Believe it or not, someone really doesn't get the "We Need More Cowbell" joke. Bloomberg opinion writer Noah Smith tweeted:
Like a tree at the end of the runway. Just in case you haven't seen the sketch, enjoy. Little observation: Pay attention to Chris Walken at 2:05 behind the glass. He is about to lose it.
Twitter superstar William Bibianni tried to explain the joke to the dumb yankee but apparently to no avail.

This is sad. It’s like explaining why Pamela Anderson (especially in 1993) is hot. That high-waist, v-cut, one-piece bathing suit could not be worn as well by anyone else. And that is why, good sir, the cowbell sketch is indeed hilarious!
The physicality and absurdity is why I think it’s funny.
And how many SNL fans know what "gas lighting" means?
BTW, does anyone really know what "cat fishing" really means?
Time for the Joe Louis line: "If they don't know, you can't tell them." In all my years, this is still the funniest sketch I've ever seen, even better than Robert Klein doing "I Can't Stop My Leg" on Carson.
I just now recognized Fallon's on drums. Above all, anywhere there's Ferrell, there is joy.
Noah Smith needs to attend a Mississippi State University football game. Maybe then he would understand the significance of the COWBELL!
I still listen for the cowbell when the song plays on the radio. It is a fantastic yet eerie song.
This skits still cracks me up. The critic needs more cowbell in his life.
Anybody who thinks Fallon and Ferrell are funny is nuts and needs serious help.
Mildly amusing at best, the funniest thing for me about the skit is the near break-up of Fallon. The cowbell is just as obnoxious and annoying in the song as it is at Moo U games.
