Don't park in your front yard if you live in Madison. The Madison Board of Alderman adopted the International Property Maintenance Code last week. The Board also amended Section 302.8.1 (p. 8 below) to include :
Parking of motor vehicles, trailers, boats, truck campers, travel trailers, tent trailers, camping trailers, motorized bikes, recreational vehicles, off highway vehicles, all terrain vehicles, trucks, tractors, or other major recreational equipment are prohibited from parking within the required front and side yards except on a paved driveway or other hard-surfaced area normally considered the driveway of the lot, parcel, or tract. Such vehicles may be parked or stored in a garage, carport, or fenced area behind the rear line of the building, but no closer than ten feet to any property line or boundary line, or rear property line, except that such item which is not greater than six feet in height at any point may be parked or stored closer than ten feet to a property line and cannot be seen from the street.

Will this apply to Mr. Rice who operates the junkyard on Rice Road? Or those who do not have concrete driveways in Madison. With as many codes as are unenforced, this new one will NOT be enforceable. Mary continues to tell the entire board what to think, how to think and when to think.
White trash wailing and gnashing of teeth begins in 3... 2... 1...
Thank you Mayor and alderman for protecting our home values in the city. If you want to park your car in your yard move to the county. Why is this even an issue? Most HOA's have this written in their covenants already. Most don't even allow your car to be parked on the street in the neighborhoods. Big bad Mayor Mary is at it again... Too bad the Fraziers are in jail, maybe you are running out of things to blog about. Non issue..
Next thing you know I won't be able to put a happy little tire swing in my front yard.
Pineapples parked on the porch are exempt.
" If you want to park your car in your yard move to the county. "
Actually we did deliberately decide to move into the county (with a very restrictive HOA, incidentally).
Then Queen Mary annexed us so we have to deal with her megalomania. So don't blame us for bitching about her (and our increased taxes).
BTW 10:26 - I saw a teen last week with a T-shirt with "Reunion Swingers Club" on it - anyone seen these for sale around here?
Why is Mary applying international law to Madison?
Next up: shariah!

I don't think so, since those would be classified as recreational vehicles.
Agenda 21 is coming to Madison.
Jackustan already has this same ordinance. Like the ordinance banning County Line puppy dog sales. Didn't stop nothing.
Jackustan already has this same ordinance
And it is ignored.
Clinton did this 8 years ago. Maybe Madison is starting to see the same thing Clinton did.
Looks like Goober will have to park that beat up red piece of shit in the drive way. Hail Queen Mary.
10:41 get em at studio chane in fondren next to roosters
Get ready for the flight to Rankin County. It's coming because bordering Canton, Jackson, and half of Ridgeland is just the facts...
If you want to move to Rankin County we are OK with that long as you don't bring Madison and Hinds county's damn fool ideas about how things should be.
We had too much of that when Wood Brown got run out of Hinds county and moved here. We like things the way they are in most of Rankin county, so don't come here with the idea that you are going to change it.
yep move to Rankin where there is a junk yard in every neighborhood. I think it is a good idea and yes Jackson has the same law but very few laws in Jackson are enforced not so in Madison.
Yes, at least they left the tire swings alone as long as they painted, and also left alone sinking tires, as long as they are painted, on either side of the driveway. Madison has such nice, uniquely quaint touches.
12:25 rules like this are exactly the type of thing that will keep Madison from being anything like Canton, Jackson and Ridgeland. Furthermore, Flowood and Pearl share direct borders with Jackson so Rankin county isn't immune to the metro's issues. Do tell how Richland, Florence, Pearl and the south Rez are setting such a high bar for the rest of us, tho.
Have lived in Rankin, Hinds, and Madison Counties. Not throwing rocks at any of the three. My problem comes from ANY governmental entity telling me what I can do on MY grass that I have either bought and paid for or am paying for every time I make a mortgage payment. This is totally unlike a HOA or other restrictive covenants that are on the property when I make a decision to buy. Somehow I have this old fashion notion that if it is MY property that I should be able to have a bit more freedom about where I park MY vehicle. But I guess that I am just out of step.
What about bottle trees?
Wonder how many that oppose the parking rule feel as strongly about noise ordinances and curfews. The "this is my dirt and I'll do as I see fit with it" crowd is often not so free spirited when it comes to other personal choices.
What if the bottle tree is on a car parked in a yard? Or a bottle tree on a roof shaped like a flamingo?
What about an aging flamingo with too much make up masquerading as a auditor? In the yard? Or in a state vehicle parked in a yard on official business?
I live in Rankin County and I'm outside looking for the nearest junkyard. So far, I haven't found any. Do I need to start one to fit in with the above poster's sweeping, broad generalization?
If you are really in a quandry about the Madison junkyard, here are the directions: Going east on Hoy, turn right on Rice Road. Proceed south two-tenths of a mile and it's right there on your left.
Going east on Hoy, just past north old Canton, the first house on the left facing Hoy has three vehicles (one hooked to a nice enclosed trailer) parked off the driveway, in the yard.
There are vehicles in Ingleside parked off the driveway. There are vehicles parked off the driveway at the Hamil residence on 51 (used for advertising purposes no less).
Some residences in the city do not have defined, concrete drives.
This time, Mother Mary has bitten off more than her PD can chew. Will she use Thad's contributor list to cull the offenders?
The new president of the HOA/Madison in Calumet lets her kids park their BIG ASS trucks in the yard...Thanks rednecks!!!!
This ordinance will be ammended so that it applies only to renters and colored folk.
So what if you are so stupid and lacking in taste and class as to lower the property values, not only for your neighbors ,but for yourself.
Can't fix dumb but you can make dumb behavior illegal.
So, 4:18, dumb is now defined as parking off the concrete? These are the same stupid assholes who want to mandate garage doors down at all times and no bird feeders lower than six feet from the ground. What's next?
Mr. Simmons, I too was forced by Queen Mary to be a part of the City of Madison against my will. She used your tax dollars to ramrod her agenda on folks who did not want it. I dare you or her to come on my property to tell me to do anything. Have a good day sir.
