The Mississippi Federation of College Republicans issued the following press release:
MISSISSIPPI FEDERATION OF COLLEGE REPUBLICANS ENDORSES KENNY GRIFFIS
JACKSON, MS - Young college Republicans around the state of Mississippi are lining up to throw their support behind candidates in the November general election.
The group endorsed Connie Cochran a twenty four year incumbent of the Hinds County Election Commission. They also announced their intent to support Court of Appeals Judge Kenny Griffis in his bid for the Supreme Court District 1, Place 3 seat encompassing twenty two counties across central Mississippi.
“We believe participating in this election is critical to the future of our nation, our success as future businesspeo- ple and the security of the families we hope to raise, potentially well into the next decade,” said Hunter Foster, Chairman of the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans. Foster is a senior at Mississippi College majoring in Political Science / Pre-Law and has been active in state races since he was a high school student in Brookhaven.
“Nothing is more important to our future than ensuring fair elections and the integrity of our high court.” Foster continued, “It is easy to complain about what is wrong in America. It is much better to take an active role in the course of our country, by volunteering, getting the word out and exercising the privilege to vote.”
The Mississippi Federation of College Republicans has over 3,500 members state-wide across 12 chapters throughout the state. They are active in registering students to vote and increasing political awareness.

Of course they do. Kitchens feeds off of the poor. Always has.
Of course this GOP rump is going to endorse those blessed candidates. But just like DonnerKay the MFCR can't move the needle in any single race.
My goodness. I had no idea who I was going to vote for, but now that the College Republicans are backing Griffis, he has my vote!
A vote for kitchens is a vote for the corrupt trial lawyers. There's a reason that every low down lawyer in the state is endorsing him. If you want more of the same political corruption, then go on and support Jim Kitchens.
Kenny Griffis is , without question, the most qualified candidate. He is not only a fine legal scholar who has practiced in the private sector as well as served in the judiciary, he is also a certified public account.
He also happens to be a good human being. I've known him since he first graduated law school. I've observed him in both professional and social settings.
He certainly has the knowledge and temperament to be on our Supreme Court.
He will uphold the law as he is no political hack.
Justice Kitchens is a fine man and an excellent judge. I am not impressed with an endorsement by a group of college students who don't yet have enough life experience to make an educated choice. Justice Kitchens has my vote.
Just curious 6:32 but how many trials has Griffis done? Any? Every prosecuted anyone? Ever defended a poor person? Ever?
If you cannot answer these questions then how is he MORE qualified than Kitchens?
Griffis is not smart at all. While we don't need him on the Court of Appeals (that court needs all the help it can get), we also don't need him on the Miss.S.Ct.

Wow, 8:29 and 10:10, y'all are in a dead heat for most condescending.
8:29, by lacking life experience do you mean they're not lawyers? True, but a couple of things. These kids at least studied candidates in a race that 90% of the folks pulling levers for either candidate didn't. You should applaud that. You won't because you don't want an electorate that's informed, you want the proles to shut up, sit down, and do what their betters tell them. And, like it or not, and there is no shortage of irony here, as long as they are old enough to tote a rifle in defense of this country, they get to vote.
And 10:10, do you feel better getting to type what you would love to actually say to all of us that aren't lawyers? I bet you do. That must have been bottled up for a while. Pretty sure you haven't actually said it to too many 'typical MS voters,' or you'd probably be in traction. But here's the thing. We well understand that we are a bunch of feckless rubes, drifting without the benevolent hand of our betters. But, then how are we even smart enough to vote? Are we wise when we vote for your candidate? Are we wise when we, as a jury, nod our heads and allow you to use the law as a tool to plunder our neighbors? Of course not. We're never wise. We're just something you manipulate to get your way. Our participation in your system validates it.
Eventually a parasite destroys the host. Thank goodness y'all keep ginning out lawyers.
Hey, 10:56, I'm just saying what a lot of lawyers know. The Court of Appeals is a mess and it will be an even bigger mess if the Lowndes County James Kitchens (not to be confused with the good Jim Kitchens) is elected to the Court of Appeals. He's running. He was Forrest Allgood's henchman. And he in no way deserves to be a judge of any kind.
Well 1:32 if you were half as smart as you think you are, you'd know James Kitchens from Lowndes County is running for the Supreme Court, not the Court of Appeals. No comment on his deserving any spot for either court, but if you're going to pontificate, you should have your facts straight first.
2:44 is right -- The James (Jim) Kitchens in Lowndes County is running for the open Supreme Court seat in the Northern District (currently held by Ann Lamar). As for the Kitchens/Griffis race, they are both good men. According his website, Kitchens was a private attorney handling a variety of cases and then became a district attorney where he prosecuted criminals. After that, he was a private attorney again for 25+ years "solving legal problems of all kinds for his fellow Mississippians." According to Judge Griffis's website, he "represented individuals, small businesses and Fortune 500 companies." Kitchens is in his first term on the bench. Griffis is in his third term on the Court of Appeal and has over 6 years left on his current term.
(Justice Jim Kitchens - the one on the SC now) is a consummate politician. Great story teller, can entertain a crowd with his down-home stories. Had a cute television commercial - and we all know that defines the best most qualified candidates, just check out the egomanic we currently have for a SOS. Even better, he pulled off the great campaign trick of fooling voters in Rankin County to believing that the 'Kitchens' on the ballot eight years ago (when he was first elected) was the same Kitchens that had served as Rankin's DA for several years.
Cute trick and it worked. Nice guy, fun to be around. But none of those qualities make him into being a fair-minded, reasonable justice. Probably the poster child for why the populace shouldn't be electing judges - the best candidates generally aren't the best judges.
7:22 - I can't tell if claiming Kitchens "fooled" the voters of Rankin County is a knock against Kitchens or the voters of Rankin County. By the way, you do know that Kitchens lost Rankin County, don't you?
Probably both.
Kitchens got 8000 more votes in Rankin than other 'similar candidates (comparing voting patterns across other counties). It was a good trick - fooled the voters and put him on the bench. His trial lawyer buddies got their monies worth out of those robocalls.
Jim Kitchens (central district) is a nice man and intelligent. But he has an agenda on the S. Ct.. Prosecutors and trial judges may get it wrong sometimes, but Kitchens dissents more than any other justice, votes to overturn more convictions, and generally pushes a criminal rights agenda. Kitchens greatest adversary this time is his own record. The trial judges and jurors didn't get it wrong 60% of the time.
Who cares who the MFCR or Hunter Foster endorse? Also, what happened to judicial races being non-partisan? Foster is a POS looking for relevance, and he will not find any! Jim Kitchens is the clear choice!
Judicial races are non-partisan. But, if you check your constitution (which, as a supporter of Kitchens you might not pay any attention to) that does not restrict partisan groups from speaking their peace. Remember that little thing called the first amendment?
There might not be anybody that cares - frankly, the problem is that most people don't pay nearly enough attention to voting in judicial races. But the fact that MFCR makes a statement might - just might - get a few more folks to pay attention. Anyway, its good to see college kids getting involved and Foster making efforts to get them involved.
