Do they ever seize money anymore? I mean like the suitcases being trafficked back, not the $1000 seized from the local D-boy. Even the RCSO hardly reports when they seize money shipments. And I travel I-20 in Rankin often and they have someone with Texas plates pulled over in Pelahatchie every day.

Time for a breaking bad marathon

Great Job JPD!

Ahhh, the never ending, expensive War on Drugs...Good for JPD! Its a start!

However, I have always wondered how Rankin County LEO seems to always stop the bigger loads very consistently, yet LEO from Warren and Hinds county don't ever seem to get the Mules? Same with the other side of Rankin...those counties never seem to bust the big loads. While the guys at Rankin SO, Pearl PD, and Pelahatchie PD do a good job, it makes me wonder if they are following the law or just using the ol' "he touched the center line" excuse and the judges rubber stamping it....

Two questions:

1. What is meant by 'could be arrested'?

2. What is the meaning of the black 'X' on two of the packages?

@9:56
They are using license plate scanners and bales.org

Google "desert snow" and "black asphalt" if you don't mind being put on a list.

We relinquished our rights long ago for the "war on terror" and the "war on drugs" while you all were watching sportsball and super hero movies. Wow we are only left with the freedom to consume products and media.

@9:56

10:31 is correct. As someone who until recently worked off of I-20 in Rankin county, there are black SUVs with black logos/seals on them that camp out on the side of the road during random times of the day, usually around lunch and mid-late afternoon. It's obvious that they are NOT looking speeders because vehicles fly by at over 80 mph without being stopped. I believe the vehicles monitoring the road are another agency and local authorities assist.

@10:31 is exactly right. They can tell you how when, where and how often your license plate crosses state lines and other important places. The narcotics officers have access to this information via Homeland Security, ICE, etc. So most of the big busts are not just dumb luck. They are usually part of larger investigations. I suspect that the budget for Hinds and Warren are not sufficient to always run these types of larger investigations. Or maybe DEA does not ask for their assistance as often. Not really sure.. I only know this because I have a brother in Narcotics in Louisiana. It's wild and scary the things they can do now. This stuff is rarely on the news.

Where, when & how did this take place? Who was arrested? Where were they booked? What was the bond amount? JPD issues the least informative announcements I've ever seen. This is similar to the tweet in which JPD said a second suspect had been arrested in the I-55 drag race / spinout incident - no names, charges, etc. to verify anything. How do we really know the arrest occurred, given Chief Davis' & the mayor's history of lying?

I saw this on the local news last night. It was headlined as a "Major Drug Bust". Normally a bust indicates that criminals were involved and apprehended. Without arrests, this is just a photo and not a "MAJOR" anything.

I agree with those who question this kind of news release from any law enforcement agency. Who was arrested? Did the police buy the drugs? From the news release there is no way of knowing. The stuff may have been purposely abandoned as a decoy. It happens. I will withhold my congrats until I hear something meaningful.

I agree. I am convinced that my degree of "freedom" or "liberty" goes about as far as: "you want fries with that?" or "did you care to supersize that order?"

I've been living in Jackson for 13 years & this is the 1st drug bust in Hinds county I've ever heard about on the news.
Good Job. Let's see some more.

I’d have to weight them before paying X amount per pound, looks like at least one is a bit light.

There have been several large drug busts in Hinds County over the years.

JPD doesn't work the I-20 corridor as Rankin does.

9:56 Look up info on metro area drug task force. All town/county LE units that are members share in money confiscated regardless which one makes the stop, and jurisdiction is shared over the entire area covered. That is why you may see a Richland PD unit sitting at the Rankin/Scott line on I20. Probably no Hinds or Warren departments participate.

" While the guys at Rankin SO, Pearl PD, and Pelahatchie PD do a good job,"

I agree 100%.

Speaking of Pelahatchie, what's up over there ?
They've been kind of quite during the last few weeks.

Ok now track the case. How long until indictment? Trial? Plea?

'Seizure' and 'could be arrested'? Seizure could be anything from finding a backpack on the shoulder of I-220 to the cops stumbling onto it in a booth at IHOP when they're dining at 2 a.m.

'Could be arrested' no doubt means nobody was in possession.

Let's not even get into the probability that there were originally seven packages.

"Won't end up on the streets of Jackson"....might want to second guess that one.

5:15PM, the word is 'Quiet', not 'Quite'. And no, the two words are NOT "pronounced alike".

Of course there is money confiscated but you don't about hear that much anymore. The cash ends up in the bank lock box for retirement. How do you think farms in the country, European vacations, exotic travel is paid for after retirement? I don' blame them one bit for rat holing the cash when the opportunity presents itself. No, different than the politicians taking millions in kickbacks from funding all the ridiculous studies in countries that have been sucking the teat for years. They have to be agree to "donating" to the fund in order to receive the money.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
