The Madison County Board of Supervisors are taking up a $48 million bond package to fund a conference center. Two supervisors have questions so the discussion should be interesting. The meeting is live-streamed below.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

The decision has been made already….this is theatre
Follow the money to some crooked supervisors. A conference center benefits few but the majority of residents of Madison County will be on the hook for $48 million, which will grow. We don't need the traffic, especially at the entrance to Ridgeland HS.
Very true. The crooked supervisors decided this while sipping single malt in a smoke filled room.
Jackson’s conference center is losing money and Madison wants to build one?
$48 million? More like $480 million when it’s all done.
Yes and this will make many in government very rich. More rich than the tax payers they are soaking!
Why would this surprise anyone. Inherent behavior of any politician.
Jackson's convention center losses have far exceeded all the worst case scenarios drawn up to dupe the public in advance of the enabling vote. The lack of an adjoining hotel and all the other excuses put forth in retrospect were all known at the time. The public was sold that the center would at least break even. It has never come close to doing so.
Mr. Speed said it was the biggest mistake he ever made at MDA.
The bonding rope-a-dope. Never tell the public what the all-in financed total will be after the bonds are paid back.
@3.5% and 20 years the payback is at least $67 million.
JCC was supposed to be revenue bonds. The market said nope, not buying them. Harvey sold GO bonds. Never told Jacksonians.
If Steen is for it, must be a crooked deal.
Trey's decorum is deplorable. District 2 needs better representation.
This deal is destined to make the Lost Rabbit PID and Parkway East PID look competent.
@11:09, that's just because Steen thinks he's the board dictator and refuses to listen to any of his proposals... which all seemed to have merit to me. Steen needs to go, anything he touches is only good for his pocket book.
I will never understand why people will get out of one city move up the road and start creating the same problems they moved away from. Its kind of like the idiots that believe in socialism. They all think that their brand of socialism will work, the same with these narcissist they think because THEY do it it will work. Keep trading quality of life for greed and growth and your kids will be raising your grandkids in another town or state.
@11:40, two things can be true at the same time....Baxter can be mad as hell at Steen for being the way he is, but he could also conduct himself with much more decorum. He hurts his own cause as much as Steen by the way he acts.
It passed. New luxury cars and vacation homes in 3, 2, 1.
Funny the lady in the blue dress complaining the High Schools have to go down the Mississippi Coliseum during graduation. Honey This conference center will not be able to hold this many people during graduation. Also, conference center has been on the downfall since covid. Having trade show at a conference center have been replaced by zoom.
“Having trade show at a conference center have [sic] been replaced by zoom.”
You don’t get out much do you? Look at the bookings at Clyde Muse, Sheraton, etc.
12:08, you're not wrong and I also think Baxter could oppose Steen more tactfully sometimes. But in this case I'm not sure what else he could have done to try and apply some accountability as it was clear that Steen, Griffin, and Banks were going to force it through. It was clear watching the stream that due-diligence has not been done. Sounded like Baxter just wanted to make sure his opposition was clearly stated once this becomes a cluster. Dude was just thinking about re-election at that point.
Truth
This conference center will hold graduation for all Madison county schools. You might want to check out what is going on out at The Refuge conference center. 90% booked and Rankin salivating in the $$$.
So it sounds like the majority of citizens are against this. Soooo… why is it going forward?
Because the troublesome trio represent $pecial intere$t$, not the public.
This is… Democracy Manifest!
Griffin - dumb as rock
Banks - politically savvy, but a democrat, you can reason with him
Steen - knows how to play the game, slimy
Brannon - clueless, but his wife works for Mayor Mary
Baxter - a disappointment
Hmm. Conference centers rarely if ever make $. This process seems rushed. The experts-I’m sure are getting paid. Taxpayers will prob start footing bill soon. Are taxpayers going to fund hotel?
You can bet if McGee and Steen are backing a project, the 'shitter's full'!
Baxter has always been slovenly. It sorta goes along with never having a real job.
