Update (10/28/19): The press conference is postponed.
Well, this is interesting. Check out the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Jackson City Council.
All should be made clear tomorrow as the Mayor is holding a press conference at 2:30 at the Jackson Zoo to discuss the first phase of modernization and repairs.

While Nero fiddles, Rome burns.
What they need is Graham the Legend over at the city. He would fit in perfect at this circus.
So, the City is going to do the displaying. Guess the ZooOceawhoever deal that Chocke Jr kept bragging about and dragging out isn't going to materialize.
City managing the zoo sounds like it could turn into a real circus. Can't manage the sewer system, can't manage the libraries, but damned if they won't take on another loser with the zoo.
It may not be a bad move for the city to directly manage the zoo. They certainly can hire and make all the decisions instead of "subbing out" the management.
Now, whether, or not they can actually accomplish this task with an equal, or better outcome than another management entity remains to be seen.
I smell a fresh string of consultants in the zoo's future.
I do believe it. I do believe it's true.
Puleeze! This crap about this crap zoo in this crap area of this crap city is getting really old. Can't you find another subject on which to report? Asking for ten thousand people. Crap!
I see some FOBC consultants and at least one study in my crystal ball. How did that Dubai fact finding trip turn out?
(FOBC = Friends Of Baby Chok)
Why would the usda allow the failed city of Jackson to care for animals?
Great; who will the city sue for the water bill? Seriously, these animals deserve a better fate than to be owned and "displayed" by the clowns in Jackson government.
Is there a limit to the incompetency of this administration?
Gawd.
On the surface this is funny as shit.
But after laughing less than a minute, my thoughts go out to the poor animals .
My honest hope is that these creatures are removed from the Jackson City limits before daybreak.
Doesn't Antar represent the Crème de la Crème of social justice activist Harvard Law graduates?
Watching this dumpsterfire is just so satisfying.

5:14, good point about using the term "failed city."
Failed states are commonly described as those which are convulsed by internal violence and can no longer deliver positive political goods to their inhabitants. Their governments lose legitimacy, and the very nature of the particular nation-state itself becomes illegitimate in the eyes and in the hearts of a growing plurality of its citizens. Failed states can no longer perform basic functions such as education, security, or governance, usually due to fractious violence or extreme poverty. Within this power vacuum, people fall victim to competing factions and crime...Jackson???
So 'essplain me this...why does a failed city need a zoo?
Any city that has a world class government, streets, water system, water meters, courts, and low crime, should have no problem also running a world class zoo.
Unfortunately, this doesn't describe Jacktown.
PLEASE administer the "coup de grace" to any and everybody who supports this unmitigated disaster!!
It sure seems like all of these posts are by the same person.
If you don't live here, why are you consumed with bashing the place?
Very good points 7:53.
Jackson, Mississippi is the very last place for a Zoo in 2019.
But please don't insult the Communists.
At least under their model, EVERYBODY works . . . (in some capacity).
That concept is unfathomable to The Kush. The Fondren. And to The Belhaven.
7:53 I totally agree, why does Jackson need a zoo. And, I say is it necessary? It doesn’t do one damn thing for a city, that can’t afford one!
It ain’t rocket science!
I’m going bankrupt and want to buy horses, my kids need a safe school and I need a elephant, crime is high in my neighborhood and I want flamingos. Killings in my neighborhood every week and I need etc!
If you want to see animals in the wild go on a road trip thru some of Jackson’s............................. you get my drift!!!
That's Failed Unaccountable City Killed Everything, Democrack Unfit Politics.
Buffoon
a person who amuses others by tricks, jokes, odd gestures and postures, etc
Perhaps it would be a better solution if the animals at the zoo displayed the clowns at city hall.
Please accept my apology for being somewhat off-topic, but. . . and speaking of a failed city. . .
Sunday, October 27, 2019 circa 3:30 PM, I-55 at Northside Drive, northbound frontage road. What the h*ll was going on? A friend tells me he was sitting at the light about to make a left turn onto the northbound frontage road, in front of Maywood Mart, when two or three "muscle" cars came roaring through (apparently with mufflers disabled, a red Mustang was one) the intersection either from Meadowbrook or the Interstate and blasted through the traffic light. After the three cars zoomed through the intersection a Hinds County Deputy, or maybe a Jackson PD cruiser "sort of" (my friend cannot remember which. . . it happened really fast) blocked off the intersection by interposing his or her vehicle between the now stopped traffic and the speeding civilian vehicles. As the light changed and traffic was beginning to move, TWO MORE muscle cars came zooming through the same intersection, but this time they were momentarily preceded by a HCSO cruiser that, again, sort of blocked traffic. All vehicles, police and civilian, entered I-55 N at the on ramp located at this location. When my friend finally thought it was safe to move along his way, he looked up the Interstate and saw a number of blue flashing lights, apparently around the Briarwood Drive over pass.
Was this a funeral? I thought the authorities were supposed to stop traffic BEFORE the funeral procession? According to my friend, it looked almost as if the funeral procession, if that was what it was, had outrun their police escort. WTF?
Asking for a friend.
Raises an interesting question. If Zooceanarium's been in the process of obtaining the class-c license for the zoo, would the City be allowed to apply for a license, for the same facility, at the same time another entity has an application pending?
If yes, this could be a stalling technique -- so, when Z's application inevitably fails (because the place is falling apart) and USDA makes them have to wait, the City may be able to get "some" of the "repairs" finished in time for their application to be processed.
If no, this means one of two things: (a) Z never applied for a license or (b) they've pulled out of the deal and the City's stepping up.
Either way, I'll be praying for the staff -- they're getting boned by this mayor.
Is there anything preventing the city from getting a license and allowing Z to manage the zoo anyway?
Tastes like chicken!
@11:20 PM - Please try to keep up. It was part of the breast cancer awareness campaign.
Went through the #s Kingfish provided (Oct 12) and am guessing in its closed state the zoo is costing $60-75k monthly. Staff, utilities, animal care/food/supplies, debt service, minimal maintenance, insurance, misc, etc.. Think that is accurate KF?
But you can take the uptown bus if it's raining or it's cold, and the animals will love it if you do.
11:20, who the hell writes a post that long about something a friend supposedly told you about?
