Marshall's Moving Memorial

The national media recognized Marshall Ramsey, today for a cartoon he drew of President George H. W. Bush after he passed away last night.  Mississippi's Cartoonist Laureate appeared on Fox and Friends this morning while CNN showed the cartoon.

Oddly enough, Mr. Ramsey almost missed the Fox invite:

I went to bed at three. Pip got me up at six because she has to go to outside. So I checked my email to find an invitation to be on Fox and Friends in a few minutes.

I know. I never saw it coming either.

I’m on at 6:40.

The Washington ____ reported on Mr. Ramsey's poignant cartoon today as well:

Marshall Ramsey was awakened by his wife late Friday night with the news: President George H.W. Bush had just died. Right away, Ramsey thought back to his idea.
When former first lady Barbara Bush died in April, Ramsey — the editorial cartoonist for the Mississippi Clarion Ledger — created a memorial illustration that went viral. Days later, when her husband of 73 years became ill, Ramsey began thinking about a companion cartoon to salute the former president.

“But he’s tough as nails and bounced back,” Ramsey tells The Washington Post’s Comic Riffs, “so I just filed the idea away.”

Until Friday night, when Ramsey learned the 41st president had died at age 94, according to Bush spokesman Jim McGrath.

“I drew it as quickly as I could and then posted” it on social media, Ramsey says of the tribute. “It seems like I’ve [drawn] so many obituary cartoons this year — 2018 has been cruel. But since the last one was so well-received by the Bush family and by parents who had lost children, I wanted to make sure this one was right.”

This one was indeed right, based on swift public embrace of the work, which readers called “beautiful” and “touching.”....

Ramsey said about his cartoon honoring George H.W. Bush: “I wanted to incorporate his service to our country because, love or hate him, he served our country in about every capacity.” Ramsey noted he had recently flown in a TBM Avenger, so the experience informed the artwork..... Rest of article.

Well done, Mr. Ramsey, well done.

Marshall is certainly a Point of Light for MS. And if we had Reagan and Bush running the country now, we'd be all about America instead of Democrats vs. Republicans.

A wonderful goodbye to a RINO from a fellow Democrat.

@4:06 What a bitter and twisted person you are. I doubt I know you and I know I didn’t know President Bush. And I don’t know Marshall. But I would bet you ain’t half the person that Marshall is or Bush was.

If GHWB was a RINO, what's the Litmus test for a Republican today.

Anybody that can call GHWB a RINO is an absolive idiot. Take your sorry ass back to your cave, more than likely located in the Free State of Jones.

What the hell is an absolive idiot?

Folks, let’s put the politics aside just for a moment. A father/grandfather/great grandfather dies, a family mourns, a wonderfully talented Mississippi artist pays moving tribute to this patriarch, who was also a veteran who served our country. Nothing else matters other than those facts.

Most Excellent, Mr. Ramsey. You are a treasure.

As for all you jack-wagons who seem to insist on turning a commentary on a thoughtful, touching honorary to the Bush family into a political this-or-that....why don't you, for once, just SHTF up and admire the sentiment.

Geez, what has happened to us....

Yeah, I know what opinions are like...everybody has one. Doesn't mean it has to be heard. Even mine. Sorry.

The readers of this blog will find ANYTHING to argue about, disagree over, or be rude about. I’m not sure why I even read this (other than the few chuckles I get). Anyway, did anyone hear Dave Ramsey (Marshal’s cousin) talk about him on the radio this week? He was very complimentary of Marshal.

I think Ben Garrison did it better, as usual. He invoked the image of the Yale occult Skull and Bones society that 41 and 43 were both members. Only God can judge if members of occult secret societies qualify for entry to his domain.

7:45 PM, it’s a word whose meaning is only known by the smartest of the smart elites

Hey, we in Jones County also think 4:06 is a jerk.

Anonymous said...

Even though he is a Democrat, Marshall does a good job.

I recall his Zig Ziglar tribute.

4:06 is the worst of us just complaining about the best of us because he is so miserable being a nobody that anybody would admire.

9:47: Ben Garrison is a loon. Good for nothing more than a good laugh at his intellectual vapidity.

@10:39
Nice attack taken right out of the Saul Alinsky playbook. Attack the messenger and ignore the message. Do you deny that the Bush presidents were members of the Skull and Bones society at Yale? They didn't deny it.

So, Ramsey got lucky and Kingfish chooses to bow and kiss his ass. Ramsey is no treasure and he sure as hell is no cartoonist laureate, which is a fictitious title pulled out of Kingfish's ah, hat.

He's a democrat loon peckerhead who occasionally draws an interesting and timely cartoon. The last one I remember was Fordice threatening to take Molpus to the woodshed.

Not 10:39, but what the hell does being a member of the Skull & Bones society at Yale have to do with the price of eggs?

As to the idiotic comment above, you could expand it to "only God can judge ____________". Fill in the blank. Do you happen to know of anything about the S&B society? Is it based on anything other than what you might have read on some internet posting by someone else that doesn't know a damn thing about it?

Try all the social fraternities on all college campuses - they all have their own "secret societies" although they don't have the same level of successful alumni as S&B. Do you think they are condemned as well? Or is it that just just can't stand a successful businessman who turnout to be a successful public servant as well. More importantly, he was a great "former" public servant, not trying to profit off his service when he went home, just tried to enjoy life and help others.

Trump will never join Bush.

Kingfish said...

Shouldn't you be complaining about blacks shopping in Madison County?

Interesting, from the publically available voter info Ramsey has been a pretty solid R voter.

Marshal Ramsey is a brilliant and towering talent of unrecognized and unrequited genius. In a single simply drawn cartoon he can elicit tremendous empathy, pain, joy, pride and a host of other emotions that almost always seem to bring us together regardless of where we place ourselves in the present political landscape. Today I thank God for former President Bush and the life of service he led and provided to this great Nation and to God for making a man like Marshal Ramsey who has brought such joy to not only Mississippians, not only the nation, but the entire world.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
