Update: The crime scene is now a homicide.
A car was shot up on I-55 exit at Northside Drive.

Sad and terrifying. The north east Jackson area is already lost to crime and violence. Sadly those that waited or resisted selling are now either stuck in a crime infested city with no services or will sell at rock bottom pricing. This is the result of living in a democrat run city under a liberal anti police child mayor. Businesses are closing each month and moving to surrounding areas. It’s just not safe and never will be again.
Like a scene from Juarez.
another interpersonal conflict
Just another perception of a shooting in the People's Republik of Jackistan.
Passed by this one while heading home to Rankin from my favorite Jackson CBD store that sells Hemp "flowers" saturated in concentrated THC derived from hemp. the 2018 Hemp Farm bill was truly a blessing. Perfectly legal smokeable hemp products. Unfortunately, most towns in Rankin sell the hemp THC vapes and edibles but banned hemp "flowers" so I have to go buy it at a CBD store in Jackson.
Just some friendly interpersonal disagreements. Nothing to see, move along.
If it was random, God help us all.
Probably not random, and if you have enemies like that you need a much better escape vehicle.
Any succumbing involved? The panhandling folks are probably halfway to Memphis.
Just another day in Jackson. You know, the city people claim is safe. This might be normal behavior for some, but it’s not acceptable to civilized human beings.
To the people of the state of Mississippi, In order for the state to improve it has to start with the capital of our state. This is more than a Jackson problem. It affects the entire state. The state has to step in and step up. The statistics show it has to be done. Let the stats guide you.
Perception of corpse.
Lil Choke says one must look through 'layers' of socio economic disadvantage to deal with Jackson criminals. He is the seer? No, his sole sensory talent is circumlocutive oral flatulence, which fetid miasma itself floats in layers like the stench of rotting garbage.
East or West side of I-55 (North or South frontage road)?
Y’all leave Jackson alone.
If any of you Rankin hayseeds had ever been to DFW, Houston, or Memphis, yall would already know that this is a very common occurrence.
Yall all need to be investing in some high quality body armor.
One succumbed. One hit n hospitalized.
A comet is all that can fix Jackson at this point.
So much for that piece of cake from Beagle Bagel or a new jacket at BPO. I'll pass, cuz I don't want to pass just driving on the Interstate through Juarez. The Radical City.
looks like kinda out front of banner hall....nice.....i wouldnt stop in over there to take a piss it is so dangerous now
East side, southbound onramp to I-55 from Northside
5:12, you can't mention Jackson (nor Memphis) in the same breath as Dallas and Houston. There's actually reasons to live in Dallas metro and Houston metro. Memphis, not so sure.
Officer Sam Brown with the Jackson Police Department said the shooting happened in the parking lot of an Exxon near Northside Drive and Interstate 55 South. I believe that is the west (bad) side of I55.
As opposed to the "good" east side of Highland Village, except for the hordes of homeless zombies, carjackings, home invasions, and smash and grabs.
I believe the infrastructure of I55 and the cars and passengers would shield one from most of the gunfire from the bad side. Thus, HV retains its "good" status as a bastion of wealth, class, fashion, and cover and concealment.
Looks like an out of state tag, could be a rental!
Looks like this happened at Hanging Moss and Northside and they drove to where the car was found after. Still alarming, but the headline suggests the shooting was where the vehicle was found which appears not to be the case based on reporting elsewhere.
Per WLBT the actual shooting took place at the Exxon at hanging moss rd and northside.
"People with limited judgement, right."
Jackson is as safe and nice today as it will ever be…… think about it!
5:47pm, 5:52pm, 5:55pm, 6:24pm:
Perhaps wounded occupants en route to St.D's ER?
Why do people that can afford to move from there live there? I know a number of them that do, but it defies logic.
Chowke will blame this perceived shooting on last weekend's Jackson gun show and the heat, right? After all, people go to gunshows to buy "heat," right?
