Seeing the ridiculous amount of JPS bond counsel payments, coupled with the idiots attempting to make moving the zoo a racial issue embarrasses me regarding the elected leaders of my city. It is like dealing with 9 year olds.

What is the status of the investigation into the dumbass Mayor of Pelahatchie's intentional act of splitting of an illegal invoice into two, smaller sums (below the $5,000 threshold) for the purpose of defrauding the Board of Aldermen into approving payment so she wouldn't get sued? Is the new state auditor investigating that?

What's this about Trump vs. The Koch Brothers? And now the Republican National Committee is siding with Trump? Isn't there a strong Koch presence in MS?

I didn't write this one, but it could be informative for you gin drinkers out there. Words to imbibe by.

From Broker's Gin:

A properly made Gin and Tonic is one of life’s great pleasures. It should be ice cold and bitter clean with a sharp bite to it. With just a few basic rules you can have a drink that approaches perfection:

Always use Broker’s Gin, kept in the freezer for extra coldness.

Never use tonic from a spray gun or a bottle that has been standing opened. Your tonic water should always be a freshly opened bottle. Open a large bottle only if you intend to use it all immediately. Do not be tempted by diet versions.

Take a tall glass with a heavy bottom (which makes the bubbles in the tonic last longer). If there’s time, frost the glass in the freezer beforehand.

Ice is crucial. At home you should use large chunks of ice made from filtered or bottled water and pat them dry with a tea towel. Put 2 or 3 chunks in the glass and add a generous measure of gin.

Pour in enough tonic to fill the glass. What you’re aiming for is just over double the amount of tonic to gin.

Add a freshly cut wedge of lemon, or if you wish for a slightly different flavour, lime.

Stir to release the juniper flavour. Bliss!

That's the difference... people wonder why Trump won the working class and republicans rarely do get votes from those type of voters. It's because he isn't in bed with pharma or the wall street guys. His support in Rasmussen poll and CNN poll shows 31% approval black voters for Trump. I'm one of those. It says Only 13% last yr... that's more than double... MAGA. Blacks for trump!!! I've I have done brick work for 20 years and only voted 2 times before.

Is anyone else disturbed by the new trend of approved posts being "deleted by a blog administrator"? I've noticed this at least three times recently. I'm wondering if KF is doing this or if he has granted admin rights to someone who is a loose cannon.

I accept that some posts don't pass the muster and never get published, but we're talking about posts that were approved, read, commented on, then deleted for some mysterious reason.

I don't like this, especially if it's some other person who is pulling this.

11:33 - we must be soul mates. One of my best friends and I devoted much of the summer of 1973 while undergrad students at the U. of Utah to perfecting the gin & tonic. I have only one suggestion to your recipe: use only lime, squeeze it directly on top of the stirred drink, and use the rind to wet the rim of the glass. OMG, what memories and the perfect remedy for this sweltering hot weather!

Sincere question for Democrats: Ok let's assume you really are for us "working class" folk.

What good is raising minimum wage if you are for tariff free international trade? Won't the only jobs available to us then be microwaving burgers for $12 bucks per hour? I wonder what that $12 or even $15 per hour be worth after the inflation sets in?

What good is raising taxes on Corporations if all they have to do is move to another country then export their crap the U.S.? Seems pretty easy to cut us American workers out. (See above)

I hear, "Well Americans don't want to do that job." To me that means the jobs don't pay enough. And if you keep open borders, how would it ever pay more? Why increase the supply or workers when we need demand for the labor to rise naturally?

Why would I vote with a bunch of white liberals, when they already pay a small fortune to avoid sending their kids to school with mine?

If I deserve affirmative action, it is because my ancestors were slaves here and some good natured folks want to try and help my children out. But if you give everyone a leg up except for white males, isn't that just discrimination?

On a different note - there are several bridges in Jackson that have been closed by the Governor's decree. The number of households/individuals impacted by this are much larger than the Flowood neighborhood that the Lt. Governor lives in. They've been closed for several months now, awaiting funds from MDOT. My thoughts would be to spend the 2 million allocated for that one Flowood neighborhood road on repairing bridges impacting thousands of Jackson residents and employees of Jackson companies. In my way of thinking, this should be a no brainer.

Sincere question for Democrats: Ok let's assume you really are for us "working class" folk.

