More Enhancements Coming to Vaccine Program

Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

Today, Governor Tate Reeves made a statement in regards to the COVID-19 vaccine plan.

"Vaccines are rolling out across the US. That’s great news. The bad news: it’s not going nearly fast enough (at least here). I said that on Monday, and I said we were working on plans to eliminate roadblocks. Here are some of the problems and solutions discussed behind the scenes:

We had around 78K doses that were marked by the federal government for long term care facilities. State government was basically removed from that part of the process—direct delivery. Only around 2% had been given. That worried me.

I spent the week meeting with people in long term care/nursing homes. At every one of their facilities they had dates scheduled for vaccinations. They complimented the professionalism and believe 100% of first doses will be done by the end of the month. Makes me feel much better.

We’ve had around 30K doses out at hospitals that had not been reported administered. It’s hard to say whether that’s a delay in actually delivering the vaccine on their end, or a reporting error. I want more information and accountability there. That’s coming.

Drive-through clinics have been a huge point of success. It’s still early, but the ones we’ve stood up have worked. I’ve been talking with the team, and here’s what we’re doing with that lesson:

Doubling the number of those vaccine sites.

Double the number of days open.

Double the number of appointments at each site per day.

That should make our max possible number of appointments go from 8,000 to 30,000 over the coming days.

We’re also working on the customer service piece. Elderly Mississippians—most vulnerable to the virus—can’t rely on apps and social media. We’re increasing call center capacity as we speak, so you can speak with a real person and get accurate information.

When we have a problem in Mississippi, my goal is always the same: be honest about it. Try to fix it, not hide it. Keep you up to date.

If you want a vaccine, you should have quick, simple access. Government logistics should not stand in your way.

Shutdowns are done. This is the mission now. We can’t lose precious months to debate over who is more essential. We need to quickly get this out to everyone we can. Allow people to protect themselves. Then open this country back up—wide open! Get back to life without this fear!

You can make appointments by going to COVIDvaccine.umc.edu or by calling the COVID call center at 1-877-978-6453. These plans were just finalized, so give workers a bit of time to make them actionable. I wanted to get the information out right away!

God bless!"

Leadership. Well handled Governor.

Where there is a problem, figure out what the problem is and how to deal with it.

Where the problem is a roadblock created by an outside force, work to develop a detour around it and then move forward.

While many people just like to bitch and whine about the Governor, they never offer a solution to the problems he has to address. Its easy to complain, its tougher to get things done - especially when you don't have total control over the variables that exist.

Thank you Governor. I look forward to getting my shot as soon as my group (65+) hits the calendar.

Tater had to make it political, What a shame, Kingfish tried to help him with the COVID article. Let’s stop the use of political buzz words and actually try to work with the hand we have bee dealt, it worth a try, you might just come out a winner Too.

Excellent leadership by Tate.

Speaking with quite a few of my fellow employees today after being offered the vaccine. No one at all in our division wants to be vaccinated, go figure.

Let's open the country back up so VP Biden and Pres. Harris can take credit.

We’re currently 50th in vaccines administered per capita...spare me the excellent leadership by Tate nonsense. We’ve failed miserably.

"We had around 78K doses that were marked by the federal government for long term care facilities. State government was basically removed from that part of the process—direct delivery."

Does that mean the federal government drop-shipped these doses directly to nursing homes? And if so, why is it a problem to skip the bottle-neck of having state government warehouse the vaccine intended for nursing homes?

If, indeed, he is saying doses were sent directly (skipping state government) sounds as if that would speed up the process whereby it would not be necessary for some committee or group of agencies to meet for another week or two to decide on the logistics of delivery?

Unless I'm misunderstanding his code words, he's simply mad because the feds made a decision instead of him getting to make it. The fewer politicians involved, the better. Am I wrong?

To be clear this is still just health care workers/emt's and now persons over 75.

I really don't give two shits who gets credit, just open it up. This has gone far enough and the people who wanted to know what they can/will get away now know.

Appears that almost anyone can get a shot up in Canton by the lines I've seen at the Health Department.

@ 10:46 Of course they should get the credit, they are going to get it done. Your mad because they are going to be successful. Get a life!

10:06 I assume you’re a health care worker in contact with patients. That’s who’s supposed to be eligible now. Sounds like it will need to be mandatory if that many are hesitant to help protect those at the greatest risk.

11 deaths reported as of Jan 1 from the vaccinations. 6.2 million shots given (1st dose).

Not so fast on all the accolades for the Governor.

Frontline healthcare workers who received the vaccine this past week (Moderna) were not given an appointment for the required 28-day second dose. There is no way to get an appointment. Going to the web site (https://covidvaccine.umc.edu) leads to a series of questions and no appointment opportunity. Ever. Calling the number on the sheet gives you a twenty minute or more wait and then the person on the end says, "Well...we hope the system gets better and we can give you an appointment."

The system is far from working.

Interesting article this morning says Biden wants to push all ALL doses of the shots rather than hold some back for the second dose. That would leave a lot riding on the drug companies to come through with enough supply for the second round within the recommended time frame. Sounds like a recipe for a massive screw up

Tater has always talked big, but carried a little stick. We are once again bringing up the rear with our performance and his base is praising his empty words.

"11 deaths reported as of Jan 1 from the vaccinations. 6.2 million shots given (1st dose)." Mirrors the death rate of Covid.

"10:06 I assume you’re a health care worker in contact with patients." Sorry, we are not, we are another part of the so called essential group. Still have daily contact with many people. The bulk of that group I spoke of are AA and don't trust the system, like me.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
