Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding is weekly press conference. It is streamed below.
Notes from the press conference.
* Mayor did not say if he would appeal the "veto" ruling. He simply said the clock is still running on making such a decision.
* There have been "challenges" in transitioning vendors. He said a "historic heat wave" caused workers to fall out. He claimed another garbage collection company suffered the same problems in surrounding communities.
* Mississippi Link reporter said in a question the Mayor had a "wonderful strategic plan." Not debating the plan itself, just found it amusing a reporter says that in a question.
* "City of Jackson has not had a problem of producing wealth, it's had a problem of keeping wealth." He said the wealth "leaves by five." Um, ok. Mayor, have you checked the commuter traffic compared to ten or even five years ago? Hint: You don't have to wait as long at stoplights on the I-55 exits in the morning.

Must’ve been a quickie. I tried to catch it at 1:58, to no avail.
Historic heat wave. Damn. Shut down the garbage collection and the water.
Guess I should've stayed home in the A/C instead of working out in the heat that week. Apparently all I have to do is call my clients and tell them I didn't get around to doing my job.
Damn, Baby Chowke missed a golden opportunity by not blaming the Jackson gun show a week ago.
Historic Ice Storm. Now Historic Heat wave. What next Historic Volcano eruption?
I never heard of the “Mississippi link”. Went to their website and there’s a photo of the Obamas grinning at the top along with a heavily photoshopped photo of what they think downtown Jackson looks like. LOL.
Add “historic heat wave” to the list of excuses.
1. Suburbs/white flight
2. Surrounding police forces chasing criminals back to Jackson
3. Gov Reeves
4. State government
5. Trump
6. federal govt
7. gun shows
8. previous mayors
9. administrative error
10. climate change
11. Perception of crime
12. Institutionalized racism
13. Environmental racism
14. Heat wave
Lil Choke wants to trap wealth producers in Jackson "after 5", in other words, make them reside and pay more taxes in Jackson? If he doesn't fix infrastructure and crime and education, even more of the remaining doctors, lawyers, accountants and other high earners will invest in Ridgeland and Madison not just for their homes but also their practices. Most of the professionals I do business with left Jackson long ago.
We had a few days of 97-98 degrees JUST AS WE DO SEVERAL TIMES EVERY SUMMER.
Nothing historic about it.
If there were indeed heatstrokes, that is on the employer. There is a simple prevention for heatstrokes. Drink water and plenty of it. Pedialyte helps too as a preventative.
you have to understand the mayor is a big climate change guy. So anything he can pin on climate change he will. Mississippi has been hot my whole life. What is happening is the weather service is making such a big deal with all of these heat advisories and warnings. When I was coming up in Mississippi it was just as hot or hotter.
So many socialistic based remarks interspersed-

You forgot Historic winter storm/Historic Ice storm
Lumumba needs to purchase some new sport coats because the ones he is wearing lately barely fit buttoned over that rapidly expanding paunch.
Are we going to start naming heatwaves like the weather service does with hurricanes and winter storms??
How can this clown Marxist Mair promote "100 Million Black Businesses " by stating "when the population is 85% black that's what needs to happen yada yada" when if the Mayors of Ridgeland, Clinton, Pearl, Flowood and Brandon supported some outfit based simply on the majority of the race of it's residents, they wouldn't get called out as "Racists"? Would someone like to explain that to me? It's even evident in the garbage contract. He hired the outfit that had the "best bid" but bottom line they were the best bid from a black owned company, right. Ever'thing this clown does is based on race. And nobody calls him out on it. How do he get away with that?!
From what I have read the earth has gone through five Ice ages. We are coming out of the last one. Of course, the temps will be going up. The temps went down when the ice was hanging around. Who knows how many more cycles the earth will go through? One thing is for sure, the cold part of the cycle will be cold and the hot part of the cycle will be hot.
Maybe man should adjust a little to the cycles. Maybe we should stop fighting Mother Nature and learn to live with her. I do doubt that mankind will come out on the winning team if they decide to fight. We could learn something from the alligator.
Is he going to tell the city's legal department to allow Richard's Disposal to take a default judgment on the $1.6 mil collection suit?
