JPD issued the following statement.
Jackson Police are investigation a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a man, after the vehicle he occupied caught fire. It happened this afternoon in the 3200 block of West Capitol Street near Ellis Avenue.
Shortly after 1:30 pm, officers responded to the Eagle Gas. When they arrived, they found a black SUV that had collided with a gas pump and the vehicle was on fire with the driver still inside. Jackson Fire Department responded to assist but the driver displayed a handgun and fired several shots into the air which prevented firemen from approaching. The driver never pointed the weapon at anyone and never appeared to make any efforts to exit the vehicle. He subsequently died as a result of the fire.
The fire was extinguished but not before causing damage to other nearby vehicles that were near the pump. No other injuries were reported during this ordeal.

Finally, a car-jacker gets a life sentence in Jackson. Who knew?
And another one bites the dust ! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes !!!
A pine tree at 80 mph would have been less painful.
Hell yea, justice. Next. Mic Drop!!!!!
Burning up in a vehicle fire is a hell of a way to go. Not trying to be funny. I wonder why he refused to give up, choosing instead to burn up?
Darn, not a good way to go.
I knew this kids Father who I feel deeply sorry for. He was raised right, but got off into the streets, drugs, etc. I know his parents are torn between grief and relief as this child struggled with demons from the evil one for a long time now. No doubt he intended to commit suicide I'm just thankful he shot into the air instead of taking out firemen with him.
