Sal & Mookies is moving to The District at Eastover.
The restaurant will vacate it's long-time Fondren home and move into the space formerly occupied by the defunct Sophomore Spanish Club.
Expect it to have significant upgrades from the current site.

On so many levels this move couldn't be funnier.
Meanwhile Niknar poors will feast on Little Cesars and gas station ice cream.
Restaurant Graveyard...2x failed location. Cultivation? dying. Good luck!
That is fascinating.
Jeff and Dan poured lots of money into SM in Fondren.
They must have alternative plans for that location.
Too much invested to let it go unless someone wanted the space more than they did.
New location will be really good for them.
Congrats!
this sucks on so many levels...they already sell pizza, beer and ice cream at the district. i'm not sure these people know what they are doing who run the place.
9:15's glass is almost empty. poor gal.
I’m happy to see a good restaurant with good food and affordable pricing move into the District. It should do well despite the online naysayers and trolls.
9:12 at least our shit wont get broken into and if it does, the law actually cares. NE Jackson poors can't move because they owe more than their house will bring on the market.
Bad move....,😬
I think this is a good move for both Sal / Mookies and the District. I will support as much as possible.

Please stay under your uninformed rock. You might want to take a ride down Lakeland drive sometime to see our choices.
I wish them the best, but in the words of Pretty Woman - "Big mistake, big, huge".
9:09...funny? Funny compared to what you have done with your highly successfully restaurants?
Real classy, 9:12 AM.
S&M is an established brand in the Jackson area, so I think it stands a better chance at succeeding in The District than the 2 that failed. And it will probably draw more diners, who don't like being on the fringe of the hood. Seems like a win-win, but I guess only time will tell.
@9:12 Ummmmm....what?
Prices go up. Business gets snootier. Business falls off. Business crashes. District maintains reputation os where restaurants go to die. Sad. I will come back later and tell everyone I said so.
The Sal and Mookies (puking in my mouth) concept is what someone from Brooklyn MS thinks the actual Brooklyn is. As in a 5 year old someone.
When your anchor restaurant is bad pizza and ice cream, you know you've finally made the Register.
In Duck Hill, maybe.
Good Lord.
Why is it a bad move, high rent?
Good abandons Fondren should be the headline.
Because not only are JJ readers experts at pandemic virus control and criminal justice, but also on restaurant management and strategy.
Robert St. John and Jeff Good should know better than to make any moves before asking advice on JJ.
Great Move. Put lots of tv's in there and post-covid it will be packed. This has a lot of potential if they do it right.
Thousands, THOUSANDS of comments were contributed here @KF's hyping downtown Jackson and the convention center. How'd that turn out?
Same hype from likely many of the same hypesters now propping up every move at 'The District'.
Jackson is LOST.
I think this is fantastic!! Sal and Mookie’s will do great there. We should root for our local restaurants and business owners to succeed — it has been a tough year, needless to say.
Should be an improvement. It's quicker to go to Pizza Shack in Madison than S&M in The Fondren. Only four red lights for me, for example and five minutes on the interstate. Same to Fortification. That's coming from NE Jackson. S&M requires..... 8-12 red lights, depending on the route. It will also have a take out window and improvements for curbside delivery.
definitely an improvement. sophomore spanish club sucked ass and so does fine and dandy
Jackson murders now 5. Projection @ rate YE 2021 = 130.
S&M current location will be a boon for someone who wishes to focus on delivery to UMMC.
Jeff and Dan made that location work by sheer will power and effort.
Great news for the District to have seasoned veterans at the helm of a new SM restaurant.
Wish them all the luck.
I hope they spend a little bit of time and money making it nice inside. Fondren and Madison interiors are awful.
and i agree with the above guy...They already have pizza, ice cream and beer at the district. Wish it was something different.
Hey 10:23...who the hell cares what overpriced slop they're eating in NYC. I'm thankful I don't have to live there. I don't care if snobs like you don't consider it authentic.
I agree Kingfish. This is a much better location if only for the faster access from interstate traffic. I dare say that they will also have better exposure because of the car count that passes that location every day versus what happened in Fondren.
Fondren is lost.