First, let me commend you for asking the questions. However, I feel you are seriously programmed by the MSGOP and therefore are downright cynical of anything proposed by the Mississippi Democratic Party. But I'll try to appease you anyway

Question #1 - "What good is raising minimum wage if you are for tariff free international trade? Won't the only jobs available to us then be microwaving burgers for $12 bucks per hour? I wonder what that $12 or even $15 per hour be worth after the inflation sets in?"

Well here's the short and quick answer - inflation is already setting in and wages haven't moved in a positive direction, in a long time? Matter of fact wages have regressed; while wages have increased for CEO's and Executives at an astronomical rate. At least with Democrats they've proposed incentivizing companies to share profits with their employees on top of wages and pay increases, with tax breaks for doing so.

Question #2 - "What good is raising taxes on Corporations if all they have to do is move to another country then export their crap the U.S.? Seems pretty easy to cut us American workers out."

That's a good question. But we give American companies tax incentives and breaks to move out of the country in the first place. It's self defeating? In September of 2010 Obama pushed for the Democratic Caucus in the Senate to end tax deductions for companies that close their U.S. plants/offices and move overseas. At that time and currently, .U.S. tax laws both encourages offshoring and discourages the repatriation of profits. Basically, American citizens and corporations are supposed to pay U.S. taxes on their worldwide income. Through an overseas tax deferral law, however, a U.S. company does not pay the 35 percent corporation tax on foreign earnings until it repatriates these profits to the United States. The tax law gives U.S. corporations an added incentive not only to offshore employment but also to reinvest the earnings of offshored operations outside the United States. Republicans voted against repealing those tax breaks. So here we are today.

Plain ol' Catfish said...

@ August 3, 2018 at 1:29 PM - (continued - I can only put so much in one post)

Question #3 - "I hear, "Well Americans don't want to do that job." To me that means the jobs don't pay enough. And if you keep open borders, how would it ever pay more? Why increase the supply or workers when we need demand for the labor to rise naturally?"

Well ask yourself this question - would you go work in a chicken plant? Do you want to go pick apples, oranges, pineapples, tomatoes? Paper plant? Short order cook in a Chinese restaurant? No you wouldn't, even Ted Evans made that point at the Neshoba County Fair and Phil Bryant made a big deal about Ted's talking points. Americans want jobs with benefits and livable wages. There's nothing wrong with that, because those jobs built up the middle class. Democrats have pushed the following economic philosophy an economy that grows incomes for working people, creates good-paying jobs, and puts a middle-class life within reach for more Americans; spur more sustainable economic growth, which in turn will create good-paying jobs and raise wages; prioritizing long-term investment over short-term profit-seeking, rewarding the common interest over self-interest, and promotes innovation and entrepreneurship. The road to that is invest in training nurses, firefighters, and teachers to construction workers, factory workers, and small business owners. Investing in updating the electrical grid, updating and adding to the the Interstate Highway System, supporting groundbreaking research in medicine, science, and communications.

Question #4 - "Why would I vote with a bunch of white liberals, when they already pay a small fortune to avoid sending their kids to school with mine?"

I don't know where you get a bunch of white liberals in regards to the Mississippi Democratic Party, when a majority of its elected officials are black. But its safe to assume the white conservatives in the Mississippi GOP are sending their kids to the private schools to avoid yours as well. But its safe to say that the Dems are always fighting to fully fund PUBLIC EDUCATION, while the Republicans in Mississippi have fought to cut funds and find ways for your public dollars to pay for the aristocracy In Mississippi to foot the bill and send their kids to private schools by initiating school choice and vouchers.

Question #5 - "If I deserve affirmative action, it is because my ancestors were slaves here and some good natured folks want to try and help my children out. But if you give everyone a leg up except for white males, isn't that just discrimination?"

Even with affirmative action, white males are still doing extremely well economically in this country. The only difference, is that now they are competing against a wider pool of applicants in the workforce, whereas prior to the Civil Rights movement - segregation gave them a serious advantage.

I answered your questions to the best of my ability. I know I probably didn't sway you, because Mississippians are loyal to the MSGOP.

If the conservative political philosophy that started with the Democratic party and then rolled into the Republican party around Richard Nixon, if it truly worked then Mississippi would be a shinning example for the rest of the country on how to operate and run as a state. That is not the case. Mississippi is a case study in regards to failed conservative economic policy, but the citizens simply refuse to accept that policy's passed by the conservative majority in the state legislature are failing them.

