More Police at Madison-Central High School

Madison-Central High School  Principal Teague Wakefield said there will be a police presence at his school for the near future.  He sent the following letter to parents.

Five students were arrested yesterday after a fright broke out at the high school.

Kingfish note: Social media? Yes, Mr. Principal, it's a shame when video actually tells people what happened.  The video forced you to admit there was a problem to the public instead of just doing what schools usually do, stonewall and say nothing happened.

I thought Madison Central was one of the nicer schools?

"...instead of just doing what schools usually do, stonewall and say nothing happened."

The nuns slap your knuckles with that ruler as a kid?

More police, yeah, that’ll work, just like it works everywhere else it’s done. American public schools are daycare facilities, that’s it, with a hefty Government payroll.

Solution? Require that all student phones be locked up during school hours. Period.

Madison Central was nice when it was built. Just like most schools. But that was a long time ago. Your best shot is Ocean Springs HS or Oxford. That's about it these days. Oak Grove is up there too. And Tupelo and Clinton continue to perform at a high level and stay out of the news, despite (horrors) being half black.

MC is a good school. Kids are stupid and sometimes do stupid things. I bet it doesn’t happen again.

9:48 - Calloway High WAS one of the nicer schools. Metrocenter Mall WAS one of the nicer malls. It happens everywhere sooner or later.

9:48 am There have been physical fights at even private schools for decades.
And yes, even at the private schools here.

Long ago, "nice people" didn't 1) air their dirty laundry 2) parents dealt with issues with their reasonably and privately 3) parents respected teachers and thought them allies not enemies 4) understood that setting a good example for our children in every facet of life was important 5) wanted their children to be truthful, well educated, well mannered and well behaved in word and deed and 6) that rules and laws exist for a reason and before we change them, we should know why they came into existence.

We did not see any of this as difficult. Indeed, we saw it as "civilized" and an improvement over lawlessness and chaos.

The reason you don't know is there are some "nice" people left. But, politics is empowering busybodies, liars, violent thugs and criminals ( including con artists by excusing or defending bad behaviors and painting lawful authority of any kind as the "enemy" of freedom. Freedom is now understood by our children as being able to do whatever the hell you want without consequences...even if you cause damage to persons or property. You can now claim being a "revolutionary" not a violent a**hole or a " soldier of the Lord".

Now scandalous behavior is see, in our leadership most especially in Congress and if parents don't care about the bad behavior of groups they choose, why should they expect their kids to pick groups that require good behavior.

Heroes, even on media and in books, "win" by breaking rules and breaking the laws and winning indeed becomes everything. It doesn't even matter if they are addicts like Rush was or diagnosed as clinically mentally ill like Liddy and Alex Jones(whose psychiatric delusions are well documented). Crazy behaviors have been normalized to the point of being unrecognizable...even schizophrenia and extreme paranoia.

Look up Role Models for children and see if somehow that which once worked still exists at all.

Sometimes the

It is. Having raised a boy and a girl, I’ve learned that kids are stupid sometime.

Among some groups, social media has a acquired parent-influencer status such that even girls get hero status for violent behavior.

Fist fights between boys has always been normal and frequent, in both the public and Catholic schools I attended.

Stop pacifying the kids. They assume the Principal is weak! Some schools have strong teachers and administrators and will not tolerate this nonsense. And the kids know it!!

We have phones now. We see everything.

The answer is "Vouchers". Dont like the school? Take your voucher and go somewhere else. Parents will get what they demand and Principals/Teachers will be incentivized to do better.

@10:33 appears completely oblivious to the irony that their screeds are the most unhinged ramblings of a lunatic on this blog.

We are talking about public schools here.

11:14 and others. Don’t count on vouchers being a cure-all. Some research has shown that the majority of vouchers are grabbed up by students already in private or whatever school they are attending. Leaving the struggling students and schools no better off. Plus, students carry their issues and attitudes with them wherever they go. I attended a private faith based school in the early 1960s. There were fights and disruptions then just like now. But now, everyone has a cellphone/camera and instead of trying to break up a fight, they video it! I would support prohibiting cell phones at school but parents have a meltdown if it’s mentioned. Part of the solution is strong school administrators, community support, and parental involvement.

Dang got to have police bring law and order in the schools, what’s next the National Guard! I was called once to the school due to my daughter being a butt. After I talked to the group of teachers in the room, they said they will call me from now own and not my wife!

Before I left the school I had a talk with my daughter (real talk). I was never called again.

Perhaps Madison Police Dept. should establish a Conflict Resolution Class. It was very successful in Jackson, why not Madison?

Link?

This stuff happens at public and private schools. The only difference is that private schools have the incentive to keep it quiet.

The problem is that Madison doesn't have one of those very effective and high-tech "Real Time Crime Centers." Right?

Over 500 kids absent today from Madison Central Schools are funded by Average Daily Attendance and October is the big month for counting it.

If Madison Central wants to fix it, they need to expel these idiots that are causing the problems. If they don't, parents will continue to keep their kids at home and hurt funding.

Administration has got to get in front of this

MC was just fine (and still would be) if not for the fact that Flora kids started getting bused into Madison the city to attend school. Never understood why residents of the city of Madison, that pay more to live in city limits as opposed to living in the county, should have Flora kids in their schools. Flora is in the county, put them in county schools.

Strange shot at the principal there, Kingfish.

After a long paragraph about harsh consequences for this type of bad behavior, Burchfield asks kids and parents not to spread misinformation on social media. Although I'm sure he'd prefer students didn't post fight videos from school, I don't think the video was the "misinformation" Burchfield is speaking of.

Burchfield is one of the good guys.

"@10:33 appears completely oblivious to the irony that their screeds are the most unhinged ramblings of a lunatic on this blog."

Agreed.

There are fights and there are fights that are broadcast on social media. There is a difference. I remember fights when I went to a "good" school many years ago. Most of the time the parents never had a clue. Now, everybody sees the broadcast and says it's a disaster. Cameras, cameras, everywhere. We're still learning how to handle it the hard way.

Vouchers will ruin every good school in the state.

Bring back Mike Kent, Coach Justice, and Coach Taylor. They wouldn't put up with the crap.

Anonymous said...

I attended one of those evil private "Council Schools" during the 1970's.

Even back then,"disputes" were common. However, most fights happened after school hours and off campus.(no guns or knives were even given a thought).

But that was a long time ago ... in a galaxy far far away.

7:30 P.M. is absolutely right! If you and your kids experienced Kent, Justice and Taylor, you know they would not put up with this crap.

Who is Teague Wakefield?

Anonymous said...

If not for social media ol' Teague would have covered this up. "Nothing to see here; move along." The letter is nothing but CYA/PR.

Anonymous said...

Parents where are you?
WHy are your kids doing this?
Was it worth it?

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately, public schools are, well, public. MC can’t expel a kid for no reason like a private school can. That said, once something happens, they have a reason to be expelled and sent to the alternative school. These kids were all expelled. And for those that actually care, the kids were all from Flora, not Madison.

Anonymous said...

1. Be glad they physically fought and didn't bring weapons.
2. Yes, it can happen at private schools, but they can also kick them out, which public schools can not! Free & appropriate education for all.

While the fights are happening, Madison superintendent is down at the Trademart running Mistletoe Marketplace. Way to use those taxpayer dollars that cover your salary! Your teachers are on the job so you are good!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
