Meanwhile, at a nice restaurant in the Jackson metro area last night.....
Thankfully, the food and service was real good.
For some reason, the pictures reminds one of this.

crypto scams and social media meme-stock pump-and-dumps have put a lot of new money out there.
While we are at it, let’s talk about people wearing hats in nice restaurants. I’m not talking about bar areas or in casual places. I’m talking about fine dining.
More and more I see hicks and ghetto-asses wearing hats as they eat.
One, I can’t believe restaurants allow this. Two, I can’t imagine the lousy tips they leave, if any.
I want to smell the food, not your feet.. uhg...
One fine dining restaurant here does have a dress code and enforces it. You would not believe the tantrums they endure or the viciousness on Facebook. Woman was on a damn zoom call on speaker phone in middle of main dining area on a Saturday night. They asked her to stop because they don't allow that sort of thing. She got mad, let them have it so they threw her out.
Any dining establishment that has TV screens on the wall, can't complain about customer attire.
I think it’s a big deal people need to get a hobby
@Kingfish Which one? I’ll start patronizing ASAP.
That's a Rankin redneck going to the big city for dinner.
I seriously doubt this was a 5 star resultant.
It might be a nice restaurant but “fine dinning” in Jackson I seriously doubt it. It doesn’t look like a 5 star restaurant
Maybe he washed his feet
Maybe he had a ebt card.
I would agree looks like a bar and grill not fine dinning
Good manners starts at home.
For you idiots questioning “fine dining”, I don’t think anyone is thinking this photo is fine dining. Rather, it was a comment from a previous post.
Fine dining is dead in the Jackson area.
People don’t wear the appropriate clothes. Wear hats. Bringing balloons and think it’s OK to bring in birthday cakes.
Show some self-respect and decorum when you go out to eat.
My parents didn’t teach me good manners
If it’s in Jackson must be a fast food restaurant
Notice the young woman's fine posture, with napkin in her lap and one hand on lap; she has excellent manners. Her date is hunched over like an ape and behaving like one.
Fine dinning? Get back to BoDons Earl.
you right .........suburban rednecks.....the absolute worst breed out there.
I don't always seek out fine dining establishments...But when I do, I choose places like Buffalo Wild Wings or maybe Sal and Phils where I can use my fingers, even for the slaw.
Will one of you snoots please list two or three 'fine dining establishments', not just in the metro, but in all of Mississippi? Please don't include fried-chicken events after Baptist funeralizins.
Some people just arent ever taught good manners. My current wife is as sweet as an angel. When we were dating, she chewed with her mouth open, smacked loudly, and talked with food in her mouth. She also couldnt tell a salad fork from a soup spoon. Her other qualities more than made up for it so I decided she was a keeper. I had to teach her some manners before we had kids. Thankfully, she was receptive.
Those chairs don’t look very comfortable.
That looks like a place for board games or craft work. But I’m sure it’s nice for Jackson.
You never hesitate to mention Fondren and Belhaven or Downtown when shit happens there. Why not say exactly where this happened instead of “Jackson Area”? You’ve got idiots in this comment section saying “I’m sure that’s nice for Jackson” and it’s probably Rankin County where they live.
Koestler Prime, Ely’s, Caet come to mind.
@11:09am the hats are unbelievable. There is a scene in the Sopranos where Tony takes care of a loser wearing one and when was that? 2005? It’s an epidemic now no matter where you go. Pajamas and open toed shoes everywhere in America. 0 class to be found outside of a few Villages on the East Coast.
Manners, respect and civility no longer exist. When we gravitated to everybody gets a trophy that was the final nail in the coffin.
Men dress like they're working on a transmission and women just don't care anymore.
I wish we had a restaurant that required dresses for women and suits for men. That would be classy. Just no crab legs.
She does exhibit good manners, She needs to box him on the ears like our mama did.
This is America, and I wear what I damn please when I get out to dine, because our boys fought and died for that freedom. All you Vanderbilts, Harrimans, and Rothschilds can stick it where your salad forks don't shine.
You sound like a grumpy old man
6:08 - I know the scene well. Something along the lines of “they don’t serve hot dogs in here and they took the bleachers out years ago”.
It’s true, when I go to places like Ely’s and Table 100 I see people on phones, hats and other inappropriate dress. That’s Jackson for ya, well, Mississippi.
University Club used to require a jacket to dine there. That place got ruined and closed.
