Jackson Jambalaya

Posted below is an album that is perfect for Halloween.  The Alan Parsons Project took some Edgar Allen Poe stories and set them to music.  The album has somewhat of a Pink Floyd sound.  Such a feature should come as no surprise as Alan Parsons produced Dark Side of the Moon.  Oh, and none other than Orson Welles provided some readings.  Eat some medicinal marijuana gummy bears and enjoy.

Twitter took a page out of 1984 and suspended the New York Post account because it didn't like some stories the newspaper published about Hunter Biden.  Facebook and other social media companies banned sharing the Post articles but none went as far as Twittter did in actually banning the newspaper.  Well, such tactics call for some good ole jackassery.  The articles are linked below.  Feel free to read to your heart's content, preferably over a drink or while eating your favorite medical marijuana gummy bear.

 The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 824 new cases of the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 6 new deaths. The total number of cases is 120,160. The virus has caused 3,334 deaths. Nursing home deaths comprise 40% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 101,385 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt value is 0.91.

The Philadelphia branch of the Federal Reserve Bank said Mississippi's economy led the South in rebounding to  where it was before the Covid-19 pandemic shutdowns began.   

 The city of Jackson issued the following statement. 

 It was too good to last.  Mississippi's access to higher-qualified out-of-state doctors will end in January.  The Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure decreed yesterday that emergency licenses issued to out-of-state doctors practicing telemedicine in Mississippi will expire January 31.

 A group of youngsters caught the Covid-19 virus at a Wisconsin church retreat last summer. One kid tested negative before arriving but managed to catch it from a relative.  The kids stayed in dorms together and didn't practice social distancing.  However, the CDC said most of the infected only had mild symptoms.   The CDC reports: 

One David L. Archie is going at it with WMPR and Wanda Evers.  Our favorite supervisor sued the pair in Hinds County Chancery Court after Ms. Evers banned him from WMPR premises.  

Hurricane Zeta rampaged through New Orleans and South Mississippi yesterday.  WWLTV posted on Facebook a time-lapse video that showed the hurricane's assault on the Crescent City.  Watch the video posted below. 

Seven candidates will vie to replace Melvin Priester, Jr. on the Jackson City Council.  The list is posted below.

 A Jackson gem passed away recently.  Vasilios Konstantinos Matheos was his actual name but most people knew him as Bill as in Bill's Greek Tavern.  Mr. Matheos died at his home on October 11.   He led a rather colorful life.  Such people are the much-needed Tabasco sauce for every community. His obituary states:

To say Zundria Crawford is mad at the Mississippi Supreme Court is an understatement.  Ms. Crawford failed the Mississippi bar exam in 2015.  Instead of retaking the exam, she did what comes naturally to bad lawyers: she sued and like most bad lawyers, she lost every step of the way.  Her filing have been rather colorful in nature but she really outdid herself in her latest filing.

U.S. Attorney says presser tips off criminals. 

JPD  and other law enforcement agencies are taking the fight to the bad guys in Jackson.   Chief James Davis announced the commencement of "Operation Unity" at a press conference yesterday.  

 The Queen's challenge to the I65 initiative is postponed until after Election Day next week.  The Mississippi Supreme Court ruled this afternoon:

There is nothing like street justice as this clown quickly discovered.

 The Queen caught everyone by surprise when she sued to stop Initiative 65 Monday. Her petition claimed the Secretary of State improperly certified Initiative 65 when he ignored the Mississippi Constitution's requirement that each congressional district can only contribute 20% of the required signatures for an initiative.  Mississippi practically defines irony and this case is no exception.  The same Secretary of State who is forced to defend this lawsuit filed a Senate resolution in 2015 to correct the very problem the complaint addresses.

 Warren Strain passed away this morning.  The Madison Alderman and former WLBT anchor suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in December. He came home this summer after months in various hospitals. He progressed to where he could manipulate his wheelchair and feed himself.  Prayers and thoughts go to his family.  He was a friend and a great guy.  He will be sorely missed.  Warren Strain, R.I.P.  

 Ole Miss Head Football Coach Lane Kiffin has never been one to keep his mouth shut and he is not about to change his ways now.  The SEC issued the following statement after he criticized the refs after Saturday's game:

It is always the simple things that are overlooked yet often come into play.  Such may be the case in the medical marijuana fight.  Mayor Hawkins-Butler and the City of Madison filed an emergency petition against Secretary of State Michael Watson yesterday in the Mississippi Supreme Court that seeks to declare the initiative invalid.  The 34-page petition revolves around one central point: the Secretary of State improperly certified the petition for Initiative 65 in 2019 by ignoring the Mississippi Constitution's requirement that each congressional district can only contribute 20% of the required signatures for an initiative.  It is a case of simple math.  Does 1/4 = 1/5?

One more tree may fall in the Lamar Adams case.  SEC Receiver Alysson Mills asked U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves to approve a settlement with Stuart Anderson.  Mr. Anderson sold phony timber investments for Lamar Adams.

Right-wing National Public Radio questioned whether schools should remain closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Several recent studies concluded the opening of schools did not worsen the pandemic.  NPR reported:

On the second morning of her Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Judge Amy Coney Barrett surprised the nation with a simple gesture. Typically, in a congressional hearing, individuals giving testimony will bring catalogues of notes, references, and relevant information they can refer to when questioned. There’s little that is off-limits in a judicial nomination hearing, so individuals who appear before the committee often come equipped with talking points and sound bites to counter particularly difficult questioning.

 You read the headline correctly.  Inmates can receive the $1,200 stimulus checks after a federal judge ruled they are eligible for the payments earlier this month.  CNBC reported October 14:

 The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority issued the following statement. 

The war for medical marijuana is the hottest political battle right now in Mississippi.  Advocates tried to get a bill passed for years but met defeat every time as favorable bills were killed in committee without even a vote.  State Representative Joel Bomgar had enough.  He gathered some allies, some cash, and much-needed signatures to place a medical marijuana initiative on the November ballot.  The Legislature placed a competing amendment on the ballot as well.