Exactly! Madison residents do not want conference centers or hotels! Ridgeland will regret all the many hotels located in that city once they get some age on them and attract unsavory individuals!
Baxter may be many things, but I can tell you right now that if you’re using words like “sorta,” you have no business throwing around words like “slovenly” that you clearly pulled from ChatGPT. I have an idea—how about a spelling contest?
It would be wonderful if voters could replace bothTrey Baxter and Steen next election!!
If this was going to be such a great commercial success, why do the Prado boys need public dollars? Surely, someone in the commercial lending space would be happy to underwrite such a sure thing.
So just to be clear. Madison is buying the property for $10 million from Prado. Then Madison is financing the property for Prado. Then Prado is getting a 5% management fee for managing the property. Then he’s essentially getting the property back for $10. And he’s also saying now that he started from nothing? That’s funny because he has bragged around town that his dad was a developer and he has family money. Also, he was working a normal job making under 100K until his father passed. It’s all in the name… PradoCON.
Interesting that Gerald Steen and Prado are friends on Facebook. Seems like a conflict of interest.
Why Tate Reeves and the other so-called leaders of the MS Republican Party sit by and allow Madison County Supervisor/RINO Gerald Steed backed by Ridgeland Mayor/RINO Gene F. McGee…..turn Madison County over to Democrats with Mike Espy (who’s record totally speaks for itself) leading the way; all in exchange for short term gains for Ridgeland, proves yet again why Republicans are called THE Stupid Party.
Democrats have literally DESTROYED Jackson. HUD is allegedly paying much more in monthly rental to landlords (many out of state) to place No Income, No Job, No Assets Section 8 tenants in the Rankin Schools districts, and now, Democrats literally control Madison County.
Democrats are evil, but they’re not dumb like Republicans. Democrats play the long game while Republicans sit on their hands. When Madison County falls, and since Democrats destroy everything, it likely will, remember it was Gerald Steen and Gene F. McGee at the helm with the so-called leaders of Mississippi’s Republican Party sitting on the sidelines that allowed it to happen (where the ____ is Mary Hawkins Butler???).
How do the troublesome trio drive a car or use their phones with so much grease on their palms?
Tesla self driving and Siri can make it hands free?
Who is this dude that is suddenly investing and building things. Where did he come from, has anyone done a background check ?
The lost rabbit pid was a disaster but the county worked with the lenders and lost rabbit is very well developed and looks pretty good.
You’ve got hate in your heart.
You said all that to suggest he is not slovenly? Perhaps you might look it up. He's asleep as often as Banks is asleep. He dresses out of a dumpster. His attention span is bumping zero. He can't compose a sentence. Here: Let me help: Slovenly - "untidy or carelessly done in appearance, habits, or work".
What is chatgpT?
The ultimate self licking ice cream cone. No way the tax payers aren’t on the hook at least for interest on the bonds.
I am pro convention center, and I previously had nothing against Prado... until now. Everybody would be a developer if they could do deals like this! Sell the acreage at an insane cost, and then get it all back for $10??? What was the hurry to vote on the morning of after a holiday weekend? Why not get an independent survey? Allow the public to ask questions. Why is this being passed through Prado at all. What am I missing here?
This deal is a joke. Anybody can get a Wyndham hotel franchise. He couldn't get a Hilton or Marriott brand because he has no resume.
11:27 AM said: “You’ve got hate in your heart.”
Yep, we hate that a 2-year old was murdered.
We hate 2 children being killed by stray bullets inside of only 10 days.
We hate that a 7-year old was murdered (shot in the face).
We hate evil and Democrats are the evil that destroyed and turned Jackson into America’s murder capital with soft on crime, catch and release Democrat Party policies.
Kane Ditto began the turning of Jackson, MS over to radical Democrats in the 1990’s when he hired Jimmy Wilson.
Now Madison County Supervisor Gerald Steen, backed by Ridgeland Mayor Gene F. McGee have turned Madison County over to Democrats…..so hang on.
But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. Mathew 13:25
Open up some Kwik-E-Mart's, paint the Drury Inn poorly, collect $48 mil. got it.