"Per WLBT the actual shooting took place at the Exxon at hanging moss
rd and northside".
Well 6:24, the original photo is clearly along I-55.
I'm sure the WLBT reporters were naturally confused.
I really can't get upset with the new little Broadcast journalists at any station.
They all seem to get out of Jackson after their original
contract expires.
Looks like the District needs to be renamed The Alamo, cause it’s the only safe place for now.
NE Jackistan, same as west and east Jackistan.
7:35
Surely you are kidding. The district is in JXN. No area is safe.
Hope they were boiling their water.
5:12
Yep same thing in common.....Dim-O-Krat mayors...
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Number up to 78 now. More than all of last year.
Notice to the people that managed to move to Madison County.
DO NOT go south of the Renaissance mall.
How long before everything on I55 north closes?
The trash laying on the roads down there has already told the story.
@7:15 I wish I knew why they stay.
I would be out in a heartbeat if I could afford it. If I sold my house, I couldn't afford one half the size in Brandon or Flowood. Yet we pay a lot more in taxes to live in this hell hole.
People need to get out of they can.
"Looks like the District needs to be renamed The Alamo, cause it’s the only safe place for now." And we all know how that one turned out.
@4:24
The families that live in Fondren some Belhaven but certainly NE Jackson are loaded with family money. They have private security or gates also several kids in private schools with a beach house and condo in Oxford. Several of them are builders in Madison co or developers.
I live in Jackson. I have never witnessed a crime nor even felt threatened. Yes, there is crime, and poverty. But those exist in every city.
9:49 PM
WLBT is slacking. They're only reporting 73.
When kids are not raised in a family environment and are basically turned to the streets when they are big enough to walk you end up when uncivilized thugs. The uncivilized thugs then become nothing but a bunch of lawless thugs.
I would say to the decent people out there you need to lock and load and stay clear of the jungle.
Attn 8:37 AM it is pretty obvious you are trying to sell your house. Where is it, and how much are you asking?
78 = 144 for 2022, but that's only a perception, right?
Like @8:37am stated, I am also a Jackson resident, and I have never, nor has anyone I know, been the victim of a violent crime. People on this site tend to blow-up the threat of crime in Jackson. Certainly petty theft, etc., occurs but violent crime is largely contained in the poorer communities. Every so often there may be some spillover but as long as you're wealthy enough to live in the nice areas, DEFINITELY NOT BELHAVEN, then you are likely to be fine. Unfortunately Belhaven finds itself far too close to the crime riddled areas. Hopefully the new gentrification going on over there will be able to eventually price out undesirable elements like it did in Fondren; however, I still think it will remain far too easily accessible to crime as long as downtown Jackson remains in shambles.
@8:37am
"I have never witnessed a crime (in Jackson)"
What helps: Staying out of downtown, out of West and Southwest Jackson, out of Walmart (on County Line, in Ridgeland); avoiding crowds and clubs; getting home before dark; keeping fit and walking fast in athletic shoes with head down, fists made.
9:18
So, how many people have been murdered within 3 blocks of JA? On Winchester South of JA, in the apartments North of JA, in houses West of JA and plenty of gunfire East of JA (I live South of the school and hear gunfire regularly).
After Eastover completes their gates, all that'll do is define to the crooks where the money is, as Willie Sutton said in 1933 when asked why he robs banks.
Get out NOW-while you can.
As long as you pace yourself not having to stop at traffic lights, or stop to gas up... race home quickly BEFORE dark.. and lock your gates, your chances are pretty good you can do it all over again tomorrow.
Ahhhh Jackson... the good life.
@9:35, I’ll bite. How many over what period of time? Also, west and east of JA could include California and Georgia. Please define.
Just read an article that New Orleans is on pace for 300 murders. Jackson is not far behind them.
I saw Baby Chok in Target in Flowood on Sunday night (7/17). No entourage. No security. Now, if I remember correctly, there's still a Target on I-55 in Jackson. One that's 1.5 miles closer to him than the one in Flowood. That clearly proves even HE knows it's not safe to go out / shopping in Jackson at night!