July 18, 2022 at 2:49 PM - "When I was coming up in Mississippi it was just as hot or hotter."
Remember when the Clarion Ledger had the misery index on the weather page?
The human body can tolerate more heat when it is not 100+ pounds overweight.
So, what's happening with Richards?
Is the city council just going to let hizzoner win?
4:01pm
The Court could force a payment or no payment at all, right? It's possible Richard's and Jackson will settle at $1M ($600,000 less than current demand) and agree Little Richard's goes back to the Big Sleazy, perhaps participates in new RFP.
Then we have a new RFP to include WM and fight the mayor all over again, but a limping, wounded mayor stripped of his irreversible dicta.
Hizzoner stated today that the contract that Richard's is operating under today is the best of all the proposals.
But - in the February 2022 meeting of the city council, when Richard's contract was presented again (well, the city Counsel stated that it was not the same contract being reconsidered becaused they had removed a line from the one considered a week earlier - semantics, but who's counting, except of course the council ordinances on reconsideration of a contract) the question was asked by Councilman Hartley - "Which proposal ranked the best on two times a week without carts?"
Lawyer Martin, who is supposed to be the Counsel for the city, including the city council, but was promoting the Mayor's proposal only, FINALLY, after much prodding by Hartley stated - WASTE MANAGEMENT'S PROPOSAL RANKED THE HIGHEST ON TWICE A WEEK WITHOUT CARTS.
Lying Lumumba and his entire staff constantly tries to avoid this fact in all the discussions of the garbage collection.
The ranking of the proposals has yet to be made public - but in watching the council meetings and listening to the questions, the advocacy by the Mayor and staff, and the twisting of answers by the lawyer - one can piece together the results of the "blind" evaluation.
And, BTW< in answer to another question, the group that rated the proposals consisted of:
Chief of Staff Omari (Lumumba appointee)
Chief Administrative officer Wright (Lumumba appointee)
Chief Financial Officer Malenbecka (Lumumba appointee)
Public Works Director Hill (Lumumba appointee)
Head of solid waste department ?? (staff)
Lets see now, Im sure that evaluation team had no biases going into its evaluation of the proposals or the desired end result. Especially when the Mayor is the one who appoints the evaluation team.
And even with that bias - Waste Management's proposal for twice a week without carts was the highest ranked. And today's contract? Twice a week without carts but with Richard's.
I have only one question.
As an outsider watching this cluster ... why in the world would
would Waste Management even consider doing business with Jackson,Mississippi again ?
No doubt the blow flies are happy at this point.
uhhh ummmmm uhhhh ohhhhh ahhhhh wellll ahhhhhh ohhhhh ummmmmm
Historic murder rate. Historic population decline. The list goes on.
RFPs get steered towards preferred vendors all the time, but usually a bit more competently.
Antar just threw down the gauntlet on WLBT. The Council needs to go nuclear on this wanna be dictator.
RIGHT - RIGHT ?????
Mayor's weekly pisser?
I am in awe of such just and righteous leadership in Jackson.
That boy ain't got the sense God gave a stinkbug.
This is the end times, garbage can’t get picked up, water is undrinkable, streets are sinkable, and Target may move to Madison.
I suggest we name hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, fires, farts, etc. after politicians. Can I start?
You know if the guy could get past savoring his own flatulence and stop wallowing in his marxist racist mudhole, some things could be improved.
Whoa, that "Mississippi Link" page is bizarre. WTF
Any garbage pickup provider that still wants to even apply for this job is suspect.
If you see this and think, man I wanna work for these honest, reliable, fine folks, you should be immediately disqualified.
@3:36 PM,
The NWS does name hurricanes but it's the goofy Weather Channel that names winter storms. The last thing the Weather Channel does is weather. It became a liberal agenda pushing platform several years ago.
Heatwaves are systemically racist.
"Whoa, that "Mississippi Link" page is bizarre. WTF"
Evidently, their commitment is in keeping the African American community ill-informed. The content is quite dated.
Shouldn't this debacle be changed from: Mayor's Weekly Presser
To: Mayor's Weekly P*sser
Chockwe please go away. Just leave! What an embarrassment to have this child in charge.
