Madison-Rankin District Attorney John Bramlett issued the following statement.
Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney John K. Bramlett, Jr., announced today that Satchel Tolbert, of Canton, was sentenced to thirty years for an armed carjacking and armed robbery of a Madison family.
On December 22, 2018, officers with the Madison Police Department responded to 489 North Old Canton Road in reference to an Armed Robbery and Armed Carjacking. The victims reported their 2018 Honda CRV was taken at gunpoint along with approximately forty dollars in cash. Shortly thereafter, the stolen vehicle was spotted by a patrol officer on Hoy Road. The officer tried to stop the stolen car. The suspect led officers on a high speed chase through the city of Madison and ultimately crashed near the Ingleside subdivision. Following the wreck, the driver fled into a nearby wooded area. Officers with the Madison Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Department quickly set up a perimeter and, with the assistance of a K9, were able to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect was identified as 24 year old Satchel Tolbert of Canton, MS. Tolbert was found to be in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest along with the victim’s cash. Tolbert had previously been convicted of Auto Theft in Hinds County in 2016. Tolbert pled guilty in Madison County Circuit Court to Armed Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Felony Evasion, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Judge Steve Ratcliff sentenced him to Thirty (30) years in prison with the last five years suspended. Tolbert will have to serve every day of the twenty five years
without the possibility of parole or early release.
District Attorney Bramlett stated, “This young man not only stole a family’s car and cash at gunpoint, but he also put countless lives at risk as he sped through streets crowded with people Christmas shopping. We are more than pleased that he will spend the next twenty five years in prison for what he has done. He had already been convicted for stealing a car in Hinds County. I am glad that Madison law enforcement officers made sure he won’t be stealing anything else for a long time.”

He seems nice.
They put ole Satchel in the bag! Nice work non Hinds County LEO!
his bow tie is a little crooked.
Check out his facebook page. The guy can barely write english
@1:02 p.m., yet he probably "earned" a high school diploma in our fine public education system.
If only he had a guaranteed basic income, he wouldn't have done this.
Yet another victim of institutional white supremacy. The white heir to the Clark Oil fortune got like 3 years and he actually put his wife in the hospital.
Shameful two tier justice.
And as for making fun of his grammar, most prisoners in the custody MDOC are legally retarded with an IQ below 70

"Thems the breaks"
About 20 years ago a Youth Court "referee" (judge) told me that statistics show a strong correlation between juvenile illiteracy and juvenile crime. Teach them to read when they are children, or lock them up after they turn 18. That seems to be the choice for many.
Can someone give the details of how this went down? I live close to where this occurred. It is a dark road. There are about three neighborhoods spawning off in either direction on North Old Canton Rd. Was he waiting in some bushes and jumped the family? Was he randomly walking down the road? It’s very much “out in the country” and there is really never any one randomly walking down the road here. I’ve lived right in here for years. Please give details. Is there now a problem in Madison of roaming illiterate young men carrying guns car jacking people? There isn’t even a light there. There is a four way stop close by but, again, never have I seen roaming young men in this area. This story is bizarre.
So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu
