Can't be too careful, especially in a gun store as someone found out the hard way today at Van's.
Someone got a little careless with a twelve-gauge but thankfully it discharged into the ceiling.

WTF. That’s quite dangerous.
You can probably bet good money that Van Allen’s gonna have somebody’s ass over this.
Like KF said, thankfully it discharged into the ceiling and this is why everyone should adhere to the rules of gun safety:
Treat all firearms s if they are loaded;
Never point a firearm at anyone or anything you are not willing to destroy;
Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire;
Know your target and what is behind it.
There's prolly some left-over ceiling tile in the closet.
Either an employee or the customer violated the cardinal rule, "ALWAYS ASSURE THE WEAPON IS EMPTY".
And before someone calls this an "accidental discharge," no, it is a "negligent discharge." Firearms don't "accidentally" shoot by themselves.
Local?
Don't need no stinking training, 'I grew up around guns', should be the state motto!.
4:09. You obviously have never been inside Vans. Safety violations everywhere. Head on a swivel in there.
Just checking the pattern for turkey season
Hopefully whoever did that catches a felony and isn’t allowed to handle guns any longer.
4:09 - I've been in Van's numerous times and more often than not the place has so many customers/lookers around the gun counter anything could happen. Evidently it did this time.
What process failure lead to the shooter of the shotgun being able to get and load ammo into a shotgun inside the store? Did the shooter bring his or her own ammo in their pocket and insert it, or did the customer somehow obtain ammo while in the store?
10:05 Most likely the customer brought their own gun in either to try and trade it or to get it repaired and forgot to unload it. The gun was loaded the whole time.
"Either an employee or the customer violated the cardinal rule, 'ALWAYS ASSURE THE WEAPON IS EMPTY.'"
No, that is not a rule. The rule is all guns are always loaded and keep your finger off the trigger. Ever notice how many "unloaded" guns go bang?
The employee was probably one of the stupid young guys who once decided to do the Hollywood style revolver cylinder spin-and-slap before handing me a used .357
I cringed and told him I would never buy a gun if I saw someone do that to it. I still see him working in there and I avoid his dumb ass.
Was in the store when it happened just on the other Gun counter. I was told it was someone looking at a used gun that was still loaded! Definitely some people inside that are pretty careless with firearms!
Sorry.
Ooops.
Yeah Fish this is a special kind of stupid all right. This king of foolishness gives gun haters everywhere the ammunition they need to dismantle the second amendment. See, see!! People are to careless to own firearms. It’s odd usually gun stores require some sort of devise to hold firearms safe. Someone forgot to pull their head out of their ass and either loaded the weapon or brought it in that way. The moron should go to church and thank god he’s not looking at 10 to 15 for involuntary manslaughter or aggravated assault. Makes you wonder if the smartest of the guy ran down his moms leg!!!
"Just remember, when you pull the trigger, the bullets come out going very, very fast. So make sure to keep the weapon pointing away from you. Now that's about it. You are now armed... guards. God help us all."
I quit going there a long time ago because every time I went in there were several clerks behind the gun counter jabbering with one another, and none ever had time to wait on me. So I spent beaucoup bucks elsewhere. I dunno what he pays them for.
The women up front are usually very diligent about checking guns in and tagging them. I bet this doesn’t happen again.
This is the same yahoo we will read about later that "accidently shot himself while cleaning his gun"
On a positive note, this is a great example of why a shotgun is the best weapon to own for personal home protection.
Even a little .410 loaded with bird shot (when fired at a thug home invader) will interrupt said home invader's original plans.
Van doesn’t need to worry about the ceiling tiles in that drop in acoustical ceiling....he needs to worry about how he’s going to patch that expensive seamless metal roof panel to keep it from leaking and, most of the time it doesn’t just leak in that area. Water travels and it goes all over the place. Now, he will send an employee up on top with some Flex Seal...yep...that will do the trick....only thing is, when the metal building insulation does get saturated, and it will because the leak won’t be repaired correctly, he will have water leaking all over those guns and counters.

As many times as Barney accidentally fired his pistol we never heard a word about no leak in the building and nobody ever got hit, so there's that.
Don't you mean "assume the weapon is empty"?