It is a love affair with futility.

It's way past time to try something different for Mississippians that have constantly voted for the "conservative" platform, it is only our future at stake.

In the illustrious words of Donald J. Trump - "What do you have to lose"

First, you have to understand for capitalism and for free trade to be the ideal, you have to have a level playing field. Everyone has to play by the same rules just like in any fair competition.

Governments make the rules and not all governments are democratic republics or committed to fairness.

Also, you cannot have " free trade" if monopolies have the power to eliminate potential, smaller competitors or have, for example, slave labor.

The whole theory of global economics as goal of capitalism included the notion that wages would equalize in time so that would remove that " unfairness". What has happened should have been clear to Americans...our wages would stay the same or get lower and some jobs would be lost. That is because we once had the highest standards of living and strongest middle class so for others to come up, ours would have come down. And, it affected the revenues of governments as well.

Then to make it worse, the notion that unchecked greed and self-interest were great motivators that led to innovation and creativity and that all government restraint was communistic took hold. That defies history and economics. Wealth concentrated in the hands of either the few or the government is bad. Yes, greed and self-interest is a strong motivator in humans, but also in sociopaths who have no self-restraint. Whether it's through cultural mores, religion or government, unchecked greed and selfishness is the stuff of tyranny and slavery in societies.

For our bricklayer...the goal should be a stable economy and if, like before our last bad recession, it's built on bubbles created by bad economic policy, you won't have bricks to be laid...the construction/housing industry will take another down turn.

The extreme right and extreme left dictate our political dialogue these days but they are both , while some are no doubt well intentioned, shortsighted. Neither government or business can give you all you want without the loss of individual freedom. You will either be at the mercy of the oligarchs who will control government or a hierarchy of government officials. You don't want either and history has shown us, or should that neither work well over time.

Us workin folks that go to areas south of Madison, yep there is an area that has economic development south of y’all, need to look and see what is coming down the road. 1:29 here plain catfish I appreciate your informative answer. I think we want the same things mostly. I don’t fully understand these tax incentives I didn’t go to college but I have Read a lot and tried to educate myself as best I could. To me that is cat and mouse mess. I don’t want the corporations or rich folks getting any “tax help” I want them to paying higher wages by paying Americans. If there is open immigration I know the supply of labor is going up and demand for my services is going down. I want the money straight to my pocket- in my paycheck. I want it to be like the fifties- working man has a house, car, vacation, kids, mama doesn’t have to work, all with a retirement coming up. But this time I want my people to be able to fully participate. I don’t trust that your solutions are really in my interest because if so why are corporations always seeming to side with Democrats? Why do they fight tariffs so?

But it doesn’t take an education for me to know I wasn’t programmed by the ms gop lol I’m so black My friends call me purple. Well, I do owe you an apology for not considering you as an independent voter, I usually assume those that are cynical against the Mississippi Democratic Party are strict loyalist to the MSGOP.

But I hope you paid attention to post from the anonymous blogger @ August 4, 2018 at 9:06 AM. They made a lot of good points in that post as well.

I think the biggest misconceptions against the Mississippi Democratic Party or the National party, is that they only care about minorities and giving away welfare. That's just simple minded empty rhetoric. We want people working, earning a living, contributing to society, but at the same token we want our veterans to have great health benefits, education, solid retirements, housing options - they laid their lives on the line for this country, its the least we should do for them

No we don't want people to become incentivized on welfare, but they shouldn't have to go over hoops and crazy hurdles to get $200 a month in food stamps, when we are giving out corporate welfare to private companies that are only padding CEO salaries with the extra money coming in.

People say the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are both the same. That is not true. The policies are different, the platforms are different. The priorities in both parties are different.

Now are their snakes in the grass in both parties, yes! But there are good politicians too in both parties. Senator Brice Wiggins of Pascagoula, is a Republican, disagree with him on policy, but will talk to anyone that wants to listen. Is trully a good guy. But policy wise, I just can't go in his direction. It's not that Republican are evil, but his ideas on driving the economy and moving the state are just not sustainable in the long term in my opinion.

I hope and pray their comes a day when both parties are no longer racially homogenous, but truly back at the core of their identity. One (The Democrats) being progressive on where we should go economically as a country and the other (Republicans) being true economic conservatives, pumping the brakes when its time to ease up.

Good talking with you

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Note: Security provided by INS.