7:15 here are my reasons:
1. My neighborhood is safe. It's not just that we have a gate, it's location
2. My home is extremely well secured. I learn how to secure my house when living in a large city. The crime there was far worse and included two serial killers during my brief residence.
3. In any city you visit, you need to know safe areas and safe hours. I do.
4. I'm no longer in one of MS's frequent tornado paths as I was in Madison
5. I can pick up medicine and any needed supply in 15 minutes round trip (total)
6. I can get to a hospital
ER in 4 minutes
7. My children could get to their private schools faster and my husband's office is downtown.
8. I like my neighbors, they are all well educated professionals and they didn't all go to the same schools or colleges or universities nor are all natives of MS. I find I enjoy people who've had experiences, I haven't. There are only so many times you can listen to the same shared high school or college or university "funny" stories.
8. The architecture in the long established areas isn't " faux" or "noveau riche" tacky. And, the studs are a foot apart.
9. I'm old enough to have seen more than a few cities go through exactly these same problems. They survived and more than a few suburbanites get tired of the ever increasing traffic and parking problems and quick deterioration that come with the "developed" and trendy spec residential areas.
10. And, last but not least, I'm not a coward and I'm not going to be driven out or badgered out. I will fight the " good fight " to make any place I choose to live better.
My life has been extremely and continues to be very successful. I am perfectly able to take care of myself and make wise decisions without your opinion or advice.
And, by the way, should these propagandizing, lying, violent, wannabe totalitarians of either political extreme succeed and control all three branches of government, I'm prepared. What I WON'T DO is ENABLE either. I care too much for my mortal soul to enable the misery either would inflict by listening to both religious and secular false prophets!
I appreciate people trying to hang in there for the sake of Jackson.
But you have been warned. The writing is on the wall written in plain English. No crying.

NOLA -- Murders/yr:300 projected, Population:383,000, Murders Per 100,000=78
JXN -- Murders/yr:144 projected, Population:156,000, Murders Per 100,000=92
Jackson is leading the nation!
When will your novella be in print @1:42? Will you have a signing tour?
And that, 1:42, is what we call assumption of risk. You sound well-informed, so as long as you're OK with it.........
Daaang Karen! You hittin that wine early @ 1:42
1:42 snootily defends her Jackson homestead choice and demands we accept her for the savior she is, all while insulting my choices to live where I live.
I am happy you enjoy Jackson.
I don't, so I chose to live elsewhere.
You libs really aren't very accepting of others.
1:42's one of the most entertaining post ever on this blog. Sounds like a Saturday Nite Live piece.
#4,8 & 9 are the best!
"...the studs are a foot apart.." Did you peel back the walls to see.. or does that mean the entire JA team is over at the same time?
Too.dang.funny.
At 1:42 kids may be at JP instead of JA. If so I wonder if she is a member of the JP cocaine and champagne mom's social club. Does anyone on here know what I'm talking about? SURELY KF has heard of this group?
1:42 sounds like a stuck up Eastover resident. They think their S*** don't stink. I wonder how long Highland Village, and The District will last. I give it 10 more years tops until we see plywood on the windows at Char's.
Actually my neighbor in NE Jackson is one of the biggest home builders in Madison co. Many developers and home builders live in ne Jackson. You just have to put kids in private schools which those families in ne Jackson are able to do many doctors drive to sports medicine flowood madison etc and live in ne Jackson as well as some at runnels clinic. Listen stop bashing where people choose to live bc they can afford it.
Makes me get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside knowing that I have a VA appointment coming up.
I guess it's back to Rankin County to get boxes from the U-Haul store, curse you Madison County!
3:53 okay, okay... just don't stop at stoplights (they're smarter than us), or stop to gas up your car... and you can drive to JA, Prep, and Flowood Med clinics again tomorrow... and the next day... and the next day...
(Not bashing)