When I travel I still see some nice places that will not tolerate such BS, but those places are usually up north in cities or on the west coast. New Orleans still has a couple of places that require proper attire.
6:59, I’s say this has more to do with parents and administrators letting kids wear pajamas and shower slippers to school than participation trophies.
Ans 606, to add to your list: Elvies, Pulito Osteria, Walkers all fit the bill
If children are allowed is it fine dining?
I'm guessing Georgia Blue.
Excellent post fellow Traveler.
No
Trace Grill for meat and three?
Elvie's.....are you kidding???? That place is tattoo/ugly women heaven,
You goobers, clutching faux pearls while kicking off your flip flops in front of the TV, talking about fine dining. Huaaah! Get the hell over your snoot-ass selves.
The closest thing to fine dining in Jackson can be found in New Orleans or Dallas.
While you cougars and cucks think a steakhouse with white table cloths and college age boys waiting tables represents fine dining, here's the definition:
"Upscale restaurants offer quality food and atmosphere with table service, while fine dining is the highest tier of upscale dining, characterized by superior ingredients, elaborate presentation, complex menus, highly skilled staff, and a formal, luxurious experience focused on intricate culinary artistry and an unforgettable dining journey, often at significantly higher prices. Essentially, all fine dining is upscale, but not all upscale dining is fine dining."
Telling the waiter, while chuckling, "Man, I want mine so rare it moos", does not represent a request for intricate culinary artistry.
Meanwhile: If you're driving and see a boarded-up Church's Chicken Restaurant, you're probably in the wrong part of town.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned his shoes on the floor & his legs are crossed in his chair. This is not "fine dining" with shorts on.
How many of the local "upscale" restaurants would you let the waiter order your wine for you?
That's on them for not enforcing dress codes. My biggest pet peeve is speakerphones in restaurants. The 30A lifestyle has made its way up here as well. I was in KP one evening in the lobby when a dude came in with his family. Baseball cap, bright red warmups. Pointed to sign and said they couldn't serve him unless he changed. He got mad and left. Oh well.
I think they all caught it.
It’s literally a restaurant in Mississippi, who cares. I doubt very many people in MS know “fine dining” or attended Fork and Knife Academy.
I agree with 9:54 pm and love the restaurants he mentioned for lunch and/or dinner. I dined at Elvie's just this weekend and it was excellent as always. I also enjoy going for ice cream after just a few steps away. Few Boomers got tattoos after seeing blurred hula girls and anchors that just looked like smeared paint on our high school friends' fathers. So, I think I'd notice, if one was obvious or a person was obviously ugly or ill-mannered. It's not a large place.
II admit not scouring the skin of every patron or the staff, male or female.
I suggest 8:13 am look in the mirror and also read your own words. Your inner ugliness is so glaring, I doubt the finest attire or a plastic surgeon could hide it.
I also am fairly certain ugly 8:13 am, like some other commenters, never have been to Elvie's or know the difference between a chain and local restaurant. I also doubt that many of you naysayers have been to a 5 star restaurant anywhere.
I lived in Austin some decades ago. There was an upscale restaurant on the south side of Barton Springs Road whose name I have lost to the years that continued to uphold a dress code while its competitors relaxed theirs. And the restaurant went out of business; word got around not to go dressed casually. Perhaps the management saw the headlight of the oncoming going-out-of-business super express train and moved off the dress code tracks, I don’t know and don’t remember now. But whatever, the place went tits up, and it went tits up pretty quick.
The market for a restaurant with more than a minimal dress code in a country filled with slobs ‘cause they wanna be, that’s a tiny sliver of the customer base.
Some say Oxford is chock full of fine dining establishments.
It's like the medical/relaxed marijuana laws: show me one place where it has gotten BETTER by having lower standards
7:01 PM, our mothers must have know each other. I had my ears boxed a few times, very few because I learned my lesson!
I agree
Eating at captain D isn’t fine dinning
I doubt the sandals cover the foot odor. If you wear sandals or take them off, my nose won't know the difference.
Seriously some of you sound “snobby” as long as your clean don’t stink not loud and can offered it why not
The very best "fine dining" establishments have an enforced dress code and only take cash. That eliminates ALL of these problems.
Unfortunately it is probably now considered child abuse. (7:01 PM, our mothers must have know each other. I had my ears boxed a few times, very few because I learned my lesson!)
I remember a child in our church as his mama dragged him by his ear down the aisle at our church. His manners got amazingly better.