BTW, Jeff and Dan better watch their back as the Fine & Dandy owners may try to "cantina laredo" their restaurant concept from across the courtyard like SPC.
i just want an authentic Korean restaurant in the Metro. And yes, I want Bosintang.
Good. I look forward to trying it. Hope it succeeds.
@9:12
Jealous much? I bet you broke the ice cream machine at McDonald's
Great Opportunity .....more comfortable for many to go to....just as easy for those used to the other location, and the owners have all of their places in a stone's throw from home.....Excellent!
I live near "The District " and I am very happy with this new choice. I want The District and our local restaurants to succeed. What is the deal with the consistant negative comments about local businesses in Jackson, Madison, Rankin etc.? It is petty, foolish, and stupid.
I have no idea if this is a good idea or not. I'm guessing Jeff Good and his partner have spent a lot of time looking at the pros and cons. I'm also guessing that Jeff Good and his partner have a lot more experience in the restaurant business than folks on this blog. Only time will tell if it was the right move. Honestly, I personally am more likely to eat there if it is in the District versus its current location.
I like to see things succeed. I hope it does well. They have thought about this move a lot more than I have, so I won't critique it with my uneducated opinion. I'm dang good at what I do, but restaurants ain't it.
"The District"
Laughing every time I hear those two words.
Please explain if your talking about a failed development 1/4 of a mile north of St.D
or the Jackson public schools ?
" Good abandons Fondren should be the headline."
Gawd ain't that the truth !
I'm willing to bet his "Broad Street" location is not too far behind his New York Pizza & Ice Cream joint.
Remember the graveyard that preceded the old Captain D's in Fondren until Que Sera turned it into a mint? It can be done. I don't think I agree with JG on much, but I would bet on him to make this work.
The Fondren is doomed.
" Que Sera "
Before Jackson went down the toilet, that was a cool place.
Great food, great atmosphere, great location ( at the time) along with some of the best red beans/andouille served in a restaurant . . . I've had.
But that was a long time ago.
They just did a press release. Evidently a third grader typed it. Somebody needs a proofreader or spellcheck. Hopefully the pizza is better than their spelling.
The problem with the District, the parking for restaurants sucks.
" The Fondren is doomed."
I think you're right.
It ain't what it used to be.
Far from it.
When Ladd moved her lil' weekly restaurant/bar guide out of The Fondren a few years ago, most of her army stayed put.
Now Jeff Good has left.
Then we have the guy that owns Campbell’s Bakery that whines on the local news twice a week about the decline in his business.
Plus, as I'm one of those old "almost dead Boomers" . . . I loved Fondren back in the 60's and 70s.
But back then, it was only a unique part Jackson.
The last time I ventured into the parking lot outside of Brent's, there was some kind of freak-show walking around wearing only leather cowboy "chaps" .
His damn testicles were hanging out and flapping everywhere.
The "Village People" would not have worn such during a 70's concert in San Francisco.
Hopefully someone with common business sense can save what's left of Fondren.
The water line serving the current location has needed replacing for years.
Their water pressure is unpredictable. Had to close many times because of lack of water.
New line was installed on Eastover Drive. District has much better water system reliability.
I would bet that the water system influenced Jeff’s decision.
Don't see how Jackson's ruling political class won't view the attributed quotes in the WLBT story as a slap in the City's face.
I love 30 dollar pizza places!! Can't wait.
This is a win for NE Jxn and the District - great food, great management which the last 2 restaurants in this spot did not have. S&M can be a destination spot and the District fits that to a t. SO glad to see this. I'm a 60 year former Jacksonian and still love my city - this is a good move for all.
Wow 40+ comments? You Madisonites are #OBSESSED with every move by a successful business in Jackson that isn't to your bricked up ticky-tacky new money city. Not everyone is moving to Madison!
While I won’t eat there, this is a good move. If I did eat there, at least I wouldn’t need to dress like Andy Warhol to get the hostess to acknowledge me like I had to at Laredo
I just hope they can maintain the "cool, laid back" feel of the place. I wish them well.
3:08. To answer your question, it is because the vast majority of anonymous posters here are "little people", dissatisfied with their lot in life, and essentially closet losers. Rather than kicking their dog, they post negative and (what the hope is) hurtful comments. Makes them feel big and strong.
