A Clinton Alderwoman attempted to prevent Clinton from having a city attorney or any other legal representation at a recent Board of Aldermen meeting. City Attorney Chelsea Brannon unexpectedly resigned in September to take a similar position in Madison. Her sudden departure left Clinton scrambling to find a city attorney. The Board voted to hire William Purdie but not before some fireworks took place.
Mr. Purdie and several candidates met with no less than three committees of city officials, Aldermen, and Alderwomen. Two committees each approved a different candidate. The third committee said it was fine with either attorney. The Board discussed hiring a city attorney at a work session on October 13. Mayor Fisher recommended hiring Mr. Purdie at the October 17 Board meeting. Although the item was not on the agenda, Mayor Fisher brought it up under the "Mayor's Business" section.
Alderwoman Ricki Garret protested, arguing the Board was given no notice of the Mayor's selection of Mr. Purdie. She said the Board needed more time to consider the matter although of course, she was not necessarily opposed to hiring the attorney, just not at that night. She moved to table the motion to hire Mr. Purdie. Three other Board members agreed with her, killing the Mayor's efforts to hire a city attorney that night. However, Baby Slug overplayed her hand.
Mayor Fisher said he "prepared" for that outcome. He recommended (15:20) hiring two private attorneys at $200 per hour. One attorney would handle litigation issues while the other would handle issues such as easements and right's of way. Ms. Garret said "I don't see the need to rush into this type of contract." She complained the method of hiring a city attorney was "rushed" and didn't want to rush into approving the two contracts. She lobbied the Board to wait until it made a decision on hiring a city attorney. The Mayor pointed out the city has no legal representation and would have none if the contracts were not approved. Alderman Mike Cashion blasted Baby Slug for trying to leave the city without lawyers. The Board rejected the contracts.
However, an alderman who voted to table the hiring of Mr. Purdie changed his vote at the end of the meeting to approve reject the motion to table. Mr. Purdie was hired at the annual salary of Ms. Brannon, $105,000.

The board actually initially approved the contracts hiring the 2 outside attorneys. Then when the reversal was made to hire Purdie they rescinded those contracts.
Also not mentioned here is the 7th alderman entering the meeting about 10 minutes before it was over to sit in the empty seat next to mayor. Once that happened the vote to hire new attorney came back up and passed 4-3 instead of being denied 4-2. The alderman who is almost always against the mayor either changed his mind or knew what he was doing all along by voting against it in the first place as only someone who voted against it initially could bring it back up to reconsider.
baby slug hahahahahaha
Will is a sharp guy. He grew up in Clinton and will be an asset to the city.
The difference in conduct, even with great disagreement among members, of the Clinton Board and the Pelahatchie Board is night and day. This was a calm discussion with each speaking plainly and in turn so that the entire discussion was understand. Also so much more organized than the Jackson Council.
By the way, why have things been so quiet out of Pelahatchie lately?
10:03 AM - thanks, Will.
@10:15
Pelahatchie has been effectively shut down. The city no longer functions. The city formerly known as Pelahatchie is now called Bling and is run by a local warlord named Big Tiny and his gang.
10:15 here...As soon as I ask about Pelahatchie...BOOM! The mayor's husband was arrested. When will she start shouting about LEO's being out to "get" her husband?
"Although the item was not on the agenda, Mayor Fisher brought it up under the "Mayor's Business" section." The item was on the agenda under 9D: https://www.clintonms.org/application/files/7015/7122/5210/Agenda-2019-10-15.pdf
The group of people that collectively make up the City Council in the State of Mississippi are not very bright. Sure, there are exceptions and a few real stand outs. But for the most part we have some real idiots who couldn't run a lemonade stand on their own.
The only question is whether the new city attorney - whoever it is - have to be a former Baptist preacher? That seems to be the only qualification for holding a job with the city of Clinton.
Baby Slug is clueless.
What's the story behind the "Baby Slug" name of someone?
The City Council in the State of Mississippi.
Thanks lemonade stand owner.
Of course this won't get an answer from the ever-smug Kingfish; but, who the hell is 'Baby Slug' and why?
BABY SLUG TALKS LIKE SHE HAS HAD A STROKE. VERY SLOW
I don’t believe this reporting is accurate!!! You know better KF!!! Post this!
2:54 - "City Council's" in the State of Mississippi. Sorry you couldn't figure it out on your own employee of lemonade stand.
Poor Clinton!!
This is one of the consequences of letting women run for public office - another empty kitchen.
Let's just say under the previous Mayor, Clinton fell behind Madison, Pearl, Ridgeland, and Flowood as did Brandon. Mama Slug was content to get fat and happy off of Jackson refugees while doing little to grow the city as the other Mayors did. She left office (and the city broke). Baby Slug picks up the mantle of doing..... nothing. She and her little bloc have blocked TIF's, projects, and developments over the past year. This was just one more example. She had no problem leaving the city without an attorney.
Maybe we need Tony Greer to swoop in wearing a Mighty Mouse cape.
As a 20+ resident of Clinton, I am disgusted that my city falls so far behind surrounding cities in Economic Development. We need more than a roller coaster BRICK STREET and antique shops!
I don't understand. I thought Rosemary was the best thing since sliced bread. Or at least since Queen Mary.
8:04 - Have you driven about four miles west of town lately?
Aultman...Gunn disciple, look at the salary she draws in the name of "Education" Biggest joke in Clinton, but she does have a parkway named after her thanks to the folks at "Parkway Baptist Church", how IRONIC
