The city of Pearl issued the following statement and video.
The Pearl Fire Department responded to 9-1-1 calls of a large fire in an eight unit building at the Grand Apartment Complex on Colony Park Blvd. off Pearson Rd. just after midnight on Monday. The first responding police officer was able to alert and assist residents in evacuating the building. As firefighters arrived, all four units on the second floor of the building were engulfed in flames. Due to the size of the fire, all four Pearl Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene and it took nearly two hours to get the blaze under control.
All eight units in the building were destroyed, the four on top burned and the four on the bottom from smoke and water damage. Two residents had minor injuries from evacuating and were treated and released at the scene. Thankfully there were no other injuries to residents or any Pearl firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

cause of the fire?....................in rankin county the cause is cooking meth until proven otherwise .
WLBT, I believe, reported non-functioning hydrants. If true, shades of Jackson, and shame on Pearl.
@12:21 PM - Let's hope not, and thanks for correctly calling them "hydrants," vs. "fire hydrants," which is analogous to saying "hot water heater" vs. "water heater."
Considering that the weather is mild right now so the likelyhood of a space heater type of fire is minimal, a fire that starts at midnight has a high probability of being started by a smoker who fell asleep.
The metro area sure has a lot of apartment fires.
Non-Functioning Hydrants are a plague on the US right now. South Carolina fireman from Columbia area (Irmo) lost his life in an apartment fire. Officials said closest hydrant to the fire was "non-functioning" but another one close by was and played no part in the loss of life. Investigations by OSHA, ATF, State Fire Marshal, SLED and lawsuits will hopefully find out is he comments were CYA or not. The city of Columbia (state capital) did a survey and found around 400 hydrants defective including 125 that had been struck by cars and not repaired.
Its everywhere.
I didn't realize there were stick-built buildings in Purl, thought it was nothing but trailers, I mean mobile homes.
I am appalled at the lack of sympathy for the dis-placed burnt-out tenants. The old stereotyping of Pearl, Jackson, and many other places surely does date the poster/s. Just old and bitter people could be so heartless or so ill-informed. Pearl has come a long way from the 1960's and 1970's and is a flourishing place. I don't live in Rankin County, but certainly do not mind giving credit where credit is due.
I'm thinking arson-
There was a fire bug in the late 90's in NE Jxn torching apartments.
It was devastating to many families.
I hope these renters had insurance, at a minimum.
