to the federal investigation for former MDOC Commissioner Chris Epps.

Rankin County School Board President Cecil McCrory resigned his position yesterday. Mr. McCrory owns several companies that provide telephone and commissary services to prisons such as G T Enterprises of Ms, Correctional Communications of Ms, and Mississippi Correctional Communications.  A 2011 PEER report criticized MDOC for issuing  a "no-bid" contract to G T in 2007 even though it was legal.  The report stated G T  was the largest provider of canteen goods for MDOC.  MDOC awarded a similar contract to Keefe Commissary Network, LLC in 2008.
G T was dissolved in December 2008.

Why is this news? What is the big deal?

Hooked up with Epps - more to come!

Anonymous said...

To bad his "partner in crime" Grumpy did not submit his resignation. What a red neck.

Anonymous said...

Hes taking Epps position over Corrections.

Anonymous said...

He has deals with several jail/correctional institutions concerning the telephone access the inmates have.

Does that mean he sells cell phones? Because we all know that all mdoc inmates have access to those. How else would they be able to Facebook?

2:31 Your ignorance is glaring.

David "Grumpy" Farmer has been the only RCSD board member to routinely stand in opposition to the Weathersby crime syndicate. He makes intelligent, well-thought out decisions, and has not sold his soul to the fat little devil that "leads" perhaps the most corrupt school district in the state. Don't judge a man by his nickname. He is a more successful businessman than you can ever hope to be, and has carried that business expertise over to his work on the board.

Crawl back into that hole from which you emerged.

OMG you guys are ridiculous! He's running for District 3 Supervisor. His resignation, although ill timed, is not a shock to us folks in Rankin County.

Federal indictments are coming down - Feds seized computers and files from MDOC this afternoon.

Be careful what you speak of, especially when you do not knoweth what the HELL you are talking about.

He is a preverbal Co#* block on anything that goes on outside of BRANDON. Successful is not what some would say. I do not disagree about the nepotism of which you speak but Grumpy Cat is nothing to rave about...

Hope Cecil likes stripes... he aint running for supe anymore.

Once again, the FEDS have had to come in ad do the State Auditor's job! Maybe Queen Mary might be a good one!

Reminds me how Uncle Trent resigned only hours before Dickie got stuck.

The level of corruption in Mississippi is 2nd only to the corruption in the Federal government.

Anonymous said...

Will he bring little Sam Waggoner with him?

Anonymous said...

He's already worked out a plea agreement and has been cooperating for months. He'll be going to court tomorrow to make it official. Can't wait to see where this leads!

Anonymous said...

hope this shit with chris epps bites phil bryant in the ass next year....he had the chance to replace chris, which he had been advised to do, but did NOTHING...he deserves what's gonna happen over the next several weeks

Epps has made many a person wealthy at the expense of the tax payer including himself. The longest serving Commissioner of Corrections will go down as a crook!

Anonymous said...

someone should investigate the pee in the cup procurement by MDOC....they gave the "bid" to a company represented by mccrory even though the price was a lot higher than the second highest....DFA, also under phil bryant, approved that purchase....just makes you wonder how many dots can be connected...someone contact kevin upchurch at dfa and ask him

Mississippi is a cesspool and Jackson the vortex in the middle.

We should all send a card of thanks to Epps for his work in keeping Mississippi in the #1 spot as the most corrupt state in the USA.Obviously we will see more pay to play in this matter. Governor Bryant should be proud of his record while in office of continuing the employment of people like Chris Epps, William Walker, Trudy Fisher, and others that should have been cut loose years ago because of their actions.I wonder how many more emergency contracts will now be revealed by this federal investigation?

Anonymous said...

@6:17, I understand Walker and now Epps in your comment. Care to elaborate on Fisher? Did I miss an indictment, conviction, or plea somewhere?

