The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued the following statement.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the New Year’s Enforcement Period on Monday, December 31 at 12:01 a.m. and will conclude Tuesday, January 1 at midnight. The ongoing MHP safety initiative “Making It Home for The Holidays” continues to place emphasis on traffic safety regarding motorists traveling throughout the holiday season. During the 2017 period, MHP investigated 119 vehicle crashes including 1 fatality on state, federal highways, and interstate systems. If plans include alcohol, please designate a sober driver before festivities start. No one should begin 2019 with being arrested, facing medical bills, legal fees, and perhaps losing their job. Responsible decisions ensure safe travel and allows everyone to enjoy time spent with family and friends.

Paging Sen. Burton...
Both Uber and Lyft are operating in the metro area. I keep getting notifications of holiday credit from Lyft. Install the app and they will probably put $10 in your account before NYE.
You have no excuses to drive drunk. If you do drink and drive you are the lowest scum, just right above pedophiles. I wish DUI was punished more severely. Anyone who has ever lost a family member to drunk drivers knows my rage at DUI.
It is unfortunate that we now have the addition of illegals who are notoriously uninsured, unlicensed, drunk drivers. It's bad enough we have so many drunk driving citizens.

As long as there are spineless judges like Robert Goza, drunks will continue to drive. Yes, I know Goza is gone, hopefully he was hit by a drunk driver on his way below.
@11:32 AM - I feel your pain, literally.
In many European countries, if you are convicted of DUI you lose your license....for life.
We lived in Europe for a few years, and when people are going out to drink, they take public transportation in both directions.
The liquor lobby greases lots of political palms.
@11:32, how did you come to your conclusion that illegals get more dui arrests? Is that based on any study or report or is that just your assumption based on your attitude of immigrants? I would actually tend to think that poor white trash are more notoriously uninsured, unlicensed, and drunk drivers, but if you have the numbers to prove otherwise I would be interest to see them.
1:19. List please.
@ 5:52 PM
You either have really terrible reading comprehension or you are disingenuous. 11:32 AM never used the word MORE or MORE COMMON at all.
You should know that federal law enforcement only categorizes White and White/Non-Hispanic in statistics. There is no record keeping for Hispanic or illegal immigrant arrests for DUI or any other crimes. They are recorded as white, and as such artificially raise the white crime rate.
Now, as a resident of Rankin County and as a subscriber to Rankin County News (www.rankincn.com) you can see very clearly in the Rankin County Court docket a high number of "Hispanic" names arrested for various crimes including DUI.
You can also listen to the daily excitement of Rankin County arrests and police chases here:

What happened to that website (disappeared) that showed names, photos and arrest records for hispanics in Madison County? It showed at least ten to fifteen every week but seems to have vanished in the past month.
I can't see any possible correlation between a pedophile and a drunk driver. But, I understand you're angry and don't often think coherently, so there's that.
