They need to learn to shoot the video horizontal. Audio sux as well. Can't you just give us the scoop and save us the trouble of listening to this drivel.

Crazy....but I do agree with him that change the direction of capitol street was dumb

Stokes saying Ridgewood Road (white folks toad) been paved all the way from Lakeland to County Line! Obviously he ain't been in NE Jxn in a long damn time. But says that won't pave roads in black Jackson.

Let's see: Terry Road, recently repaved a large segment and a new contract now underway to complete it.
Robinson Road - repaved under same contract as the section of Ridgewood.
McClure Road - repaved six miles to Billy Butts Park, also under same contract.
Gallitin Street - same contract, repaved.

Guess nothing counts to Councilman Stokes unless they are streets in what he considers as 'black Jackson'

Then he fails to understand (or recognize) the difference in a state highway and a city street as to who pays for it.

No wonder Jackson has gone to hell. Either him or his wife have been at the helm for past 30+ years.

258 I thought the changing direction of Capitol Street to one way back 4 decades ago was dumb. But what do either of us know about urban developmemt? Just as Stokes says, all that downtown area is turning into white housing - the King Edward, Standard Life, Walthall. (He failed to mention several others - what the hell is happening to poor old downtown Jackson?)

I did it! I did it!

Whatever you say, I'm guilty, just don't make me listen to those two.

Capitol Street one-way or two-way...I couldn't care less. What I do care about is those horribly small roundabouts that some big-headed engineer/planner thought would be cute. Roundabouts are wonderful when they are large enough for trucks and buses to maneuver through them, but these are barely large enough for bicycles.

The improvements have worked. Capitol Street traffic has a nice, even flow. The abolition of parallel parking is nice. The turnabouts are no big deal and keep traffic moving evenly.

Now as for the bagged meters. THAT is a problem.

Anonymous said...

2:59, the county paved McCluer and Robinson and also fixed the bridge on Henderson. The state and the county pave more roads in Jackson than Jackson ever thought about paving.

These are just two old racist, nothing more.

Anonymous said...

If this were broadcasted anywhere else, even published anywhere else, this would be considered a racial plot to take any and all power from the racial minority population.

Get WOKE white peoples!!!!

Anonymous said...

500, you are wrong. Hate to take up for the inept city leadership, but those roads were paved by a contract from the City of Jackson using 1% dollars

Anonymous said...

500 what roads has the state paved in Jackson?

Asking for a friend, of vourse.

Anonymous said...

Can someone translate for me?

"The improvements have worked. Capitol Street traffic has a nice, even flow. The abolition of parallel parking is nice. The turnabouts are no big deal and keep traffic moving evenly."

These improvements have not made a hill of beans difference. Compared to 1995, there is noticeably less traffic on Capitol now, the improvements have done nothing to increase commerce or traffic. I like the roundabouts and Capitol Street looks better, but they have had no effect on anything.

They need to install some type of bollards to stop people from parking in the median, the pavers are already discolored by oil stains

500, City of Jackson has spent slightly over $30 million in 1% dollars repaying streets in Jackson over past two years. County has spent $8 million inside city limits of Jackson, mostly from county bond issue.

State has resurfaced a large part of Highway 80 -still a state highway, unlike ME Drive - which probably had a cost of $2 to $3 million. Don't know where you get your information, but you need to check it's accuracy next time. Unless, of course, you have no source for the information you state as fact, which would put you on the same plane as a majority of JJ commentators.

Lakeland to State St. to Fortification 2 new struts and could probably a new front tire.

Anonymous said...

2:59, McClure doesn't run past Butts Park, nor has it been resurfaced recently.

Believe you meant to refer to McRaven, which was repaved a year ago, by the city.

These two rooty-toot-toots are the most comical individuals I’ve heard in a long time. They are crucifying poor, uneducated black folks. Their own people. How dumb can you be? How long has the Stokes kid been in politics? RISE!!! What radio station airs this non-sense? It is no wonder the poor black folks that don’t get out, think they can’t succeed. Their leaders aren’t leaders. They are whiny-ass grown men looking for a hand-out. The Rev. is bragging about running a night club and how well known he is on the NOATH IN. Rise!!! on Fohty-Nine in Richland. They using City of Jackson Tax Payers’ money to pave 49?

The Donald Trump of Jackson has spoken!

Anonymous said...

Let's stop giving this loon a platform. I know it's amusing and entertaining. However, him slamming NE Jackson and the burbs is a slight at the white population. Remember last year he was quoted saying fondren has become too white and gentrification is happening there. That's code for white people are improving areas. He's a sick individual. I'm not convinced he even believes what he says. Also, him slamming Virgi is garbage.

This was a total waste of my time trying to decipher their unintelligible speech. How dare the above poster say the Donald Trump of Jackson has spoken. These two goons couldn’t t even stay in the same room and carry on a conversation with Trump, much less understand where he is trying to take our country versus where THEIR president took us!

A waste of good oxygen is all these two are doing......a waste of good oxygen. Oh, and running a nightclub and being a preacher. Damn.

Ditto. We need to consign chunky to a media timeout.

@7:55

I agree that this guy is a "sick individual" but what you need to understand that while he dosen't necessarily SPEAK for the black population in general, he unfortunately echos the PRIVATE mindset/sentiment of many(if not the majority) of that "community". If you don't believe that you are being naive. Obama stirred this pot so relentlessly that I really don't know that race relations will ever heal in this country going forward.

10:51, since you are too lazy to do research for yourself, and like to play the role of asshole, try this on for suze:

Contract to APAC (2017-18) for paving neighborhood streets - $11.5 M

Contract to Superior (2017-18) for paving major roads - $5.2 M

TIGER project (2018-19) local share to date $8 M

Contract to D&B (2018-19) for major street repaying - $3.9 M

This list does not include approximately $6 million spent to replace bridges during this period, or funds spent for individual small projects.

Any other questions?

I live in the burbs and don't give a damn about what his sweaty fat azz says, I haven't been photographed by google in my wife beater on the front porch of my shotgun house...he is the reason oppression in his ward exists.

Jackson MS,the town I was born in, used to be a nice, beautiful southern city. It no longer is. This is a fine example of why.

Anonymous said...

What's going on with that crazy hollering?

Anonymous said...

I live near McCluer Road, and yes it was resurfaced within the last 2 years or so.

Not that you can tell now. There's so much yazoo clay heaving under that road that an extra 2 or 3 inches of asphalt overlay doesn't do jack. It's like a roller coaster, and every crack that forms quickly becomes a pot hole with all this rain.

They need to dig out the road AND the clay, then backfill with good dirt, then build the road from scratch on top of it... just like they had to do I-55 south of Jackson... at great expense, obviously.

That's the only way any paving effort will last more than a couple of years.

Anonymous said...

I remember 25-30 years ago riverside drive was being touted as a state of the art concept by digging out massive depths of clay from underneath surface. Look at it now. The central Mississippi area faces challenges with road infrastructure that other places don't have to worry about. We build roads cities government building in Iraq, norther. Iran, Somalia, Afghanistan and countless other places but in this country our infrastructure has not been maintained.

Pete Perry said...

@11:58, nice guess but wasn't me. I probably was a source of some of the data quoted, but if I had made the post I would have (proudly) claimed it; not done it anonymously.

As to other comments, McClute Road was reaped as part of the Operation Orange Cone project (Yarber term) which was the APACHE contract. McClure Road was done again using 1% dollars as part of the Superior contract.

Wait...white prostitutes are coming down to Jackson from Ridgeland and Madison and spreading AIDS?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