8:18 baits the hook with the seemingly innocent question. LOL

There is no greater irony than that of the McCrory-Farmer types who rant against "Big Gubmint" and spending in public, while in private taking in those lucrative contracts, lobbying for tax breaks, and spending on their Alma mater at the expense of the tax base in Flowood and the Reservoir. The Tea Party in a nutshell. "GubMint" is all bad, unless, of course, you make your money off prisons, oil subsidies, ethanol subsidies, cotton subsidies, and sweetheart government contracts. Meanwhile, the kids are in portables and sitting 30 kids to a classroom while you rant about "the Weathersbys." This hypocrite must be going to be using his own telephone system soon. "Hey, Bubba, It's Boudreaux, calling collect!" Flowood and the Rez subsidize their constituents, who at their direction, voted down school bonds, screeching about taxes. Wow. The irony and the hypocrisy. There was another local Tea Party guy who is a tax delinquent. Flowood and the Rez need to take the tax dollars and make their own district. Without Farmer and McCrory. That's spending tax dollars where they are needed.

Now will they finally get the head of the parole board and al the stuff he did under McMillian??????

10:03 - DFA has nothing to do with 'approving contracts'. There is a Contract Review Board, under the purview of the head of the Personnel Board, that does review agency contracts, but they only look at the process used with the procurement and whether it complied with statutes. They do not have responsibility of reviewing the selection of contract reciepents.

But your 'attack' on Upchurch and DFA is out of line. All DFA does in regard to any of this is process the checks paying vendors, and there they only write the checks as instructed by the agency.

@8:18 again. Still waiting.

(And pipe down, @8:53. Can't you see a man's fishing here?)

Anonymous said...

8:18, I'll place a bet that you don't get a response to your (legitimate) question of 6:17. Easy to make anonymous accusations here, but hard to back them up when questioned.

Anonymous said...

8:18 I think what 6:17 may mean about the three names mentioned is not that all three have been indicted, arrested or convicted but that all three did a terrible job as the manager, leader, commissioner or director of a state agency. While we know two of the three have been indicted, you may say that this is only my opinion of Fisher. Call any other engineer in this state that has had to interact with the DEQ during her tenure and I bet all will tell you how bad it really was and still is. Then call all of the municipalities and ask the public works directors the same question and you will get the same answers. Lawyers always make terrible administrators and she proved it again. Why did she leave the DEQ so quickly? To make more money as a consultant to Phil Bryant? Did it have anything to do with a no bid contract to a special friend? That has been one of the rumors being talked around Jackson. Phil Bryant told several people before being elected governor he would not allow Fisher to continue at the DEQ when he took office. Why did he change his mind? We may never know the answers which leads all to speculate but one thing is not speculation and that is the fact that DEQ is a disorganize mess and maybe the worst run state agency. The responsibility for failure should go to the top but seldom does.

Before this is over, Epps will reduce his sentence by ratting out the lobbyists(bag men)for the private prisons who have been paying kickbacks to high ranking MS politicians since the whole private prison scheme began. We may need a new federal prison just to hold the government crooks from Mississippi.

To all of you people that has commented on and judged this situation, I really think you should repent before going to sleep. All of you that choose to point fingers now, try picking up the Bible once in a while... Try reading Matthew Chapter 7. Unless you are part of the situation at hand you will never know what really happened. Everyone has made mistakes, including you judgmental people. How would you feel if God judged you by what he had heard instead of what he knows. Grow up and find something better to do with your time than comment on something you know nothing about.

9:36,

Why are you so judgmental?

How about you apply that same logic to the inmates getting stabbed to death because of understaffed private prisons, or no treatment of the TB outbreak, or food that is not even human grade barely equaling 800 calories a day or maybe the promotion of a guard to warden who was fired last year for inmate brutality. Or maybe you could just make your opinion off factual information instead of quoting bible verses. I'm not an inmate advocate. I'm the wife of a man sentenced to 15 years for shooting 1 of 3 men that tried to rob him. 1 year before the king of the castle law was enacted. Which btw, is not retroactive. Keep you comments for Sunday school, the kiddos will love it.

Well its bad when we trust so many people in the office and they corrupt the system by cheating and i know mr. ceil very good and had alot of trust in him and what he was doing and i had no ideal what was taking place, I am sure he will be like the rest just pay them off and walk out and smile, if this was the normal people in the town they would throw the book at us and put us under the jail, he should spend a min, of 20 years in jail for what he has done and for the trust of the people that believed in him, but anyway thats just how i feel about him now.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
