What if scientists decided to create a virus that could kill all humanity? What if the scientific community had become so compromised by the woke cancel culture that no one would risk his/her job by challenging weak theories? What if the media and academia had become so politicized that the vast majority believed a fictional narrative and failed to investigate false claims? We would have a recipe for chaos.
Nicholas Wade, a science writer, editor, and author who has worked on the staff of Nature, Science, and the New York Times, addressed the question of the title of his article published May 5, 2021, in Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists: “The origin of COVID: Did people or nature open Pandora’s box at Wuhan?”
Until recently, the media has nearly unanimously “debunked” the theory that the virus was created in the Wuhan Institute of Virology and escaped in the fall of 2019. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo began an investigation into the origin of the virus in fall of 2020, but President Biden shut it down in March. Suddenly last week President Biden reversed course and asked the intelligence community to research the origin of Covid-19 and report findings to him within 90 days.
Go back to the beginning. Wade learned that a scientist named Shi Zheng-li aka “Bat Lady,” China’s leading expert on bat viruses, and Ralph S. Baric, an eminent coronavirus researcher at the University of North Carolina, received a grant “to create novel coronaviruses with the highest possible infectivity for human cells.” He also learned Shi’s work “was funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a part of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). And grant proposals that funded her work, which are a matter of public record, specify exactly what she planned to do with the money.” Grants were awarded in FY 2018 and 2019.
If the scientific community were aware of this work, and they should have been because the grants were public knowledge, why didn’t someone raise alarms? Did Shi and her team create the virus? China has closed all the records and continues to deny the virus originated in the Wuhan lab.
To muddy the water, two groups of scientists published strong denials the virus could have been made in the lab. One group of virologists wrote in the Lancet in February, 2020, “We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin.” The scientists “overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife.” Wade noted, “the signatories of the Lancet letter were behaving as poor scientists: They were assuring the public of facts they could not know for sure were true.”
Armed with this and other weak science, media and academics viciously attacked President Trump and other conservatives for speculating the virus might have come out of the Wuhan lab. The narrative of the LEFT was, ‘Trump is bad and lies about everything.’
Ironically, those who were attacking Trump were deceived and merely following the political science of their own LEFT narrative. What if scientists, media, academics and ideologues had not so sold out to the narrative, but had maintained a semblance of rational thought enough to consider the theory that the virus could have been engineered in the lab?
The LEFT narrative is a recipe for chaos.

I’d be curious how Daniel explains the unfounded claims made by his side. There’s more than I can list here, but Hydroxychloroquine and injecting bleach are a couple that jump out. Was Trump also blinded by “woke culture” like the scientists?

The article insinuates and makes fun, but with Trump's own words states that he in fact did not tell anyone to inject bleach.
Politifact (again, very liberal) rates Biden's claim that Trump said that as 'mostly false'.

The problem with Trump and his administration was that he speculated about everything and outright claimed things were true that were nothing more than his own baseless opinion. He was the wolf who cried sheep, then denied he cried sheep and blamed it on woke cancel culture. We all know that Trump was in a pissing match with China at the time and desperately wanted to blame them, so taking him at his word when everyone knew he had no proof was not a reasonable position.

Let's review Trump's term in office for competence:
A strong economic plan that accelerated GDP, resulting in record employment, especially for blacks and hispanics.
Increased respect for the US in regard to foreign policy that put American interests first.
Peace breaking out all across the Middle East (in spite of keeping the US promise to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel rather than continue to kick the can down the road by both Republicans and Democrats0>
Relative peace on our southern border with immigration under some sort of control.
Promises made and kept.
Quite a few judges appointed, although the jury is still out on most of them. I expect they'll be made of stronger stuff than anything Biden puts forward.
And every accomplishment was made in the face of united opposition from the Democrats, establishment GOP, the upper ranks of every intelligence agency (reckon we could do with just 16 of them instead of 17? anyone?), and the corporate media hacks.

Also, hydroxychloroquine does indeed work. It must be given soon after infection is identified or as a prophylactic, but it DOES Work! The mainstream media rejected it because Trump said that it did work. And the only medical studies that says that it doesn't work used it far too late after the virus had ravaged a body. If you treat it like birth control, it has a very high rate of efficacy.

You ignore the purpose of the news conference. It's called "context".
How would ANY of the Trump speculations be relevant if he wasn't talking about using them in human treatment?
It was pretty damn obvious that he'd brought those things up with those scientists before the news conference and the scientists were,by then, too intimidated to enlighten him or lacked the time to try . Placating him led him to believing that his delusions of genius gave him another " brag" opportunity. IF there were a possibility for any of those, it'd be realized too late to help. So yet again, he said something totally off the wall and his worshippers bought into any "after the fact" excuses available.
And, everyone who has had the responsibility for children knew and knows the dangers of toxic fumes and chemical burns and exposure. to UV lights.
It was just an appallingly stupid thing to speculate that way at all in a national press conference on TV. Children can hear news conferences while their parents listen. Children were at home.
And,9:40 Aside from the lack of Trump leadership in creating a coordinated effort to deal with CV19 when it was still containable, his failure to lead responsibility erased economic gains. He shot himself in the foot.
It was the Jared, naive diplomatic efforts that caused the current situation in Israel.
It was the GOP Senate that came up with everything else you give credit except Presidential directives. There was no input on how to "do" anything from Trump...not even a GOP platform. And, as usual, no tax reform and more giveaways to the richest of the rich.
Everyone hates taxes but 8 years of reducing taxes everywhere by the GOP and blocking sensible reforms so no money existed for infrastructure or cyber security has damaged us badly.
The wall was a fail ( few miles of replacement mainly, wasted money on a wall contract to a loyalist that is falling into the river from a ridiculous proposal as it was always a geographical impossibilty. And the previous immigration surge a draconian disaster. Again, no attention to detail and leaving a mess that yes, Biden exasperated with too soon with his own directive. Immigration is too good of an issue for the parties to get meaningful reform. Thanks to those who won't do anything but demand " my way or the highway" emotional demands.

If the GOP keeps this nonsense up, you might get control of Congress and you have control of the courts, but you'll have to do a coup to get control of the Presidency ever again. It's possible, but then so is another civil war.
