The Capitol Police issued the following statement.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., Capitol Police officers were alerted by the Jackson Police Department concerning a stolen white 2013 Hyundai Sonata at the West Express Convenience Store on Fortification and West streets. As officers converged on the business, the vehicle sped off, and a pursuit ensued. Officers continued down West Street to Woodrow Wilson Avenue and continued following the vehicle onto the Sonny Guy Municipal Golf Course when the suspect left the roadway. Officers continued their pursuit until the subject’s vehicle collided a tree on the golf course. The subject, 30-year-old Jamory Smith, exited the vehicle and fled across the driving range while displaying a visible weapon. After a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended Smith on a fairway. Officers contacted AMR, and Smith was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The vehicle and the weapon Smith was carrying both came back as stolen. Smith will be charged with felony evasion, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of a stolen firearm. Additional charges may be filed. This is an open and ongoing investigation.Note: Posted below is WLBT video. Start at 2:00.
